  1. It’ll be a good test for our run defense as UCLA has a talented RB who ran for over 100 yards against Oregon in last years playoff game at Autzen stadium. UCLA’s defense has also been getting a lot of interceptions so Oregon’s QBs will need to continue to protect the ball and make good decisions, and take calculated gambles. I think it’s going to be a high scoring game, as Oregon’s defense has not shown the ability to shut anyone down (with the exception of PSU).
  2. Thanks for sharing. Did Coach Lanning say that Dante’s been fully cleared for practice and/or is playing in pads? If not, I would assume he is stretching, running and throwing without pads, and will not play against UCLA. The worst thing you can do is rush a player back from a concussion, even if the player wants to play. Sometimes it’s the medical staff’s job to protect the player from themself.
  3. Unfortunately, I believe that MC will win a national championship before Coach Lanning will.
  4. And USC tried its best to leave Oregon behind in the Pac-12. LOL.
  5. To be fair, all defensive schemes have weaknesses that can be exploited and that is why good defenses have to mix it up, and disguise coverages and blitzes. Oregon has been playing a lot of cover 2 which is vulnerable in the middle of the field. Against USC, they tried to disguise it more and used a lot more simulated pressure and stunts and twists upfront. Oregon also played man coverage and brought more blitzes against USC and it is always a thing of beauty when rushers can collapse the offensive line quickly. I also don’t love dropping our defensive ends into coverage, as it takes away our best pass rushers. Hopefully, we use this very sparingly as a wrinkle to hopefully confuse the QB. Miava seems too savvy and well coached to confuse with this look. One of the videos I posted above breaks down the technique Oregon was using to contain the edge. They said the counter is a staple of Riley’s offense and you have to stop that. Oregon did a great job most of the night but USC broke a few big runs. On the one, the linebacker did not get wide enough once the d-lineman plugged the inside holes and the safety/cornerback were late and took bad angles. One thing I haven’t seen mention here is that a certain safety transfer has not played as well as the person he has replaced. I’m not sure if it’s because he is still learning the system or just wasn’t as good/talented as expected but there has been a noticeable drop off in that position.
  6. I have a different take and believe that the defense is getting better. The defense stepped up with some huge stops in the 4th quarter to help win the game. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the opposing offense. Riley is one of the best offensive minds and play callers in college football, USC has some young playmakers and their QB can make throws into tight coverage. The below videos break down the Oregon defense vs. USC.
  7. He also posted a video breaking down Dylan Riola’s play against USC.
  8. Joey Harrington, on Talkin' Ducks, said that that incompletion was on the young receiver, Hampton. Riola correctly recognized zone coverage and the wide receiver should have sat, instead of continuing the route. The result was a pass behind him but it was the right read and execution by Riola. Someone also mentioned that the long TD was a result of Riola’s audible at the line of scrimmage. He recognized that a freshman USC corner was guarding an experienced, stud WR (Dakorien Moore?) and called for the double move.
  9. Dante is a class act and I hope that he does what is best for him.
  10. What did he say? I can’t stand to listen to that guy or Canzo.
  11. In college, you don’t even need to touch a player when his knee is down, he’s down. Not sure about the NFL.
  12. Better than NBC. They were all but rooting for USC. Not to mention that clown at halftime.
  13. I hear you but I just don’t see Coach Lanning not riding with Dante Moore the rest of the season, given what he gave up to come back to Oregon and how he was injured. It’s not like he hasn’t been playing well and is the reason for Oregon’s struggles (see offensive line and the defense, which was supposed to be one of the best in Oregon’s history). What would the implications be for future players deciding whether to forego the NFL draft to come back to Oregon? That said, I believe that Dylan Raiola has earned some playing time and would love to see him used situationally, as I believe he is more mobile than Dante Moore and could be used for some wrinkles in key situations.
  14. Pate also said that the USC program under Riley is like the sinking titanic and he is getting off that ship, even if he has to find a door to float on. LOL.
  15. Oregon gets a 5 place bump in the AP Poll for beating USC, on the road, by 14 points. Meanwhile, Florida gets a 13 place bump for beating the 119th ranked scoring defense at home and Mississippi State gets an 8 place bump for beating Missouri at home. And Missouri is still ranked (said as he’s laughing). The only reason that Oregon didn’t move up as much as those other two teams is “because they do not have that SEC patch on their jersey.”
  16. Josh Pate said that USC could be this year’s Penn State: • Fans and media saying that this year’s team is a national championship contender • Coach is on the hot seat and there are questions of whether he can win the “big game” • Oregon comes in and beats them at home in front of a sell-out crowd on prime time national television • They have a tough schedule ahead starting with UW this weekend, at Penn State, Ohio State and Indiana
  17. Someone posted the below video of this hit on Dillion Gabriel by Gary Patterson’s TCU defense. Looks eerily similar to last night…
  18. I was at that game and that play was made coming right towards us, in the stands. I still can’t believe Maehl made that catch!!!
  19. He certainly looks better than any of our safeties have looked back there, so far. Kingston is flying around the field making plays. It would have been nice to retain him. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LTvn_HVzc0Q&ra=m
  20. According to a recent Joel Klatt podcast, Oregon built its defense scheme assuming that our defensive line would be dominant and we would be able to win with a “light box.” That has not happened through the first 2 games. Instead, our defensive line is not shedding blocks, linebackers have not been sound in run fits and safeties have been late. Joel believes that we should switch to a one high safety (vs. 2 or even 3 safeties). He also pointed out that Oregon’s defensive line plays a gap control scheme (vs. penetration). Why not let the talented defensive line go and wreck havoc with stunts, twists and a straight up rush? Although Coach Lanning is very aggressive in some phases of the game (e.g., going for it on 4th down, special teams). His defense philosophy appears to be very conservative - the focus is on limiting big plays (“bend but don’t break”). I personally prefer an aggressive, attacking defense, even if we get beat deep occasionally. This has come as a surprise to me given his Alabama and Georgia pedigree.
  21. LSU could have hired James Franklin for a lot cheaper, with less baggage and a whole lot more character.
