Dude was a 5* and the #1 ranked QB in his class through most of the recruiting process. He was committed to both UGA and tOSU before flipping to Neb This dude can play ball. Maybe/maybe not a better football player than Dante. People forget how talented DR actually is. Most have never seen him play. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he becomes the first QB off the board in his draft class.

Far from an expert regarding Mr Knight. My understanding is that he has already transferred huge amounts of wealth to his children. His intention with the rest is to give most away prior to his death so he can enjoy the effect and see it happen. Since he is 88 and the road is getting short it may be that he and his spouse are accelerating doing what gives them joy. God bless them both.

I am disappointed with the Duck's defense in the Lanning era. I was excited when Lanning was hired. I thought he would recruit and create a stifling defense as he had in Georgia. Hasn't happened yet. This year everyone thought the defense would dominate. Hasn't happened yet. I am not smart enough to know whether the players have been reading too many of their press clippings or is the DC's scheme a problem. I want the defense to raise havoc!

Well, 3 out of the last 4 games looked exactly the same. Listless execution...you know the drill. I believe putting a whuppin on USC and Ohio State (going through the same reputational assault) are the only remedies in the regular season. Then we have to win a Natty. It's time to tone down the marketing and kick some serious a$$. The hype worked for two decades. People are beginning to smell a rat 🐁 🐀 🐁 🐀.

I think much of the perceived animus about Oregon results from two places: Oregon is still the "new kid on the block". Most analysts graduated elsewhere and Oregon is all flash and uniforms, lite on substance. I.E. not tough like other true "blue bloods". So many analyst still want to believe the SEC is the true power in football. But the B1G has won the last several Natty's and so they are worried. They are jumping at the chance to use any excuse to put down a B1G program. Oregon gave them that opportunity against OSU. And lastly, the Ducks were over hyped in the preseason. We have lots of experience returning but the new coordinators along with a younger O-line make for growing pains early on. I hope that Mr. Fishduck is correct in our being the perceived underdog and overlooked. That could help us play harder. But if we keep winning, by the time we play tOSU in November, we will be known for who we truly are, the amazing DUCKS! Annihilate the Trojans!! 🦆

There are people who I am more than glad to see create and obtain serious money. I would absolutely put the Knight's on this list. This single donation doubles their total approximate donations to the University of Oregon -- now at about $2.2 Billion. This comes immediately on the heels from less than 2 weeks ago of their amazing $1.1 billion dollar donation to Providence Health System for Women's Health & Cardiac Services. And it's not like they waited until their Nike stock value was at a high. 2 years ago, when Nike stock was high, it looks like the Knight's net worth was about $40 billion dollars. Today, it's about $25 billion. So, and in the course of just the last couple weeks, they have committed to giving roughly nearly 10% of their current net worth away. And this is certainly not the only money they are giving away. Thank you, Phil & Penny Knight, for modeling how it should, and can be, done.

I never coached American Football, but put in what eventually added up to 35+ seasons of "futbol" (soccer) from kinder to high school age kids. The first game I ever coached was against a youth team (8-10 year old) that was essentially hand picked by one of the best HS coaches in Oregon. We lost in humiliating fashion without scoring a point. Our opponents put on an absolute clinic, scoring 17 unanswered points. Instead of quitting, my team used that as motivation to work harder and smarter than we could have expected. They ended up second in there league, and by a weird scheduling quirk, the last game of the season was against the same team. We won. The other team had arrived, cocksure and over confident. The outcome wasn't even close. It was the experience of seeing what a well trained, well motivated team could accomplish that motivated those young men to train hard and and develop the skills necessary to become a better team.

