QB’s Should Quit Sliding

Former Cal QB Nate Longshore brings up an interesting topic. When a QB slides he’s trusting the defense to follow the rules. While most defenders let up, those who don’t seriously injure the QB more often than not.

This is the third Duck game I’ve seen where a sliding QB was injured by the defender. One was our DB knocking the opposing QB out and the other was Vernon Adams against EWU.

Mandatory week of baseball practice for all QB's? 🤔

But what is the alternative? I think diving head first isn't a better way to do it.

Puts their body in harms way... They'll be hit for sure.

However, their head would be higher in the tackle and probably not hit.

He explains it in his X post. I always thought diving to the side of the defender would be a safer play, however it could lead to more shoulder injuries if not done correctly. CFB is a little better than the NFL in that once the player is down he can’t be hit.
