Strong Testimony About Our New Play-Caller, Jay Johnson
While the train has definitely come off the tracks, this Duck honk, homer doesnt feel that it has plunged off the cliff. We, as Duck fans have and are spoiled. Since Kenny W's pick six, in 1995, the Ducks have had just 2 losing seasons! And a few 7-6 seasons. Just like some of this year's players, many Duck fans cannot handle adversity. It appears that some on this Forum fall in that category, too. And that is okay. This season has been difficult to watch and very dissapointing. As fans we carry hearts, hopes, dreams and passion on our sleeves. At least we have this great Forum to vent on. And there are many reasons for that. Coaching and players come at the top of the list. BIG 10 scheduling doesn't help either. Some teams have easy paths (UCLA, Penn State and NW to this point) Others have difficult paths. Northwestern opponents have a combined record of 25-28. Take IU and South Dakota State out of that mix and NW has played opponents with a 12-25 record. They have played some soft teams, 4 with losing schedules. No wonder they have inflated rushing numbers. Just 1 ranked team on that schedule (P-4) However, Chip, made some exceptional play calls to keep NW in the IU game. Almost pulling off the upset. IU is not the full team juggernaut of last season. And the Duck D will have to play at their best. The Ducks have played a much more difficult schedule with a combined record 37-16. Take PSU out and that opponent record is 35-10, with 4 ranked teams on that schedule. Let that simmer for a bit.... If the Duck O can have a few sustained scoring drives, play field position, then the Duck D will handle Chips offense. If not, OBD's will lose a close game. This team has lost 3 games by a combined 21 points. I remember a number of games we lost by 21 points or more. 2-2 without their starting QB. And with 2 back up QB's that couldn't hit wide open receivers on short passes. The line blocked, the receivers got open, the play call was correct. The QB's did not execute. That is fixable with this talent level. Just have some perspective, realistic expections, and if you are not driving, drown your sorrows in the brew of your choice. I sure miss my Grandfather's moonshine wine, he brewed in his hidden cellar. Johnson and the Offense are playing with the house's money. They should be loose and just have fun. Be the spoiler and get better as a unit. Have faith Forum members. The worst think that can happen is OBD's lose the game. There really are worst things that can happen. Try, as others have posted, to take 30 years of losing or being mediocre........ DL and his staff will not let that happen! Go Ducks...

Strong Testimony About Our New Play-Caller, Jay Johnson
It appears that Coach Lanning has prioritized youth and recruiting chops, over experience and player development, when it comes to coaching hires. I’d prefer that Oregon recruits hungry 4 stars and develops and coaches them to their full potential. I’d rather have a really good college QB (or any other position) than a 5-star future NFL lottery draft pick. Watching Northwestern’s offense and execution this past week has been fun. If Oregon’s offense is not able to stay on the field this weekend, we are going to get destroyed. Good luck defending that offense for 30+ minutes in a game.

How Oregon Hit Rock Bottom Before the End of October
For a little context, for as much of a trainwreck the Illinois loss was, it was Lanning's first road loss in the Big10 in the nearly 2 1/2 years of being in it.

Strong Testimony About Our New Play-Caller, Jay Johnson
So all of a sudden, after decades of success as a program, nobody can coach and 4/5 star players cant play? So Lanning, all of a sudden, forgot what talent was? Or how to recognize talent? All of a sudden, after highly successful seasons, Lanning true talent as a coach "shines" through. This season is bazaar to say the least

Strong Testimony About Our New Play-Caller, Jay Johnson
Lanning locked himself in with a weak plan A for offensive coaching with an even weaker plan B. It just is what it is. The good news is that he seems genuinely humbled by it all and is growing a lot as a coach. He had a great interview with the Portland Sports Radio show acknowledging it himself. Next year expect this team to be back on track and returning to the top 10. For now just jump in the Delorean with Doc and Marty and buckle up as we head back to the 80's. Young Duck fans will get to experience for a year what we went through for decades of rooting hard for a struggling team. It was tough being a fan all the way up to when Kenny Wheaton finally scored. 0-0 meant you weren't behind yet and you still had a chance. Yes it looks awful this year but there's also something more compelling about going into each game hoping rather than expecting to win. Go Ducks!

I think we already know how talented Lanning is and whether he has the right stuff.

