I am not defending our coordinators (though I kinda will) but we don't have enough information on their ability at this time because there are so many other things going wrong. Sure there have been some bad play calls... but I would also argue that many of them would have worked if the execution was better. Right now I am questioning the promotions of Jack Smith (Tight Ends), Koa Ka'ai (quarterbacks) and Kamran Araghi (outside linebackers) more than the coordinators. Our tight ends have had little impact in the game and yes we were down Johnson last game but still. Moore is playing awful and our edge rushers don't feel like game breakers. I am questioning offensive line coaching at the moment for A'lique Terry because of just how bad these pieces are at becoming a whole but we've seen better in past years so I have some hope there. I need to see better play from the offensive line and better execution out of the players before I jump on the coordinators. I think they have growing to do and I think they need to do better jobs as well. But Dante Moore outright not seeing open receivers or missing a pass to open receivers isn't something wrong with a play call... it's a player and position coaching problem.

Agreed. Rarely happens unless the player's name is Dyer and the refs don't review the forearm down vs the knee.

What I am failing to see so far this season are consistent sequences of constraint plays. That is what opposing defenses are keying off of. Kenny Dillingham, so far, has done this better than any of the OC's Lanning has had. We are tipping our hand by the way the O-Line gets set just before the ball is snapped. Even Will Stein was able to disguise his looks at the LOS by running a constraint off of a run look and changing into play-action or designed passes to keep the opposing linebackers and secondary from getting an extra step on our skill players. I actually figured this would be the primary underlying thread from one OC to the next that Dan Lanning would set an expectation for. I have not seen this happen yet and until I do I believe play calling will continue to struggle against medium to elite defenses.

I am in no way saying that the refs cost us this game.... the Ducks would have had to do a whole lot more things right for that to be the case. But seriously... the B1G refs seem to hate us. If that was an Oregon defender holding it would have been flagged. As much as we all hated the old Pac-12 refs I think I like them better than these B1G ones.

(See Rule No. 29) Negative is FINE, but Venting is NOT... An OBD member chastised me recently in a post, writing that he thinks I "believe it is inappropriate to make negative comments." That is NOT what I've written, nor is it what our rules, as No. 31, 31a, and 31b have stated for years. If you had read what I have written over the last three days, and how I have not deleted any negative—then everyone would understand better what I was conveying. Negative is what we discuss here, and is a big part of what a forum is. I, as an owner/manager of several sites over the last 15 years have been through many down times such as this before. I do believe that to a degree—people have to let their frustrations out, which is what you see a lot of. I get that, as it is true for me as well. But there is always a small percentage that truly ENJOY being negative, and they not only share their bile, but they post new insults to the program, the coaches, etc. It is not an occasional summary of complaints, but a continuous barrage of negative as that is what brings them pleasure. That is how they are hard-wired, as they have to vent their issues upon all of us. There is a massive difference between stating your opinion on what went wrong Saturday, and engaging in threads about the reality of what we all saw...versus using us as a therapist couch, and venting your feelings upon us. We have not hit that yet, but some people are very close. After a certain point....we are not responsible for your mental health, as you need to vent your extreme negative with a licensed professional. But typical posts about the team both good and bad are normal and welcome. Don't start asking if it is OK to post negative; if I see an issue--you will hear from me, and again---some are close as their negative was ongoing, and seemed to be looking for new ways to put down the team or coaches. Normal stuff is fine, but tons of negative posts is where it crosses the line as extreme, and what I'm referring to. And often this small percentage of OBD members don’t post when things are good, but only when they have something to complain about. Not a “glass-half-full” kind of guy… I even have someone applying for membership again, when he left us before-he got disgusted with Oregon fans for not agreeing with his extreme negative takes. Clearly, he has been reading things here recently, but wants to rejoin now after we lose a game? Gee, I wonder what he wants to post about? 🤷‍♂️ Be careful how you characterize me, when you do not have the extensive hours of experience I have lived in dealing with hundreds of members since 2011. My observation is an accurate one; a small percentage of members want to “vent” on us whenever a game is lost. One member wrote in a prior year after the first loss to Washington that he would understand if you decided against being a Duck fan, and then left this forum for good! He left when I objected to the over-the-top negative view, and he was a FishDuck writer! It is an example of the crazy stuff I have to deal with. So post negative--it is fine. Just don't go extreme in your language or the number of times you post about it. If you have given us your opinion...fine. But we don't need to see the same thing five times. Stances did not miss catching open passes. Stances did not throw passes off target by a yard or more. Stances do not miss blocks. Stances do not miss tackles. Michigan coaching cleaned up their mess........Their coach stated after the Western Mich game......he is our QB......for now. The next game they beat number 11. Oregon was just not motivated and sharp. After being placed on the field in inhuman heat for the third third and out....any defense is going to give ground. Our offense sucked. Dante screams at his team.....after he misses a wide open receiver. We have a luxury. I'd get Dylan warmed up. Just my humble opinion.

