Fall Camp News - Is It Believable?
I am pretty sewerd on the Ducks. My frustration and anger is over the top for sure. IMO, we fans were lied to, that is unacceptable. It's hard for me to keep a high level of Fandom right now. Lanning doesn't realy seem to care. His seeming disdain and contempt for local media at the pressers is frustrating. What a massive failure. And its on him as the HC. We. Can blame assistants and players all day. But this is squarely a Lanning problem imo. I hate being lied to.

We're in the Top-5 for NIL spending, and yet, we seem to have only been able to pick up a lot of 2nd tier coaching staff. This seem very odd to me.

At 24, I'd rather see more G6 conference champs and or second or third place ACC or B12 teams than 8th or 9th place SEC or BIG teams. I think it's better for the entire country to feel involved rather than just being a big 2 with 40 teams.

Norvell, Wilcox and Lanning
Honestly, I could get behind both Norvell and Wilcox for the same reason. Sometimes being a good coordinator and being a good head coach are two completely different things. Let Norvell get back to focusing solely on offense and QBs, where he made his name, and let Wilcox get back to running a defense, which has always been his natural fit. Take away everything that comes with running an entire program and just let both guys do what they do best.

Norvell, Wilcox and Lanning
I'd like see us hire a whole slew of those off-season NFL position clinic coaches for all of the position coaches, but maybe they are unaffordable. I'd like to see us pick up Sagapoleute next year or the Oregon State QB, hopefully we let DR move on. I'd like to keep Hampton and recruit some hillbilly dogs for the linebackers to lock in the defensive culture. We need to pick up Kendal Briles or another similar up and coming OC who has a track record of transforming an offense by tailoring it to the players on their roster.

Norvell, Wilcox and Lanning
There is gonna be one more loss and it will really test the character of the team when their team goals are no longer achievable.
-
Norvell, Wilcox and Lanning
I think one more loss and Lanning will need to do something like this ASAP to keep a mass exodus from happening.

Sports media influencers are still crying rivers over this change that it dilutes the value of the regular season and too many teams that could never win. They fail to connect the dots that in the BCS era there were typically only 2-4 teams that could truly win it all by the end of the season, then with the 4 team playoff, there were typically only 3-6 teams that could win it all at the end of the season, and now we are at 12 with about 8-10 teams that could win it all at the end of the season (Remember Miami almost didn't make the playoffs and were one drive away from winning the Natty) At 24 teams I would expect that there will be 12-16 teams any given year capable of winning the Natty at the end of the season, which is far more entertaining. You finally are assured it isn't a beauty contest of finicky young men where blemishes are more highly valued than your successes. If you watch sports purely for the suspense, go watch baseball or soccer. Idon't like being scared every week about missing out on goals you feel your team deserves to achieve if they play one bad game. And certainly at 24 teams the risk of leaving out a team that would have won it all goes to almost zero And this will help contribute to getting rid of the long layoffs that affects teams unequally. And it will get rid of conference championships that make teams potentially play each other 3 times in the same season, risking injury for seemingly little benefit. It will also keep players from sitting out post season games, since they have something worth playing for. Lastly it will draw more eyeballs and interest to the sport with more meaningful post season games. Look at that list of positives! It's only backwards thinking that has taken us over 2 decades to get here, but it's finally here. Thank goodness.

Norvell, Wilcox and Lanning
Must be boring this morning so what the heck..Norvell as the OC and Assit. HC, Justin Wilcox as the DC. Jerry Neu as the QB Coach. While we are at offer millions to the OSU QB before Miami or Texas Tech does. Just spit balling! Go Ducks!