At least this guy has some experience. I'll be first to predict that the Ducks start getting it back together. With that many 4 and 5 stars, you almost have to try to mess up. The first order of the day is to figure who is going to play what positions on the O line. Then stop swapping it around every week. Find some plays that the other teams don't know about. Figure out what plays Raiola can run. Then stop being so obvious. Make the defense guess a little.

WEEK 9 B1G Games and Big Games and a Heads Up on the Playoff Committee's 1st Top-25 Reveal
We're on Peacock because FOX, CBS and NBC have no idea who we are. CBS reluctantly took OBD next week because Ohio State is always a draw. Until the wagons fell off, we and USC were the 12:30 and 4:30 TV options. The LA market is covered the rest of the season. We may get a slot against the Fuskies if we defeat Ohio State. Otherwise, we might as well be little brother because TV dropped us faster than our fan base did.

How Oregon Hit Rock Bottom Before the End of October
Rock Bottom? The D is still very good except for a few plays with blown assignments. The O line is up and down. Raiola is up and down. The RBs are kind of pedestrian without the great blocking, but they do have some great moments. This can get fixed in 2027 with a little help from the portal and going into the future - a better way to develop O linemen. Starting with getting them into shape. For now, stop letting the weak teams beat you.

OREGON vs. OHIO STATE
Thank you, Doctor J. You're living in primo golf country, and yes, it does just mean more, even with the inestimable Steve Spurrier no longer on the Gamecocks' sideline; a place where Augusta National member and USC(E) coach Lou Holtz also roamed. IMO, the person who made the biggest difference in B1G football was Urban Meyer, who headed North from Florida and brought the SEC take-no-prisoners recruiting attitude along with him. With a backup QB starting for Ohio State on Saturday night in LA, ESPN reached out to the 3rd-string QB, Cardale Jones, who won a title (sigh), and I quote: 'Marcus Mariota was an amazing college QB, better than me every day of the week. But every starting O-lineman and four of the backups who blocked for me played in the NFL. Along with 10 starters on the defense. The Bama players were shocked by what we brought South to match up against the No. 1 playoff seed. If I'd played better, the game wouldn't have been so close." Thank you for the reply, Doctor, and enjoy the game. If misery loves company, this season Oregon is shoulder-to-shoulder with A&M. I hope the Gamecocks keep on bouncing back. Norris plays as he has lately, and I like South Carolina's chances against Oklahoma in Norman on Saturday. GO DUCKS!

B-3 Variant Regarding Concussion Recovrry
Kind of off topic a bit, but it is relevant to football injuries, particularly concussions: Reportedly, Kyler Murray took the B-3 variant NR (Niagen) and was out for about a week. I posted about this vitamin and recovery from injuries a few years ago. AI: Search Assist A clinical study is investigating the effects of Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) on brain NAD+ levels in college football players, aiming to determine if it can help with concussion recovery. Participants will take either 750 mg of NR or a placebo for 84 days, with evaluations to measure changes in brain NAD+ levels and overall health. (It is approved as a supplement by the National Sports: Tru Niagen for Athletes & Sports Teams | NSF Certified NAD+ Support. Niagen also holds FDA GRAS status and is NSF Certified for Sport®—critical for athletes who need to trust what they put in their bodies. u2028u2028 In an industry where recent independent testing revealed only 13% of NR products meet their label claims, Tru Niagen provides third-party verified purity and potency. (I can personally report amazing benefits. This will be my only post about it, but Oregon should know.) He doesn't say why here, and the company cannot claim it. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/50023633/vikes-murray-says-recovered-pretty-quickly-week-1-concussion

OREGON vs. OHIO STATE
I’m in Moore County, NC about 10 miles outside of Pinehurst. We’re only 2.5 hours from Columbia. Since moving here ten years ago, we have been in search of great CFB atmospheres (within a close drive) that we could explore. We’ve tried our luck at watching ACC football but the CBB-centric NC team’s fans don’t like to stay past halftime. They’re very Beavis-like. So, we’ve adopted an East Coast team with a loyal fan base who fills their stadium no matter how bad their record is. It also helps that they have a feathered mascot (Cocky) and an awesome atmosphere (Who doesn’t love “Sandstorm”?). We typically hit a game or two per season to get our CFB fix. I cannot disagree with the SEC moniker “It just means more”. But, I also realize that they’re no different than Duck fans.

This disaster took years to put together. It kinda makes you wonder just how much better the offense could have been last year with different support pieces to this offensive staff.