This topic is one that can go either way with you depending upon how you view it. And before I get started on that--please....everyone who is a member....DO post your opinions, and do start some topics. As I can attest, not all threads take off, but we need more posts begun by more than the half-dozen who do. And for those who began posting and/or reading since the season began....WELCOME BACK! I have not read or watched all the negative written or spoken about Oregon since the Cowboy loss, because what I saw made me wince and cringe enough. Our 2026 rep has taken a MAJOR hit, and now the objective is to not only correct it for this year, but regain the strong respect this program had prior to the loss. But doesn't it feel like it is nearly impossible to recover the prior good feelings, and respect for the 2026 Ducks? In fact it feels to me like--even if we win this weekend...in the backs of the minds of millions of CFB fans....Oregon is on the Clemson path--even if that is an unjustified take. In fact I would venture that for nearly EVERY game we play here on out--we will not be thought much of going in, and if we win? We don't get much out of it... But that can REALLY help us, don't you think? We are now the permanent UNDERDOG, the team continuously OVERLOOKED by every opponent and CFB fan. We could finish up 11-1 and still not be highly respected, or ranked going into the Playoffs. And do you think ANYONE would back us in the Playoffs in ANY game? You know...this COULD be a perfect scenario in the eyes of some; we have an experienced team with elite talent that was embarrassed, and is now playing at their best to "show" everyone, (and the NFL Scouts) of how that one game was a mess-up, but not a true indicator of this team. Seems like the ideal mental set-up for the team, as they are no longer full-of-themselves, but now working hard to prove their superiority? As you know, I am so amused with all the ancillary aspects of the football game, as concepts like this are highly entertaining to ponder and watch materialize. Could our current position be the perfect mental launching point to still make our run at a 'Natty? P.S. You will notice a big new space at the top of the front page, as I am making room for ads up there that will begin in the near future. Gotta get some revenue for all the expenses! P.S.S. One of the big changes is making most of the front page transparent, so you can see the background picture when you view the forum in desktop, laptop or pad. We are using a whole new color formatting system that gives you a base color, but allows you to see the picture underneath when you could not before. Now we do not have that in the threads because we tested it, and realized we needed to keep the white post boxes from being transparent to allow for easy reading. A lot of tech work!

The University of Oregon is getting a $1 billion donation from Phil and Penny Knight to create the Knight College of Engineering. The donation will fund the construction of a third building on the university’s Knight Campus, costs to hire faculty and staff and operational expenses for the new college in “perpetuity,” Robert Guldberg, vice president and Knight Campus executive director, told reporters Wednesday, Sept. 23. The gift, which he said is spread out over 10 years, is the largest “given to a comprehensive public university,” according to an early-morning press release from the university. There will not be any duplication of engineering programs offered at Oregon State, and you can find the official Oregon Press Release right here. This is a pretty stunning gift, that begins to move the destiny of the university behind Our Beloved Ducks in a direction none of us could have foreseen.

After OSU, Oregon needed every rep it could get. Plus there's the fact that Lanning generously offered run with 10 minute quarters in the second half... which was promptly rejected by PSU. But I suppose to be nice, Lanning could have pulled out some trick plays and punted on first or second down... you know, just to mix it up a bit. But I'm a big fan of Pop Warner football... for young kids.

For a backup QB, playing against an exceptionally weak and sub-par team, coming into the game in the second half when we were up by 49... I think Raiola performed well. But if the question is what does his performance in this game tell me about him, I'd have to say, very little. But his performance certainly was not discouraging. So, that's good.

USC's high-powered offense could cause issues for Oregon's defenseWeek 4 is here, and so is the Oregon Ducks' toughest defensive task yet. The Boise State Broncos presented a pro-style offense with an extensive running and play-action scheme. The Oklahoma State Cowboys operated out of the air-raid, slicing up the Ducks' defense through the air and on the ground. The USC Trojans do a little bit of both, combining pro-style running schemes with a wide-open, spread passing attack with the playmakers to produce one of the top offenses in college football through their first four games. Meanwhile, Oregon's defense has sputtered out of the gates, clearly not playing up to their potential leading to questions surrounding defensive coordinator Chris Hampton's ability to fill the departed Tosh Lupoi's shoes. That question remains as the Ducks head to LA to face the Trojans, and, while still early in the year, could lead to an extinguishment of questions, or much more speculation regarding the in-house hiring. One could argue it's only a matter of time before salaries for all but 1st rounders are higher at the college level.

PSU Coach just confirmed this was the case. 10 minute quarters offer was rejected by him. He wanted his team to play the full game. Judging by the coldest post game handshake I've ever seen (he never broke stride), I do think he still didn't like that last score.

I saw Raiola play in the game he was injured in. Before he was injured the offense moved the ball. After he was injured they couldn't move the ball. For those that remember the Herbert/Burmaeister duo with the same light switch affect when Herbert was out. That significantly increased my respect for him. He can run an offense.