Fall Camp News - Is It Believable?
This may be the best topic of the year. As a fan, I really don't care what the narrative is for any given year whether it's "This is THE year!" or "Prepare to be the scrappy underdog this year.". I just want to be prepared for what's coming and embrace it whatever it is. Shocking upsets can do and will happen from time to time and "This is THE year!" can turn to "At least we're still in the top 25." at anytime on the schedule and I don't have a problem with that. This year feels more deceitful than upsets happen. We have two five star QBs being lead and instructed by a guy coaching QBs for the first time who played tight end in college. Unbelievable. Our all world tight end and his 4 star position mates are being coached by a guy who's never even been a position coach before. Ridiculous. They're all being lead by an OC who's OC experience is one year leading bottom dwelling Rutgers offense. Inexcusable. This is the offensive infrastructure that we were told was going to compete for a national title. This isn't even counting how hard the O line was over sold as ready to take over the starting positions. These internal promotions were a gigantic swing and a miss by Lanning and will most likely be corrected post season. Still this season should have been promoted as a learning curve year rather than 'This is it!". We all could have embraced for impact and adjusted our fandom accordingly.

Fall Camp News - Is It Believable?
Yeah. Agree. Then in the fall, the coaches were saying that they had 8 starting caliber players that were playing winning football. Right now, they maybe have 1.

With the CBS report that Brock Thomas is starting, I wonder if Akili Smith Jr. is now #2 QB?

The Oregon Effect: Opponents' Rankings After Playing Us
The Oregon effect is still alive and well in college football rankings: If you beat Oregon you must be really good, but if you lose to Oregon it's because Oregon wasn't that good. And yet at the same time, it's a bit of darned if you do, darned if you don't, if you win the ranking of the opponent drops and your schedule difficulty drops impacting your resume, and if you lose your schedule difficulty increases and your resume looks better. However, all that being said, this is the last year for rankings to REALLY matter. Ever. Next year with a 24 team playoff everyone that is halfway decent by the end of the season will be in the playoffs, and if you want to be the best you have to beat the best at that point, although if you're in the bottom half you'll have to do it in the Opponents' stadiums.

Brock Thomas Is Why I Love College Football
Don't want to go overboard on the comparison here, but I see a similarity between Brock Thomas and another Brock we'll all remember: Brock Purdy. Seems to me both guys lack the physical "tools" that lead high school and college QBs to be rated as top prospects--shorter than desired, not an exceptionally strong arm, not particularly fleet of foot. Yet, they somehow confound the "experts" and play winning football. What I suspect is the secret ingredient for both guys is the invisible skillset that resides between the ears. The game is too fast for some of the so-called five-star guys--some of whom have passed through the Ducks' program in recent years--but not for these two guys. (By the way, I think the kid who's now playing QB for the not-so-beloved Beavs is another one of those guys.) At this point, I'm just glad Brock Thomas decided to stick with his hometown Ducks as a backup with no guarantee of playing time with two five-star guys ahead of him on the depth chart.

Brock Thomas Is Why I Love College Football
Reporters asked Dan last year what he thought about Franklin and Gundy being fired, and his response was "We are all just a few games away from the same fate." He may have forgotten that in the off-season but I'd suspect he is very aware of it now, just like I'm sure he is aware that his approach to prioritizing recruiting chops and youthful ambition over experience and successful track record for his coaching staff has been a hubristic mistake. We'll all just have to see how things transpire over the rest of the season and off-season.

What Are Lanning's Options On Offense Moving Forward?
Can OBD improve on offensive enough to achieve a 9-3 season? Andrew Nemec's recent interpretation was interesting. He made very specific criticism of Mehringer: he has so many bright ideas that he establishes no "tendencies" that set up "sequential plays and possibly gives the OL too much to learn. That can be corrected without his dismissal. George Wrighster points out that good coaches make bad player evaluations. The evaluations underlying the OL decisions were undoubtedly wrong. That said, was the problem talent or development? If the latter, things can improve. George W. said that several of Mehringer's run plays vs. UCLA would have been long gains except for one missed or poorly executed assignment. The combination of Fox at LT and Gernorris at RT seemed to work better, at least according to my superficial observation. Oregon has a superb kicking game and the defense may be reaching the level we hoped. (Perich was much improved and impactful vs. UCLA.) If Brock can be an effective "game manager," that is, get the ball to Johnson, Hill and Dak Moore while avoiding turnovers, we may have enough to beat everyone on the schedule but the Buckeyes. Minus the TOs, OBD probably would have defeated UCLA. In addition, Brock's speed (10.8 in the 100 meters) possibly can be exploited with some play calls. For instance, the inside read option?