Sorry, Charles, that you believe it is inappropriate to make negative comments. But when OBD are three touchdown favorites and get whipped like happened on Saturday it is unrealistic to expect fans to be positive. OBD has over 30 highly paid people on its coaching staff, according to the depth chart on GoDucks.com. I was taught in elementary school football to take the exact same stance on every play for the very reason that the defense could read whether the play was a pass or run if you took different stances based on how you were going to block. Our coach was a volunteer who drove a fruit delivery truck to feed his family. He knew that basic principle of football in 1951. It was obvious that we were losing to OK State on the line of scrimmage. Also seemed like Boise State was beating us there as well. Several of our defensive players are not wrapping up on tackles. That our coaching staff did not train our paid players to take the same stance on every play shows a complete lack of staff discipline. Same for wrapping up. How they could watch that game and not figure out what was being done to them is equally embarrassing. Grampa Duck

As I said before. The team sucked! Could be coaches, could be scheme, could be players, most likely all three at least.. If it is the player.. sit him. If it the coaches.. help them improve or replace them If it is the scheme.... Fix it.... We should know more when we leave LA... Go Ducks!!!

Good post, Geo. But if Dante had dropped back instead of rolling out, would Oregon have won the game? This game should have been over at halftime. If the Tulsa coaches were on the sideline, would Oregon have won the game? Oregon got punched in the mouth and couldn't get off the canvas against a bunch of G6 athletes. I respect your thoughts and the similar thoughts of other Forum friends. But I don't believe the Oregon players are failing to perform because of the coaching; I see an entitled group of athletes who are failing to show up and play disciplined and inspired football. If they are not coached up and not fired up, that's on Lanning more than it is on in-game coaching. Dan is moving into James Franklin territory. He has won a lot of games, but not the games that win titles.

Regardless of whose fault this is at the end of the day the fault is on the Oregon Ducks football TEAM.

I am not sure I agree with it being only a player issue. On defense, Oregon has 8 returning starters, including several on the all BIG ten list and a freshman All American. Do they all of a sudden not care or forget how to play? Tosh was a guy who brought the juice. Players rallied around him. Is Hampton that guy? That is yet to be seen, but so far the answer appears to be no. Dante Moore is an exceptional pocket passer, but not as accurate while on the move. So naturally on 4th and 8 you call a play to roll him out to the right immediately and take away 1/2 half of the field WITHOUT two of your start receivers in the game? The playcall is indefensible IMO.

I don't think this is the worst time for assistant coaches who are coaching a bunch of players who will play in the NFL? The D-line and the defense in general stinks because Tosh is at Cal? Stein isn't around, so 4* and 5* star O-line guys can't move guys out so Oregon can run the ball? At the end of the National Anthem, it's about the players on the field and not the coaches. To date, the Oregon players are uninspired and undisciplined. Would Tosh's coaching, with his defense destroyed by Ohio State in the Rose Bowl and Indiana in the Peach Bowl, make a significant difference? Would Stein, last seen at Kentucky being blown out by Alabama, make a difference? No coach will make a difference if the players do not give a whip. If the players don't care, it's on them for cashing checks and not being invested in winning. The stats tell the story. To date, Oregon's loaded roster is simply soft. This is a top-down player and head coach problem, not an assistant coaching problem. And credit to him, Dan is the first to admit it. But can it be fixed? Will Dan, with an impeccable record against unranked teams before last Saturday, be able to close the deal with a championship? If the will to win from the players isn't there, it's on the players, and no group of coaches can fix it. If future NFL guys are fine with being beat up by the junior varsity, so be it. There are no extraneous reasons why Oregon has underachieved to date; top-drawer players haven't shown up.

Every team that played against Vince Lombardi's Packers knew what was coming and couldn't stop it. Does anyone believe Tosh and Stein on the sidelines would have made a difference in the game? Oregon was punched in the mouth, defeated on both sides of the LOS. The solution is with the athletes; show up ready to play and kick the south side of the mule headed north. It's about blocking, tackling, and attitude. Boise State and Oklahoma State had the better will to win.

Sometimes, you just get lucky, and hopefully, like Grand Dad, you make a move that turns out to be just Duckey! 😍 It's not how you start. It's how you finish!
