While they recruit bigger DL, and faster players on defense, it does seem that our defensive progression is slow. Tosh seems a little like Cristobal, except on defense. Meaning that the defense seems to be underperforming to their capabilities. Not sure what the missing ingredient seems to be, but isn’t the MINT defense designed to make it difficult on a QB to determine where pressure may be coming from? Good defensive set for spread offenses, but adjustments need to be made based on personnel matchups. Perhaps the best is yet to come.

I think it is safe to say the majority of marriages don’t work for the long term. People change, or in many cases, they don’t change. A marriage is a partnership, and even business partnerships fall apart over time. You should always start with good intentions, but as the old joke goes… "Why is a divorce so expensive? … because it’s worth it."

Brent Pry of Virginia Tech may have the current record of losing one score games, at least by the percentage of losses. His current record stands at 1 - 9. That record does not endear a coach to its fans. Nebraska has to be in the running for losing that type of game as well.

Cornerback is one of the most difficult positions to play on defense. A CB’s reaction times and quickness are negated if a decent QB has the time to throw the ball. The most effective secondaries get a huge assist from the pass rush, or blitzing scheme. With 39 sacks Oregon was ranked #6. Oregon’s passing defense allowed 187 yards/game, and total defense allowed 19.4 points/game. Our red zone defense was below average allowing teams to score 85% of the time. To compare, tOSU pass defense allowed 167/game, and total defense 12.9 points/game. Their red zone defense allowed scores 60% of the time, and was near the top in the nation. Our secondary is just part of the entire story.

Sadly, It is not just former PAC 12 schools. The financial model for D1 college sports relies heavily on media revenue, and the lack of revenue will force many Universities Athletic departments into difficult decisions. Opportunities for athletes to compete in football, and other sports will be impacted, and opportunities for our youth to compete decreasing. Unfortunately, escalating costs and diminishing revenues have harsh consequences. The landscape is changing, and the lack of money to compete is the reality.

Priceless. The fact that SUC leads the nation in being overrated for the last 15 years is not news to any Oregon fans. What is comical is that the SuC fans always believe their preseason hype. Then they have to watch them play.

This posturing is all about the “Benjamin’s “, nothing more, and nothing less. A conference commissioner, worth his salt, is trying to secure the financial well being of all conference members. A number of Colleges athletics departments are operating at a loss, the future of many sports depends on the revenue generated from football. The CFP is a big slice of pie. However, to participate in the playoff, conferences should have basic guidelines to participate. 9 conference games is a solid start. As an aside, Notre Dame should be required to join a conference to be a viable participant.

FEBU… (Forget Everybody But US) seems to be Dan Lanning’s motto, and overall message to his players. Seems fitting because many times we are that cute team from the Northwest that nobody wants to really play. Personally, I like win the day, but I think a team motto comes from the coach, or players.

Jordon is a beast. It hurts tackling guys with thighs like tree trunks. Looks like he could have played as a lineman for many high school teams.

Madison Beer is certainly attractive. Not sure if discussing mental issues is a first date thing, or do you wait until the second date?

Dante Moore’s tape looks solid to me. Quick release and can throw downfield with accuracy. I have confidence that he is a good fit for our offense. Solid review by this guy.

We are unbeaten so far…. The Ducks surprise everyone with Dante Moore and Makhi Hughes playing some Heisman style ball. Iapani wins Rimington trophy, and the OL secures the Joe Moore award. I am running with that until proven wrong.

Football playoffs at the lower levels are a completely different economic model. Huge money for media contracts at the D1 level. Making any decisions by committee is an agonizing way of making decisions. Just land on something and modify when needed. Most D3 football programs do not generate enough revenue to cover the costs of simply having a football team. Although hosting a playoff can generate additional revenue for local restaurants, bars, and hotels. The gap between the level of play for a team ranked 24th compared to the top 4 in D1 is generally huge. Can the team seeded 24th win a game? Sure they can win a game, are they going to win the championship? Nope.

We all know that preseason polls generate conversation and excitement before the season, and are never 100% accurate. No matter when polls are generated there will always be bias involved. Does anyone think that all +130 football teams are on equal footing to start the season? Absolutely not. Bigger Brands, or names will generally always get more positive bias than they may deserve… Projecting winners and losers is fun, but never easy. Just look at how quickly March Madness brackets get destroyed.

Never underestimate an opponent. DL and his assistants are top notch coaches as well. However, If games are won in the trenches, then just glance at the MS roster. They have 5 players at 300 lbs, or more…Oregon has 22. Oregon has never had this many bigs this size, along with NFL bound DE’s. I also trust Tez Johnson’s assessment of Dante Moore, and the receivers that are up next. ( not sure why this is so huge…lol)

We generally are deeper, bigger, and faster than teams at this level. I will say that the Autzen crowd is generally somewhat reserved for these types of games. It won’t be nearly as intense at Autzen for this game, when compared to when SUC comes to Eugene, later in the season. I think our defense will be excited to hit someone other than their own teammates, and keep the bobcat offense in check. Which gives our offense some solid reps against a decent team.
