So, Oregon Could Knock Ohio State OUT of the Playoffs?
What bothered me about the defense against Northwestern was how often they converted on 3rd and long. That drove me nuts. Their QB is deceptively shifty and quick.

I liked them. I wonder what forest green would look like with white.

IMHO, it shouldn’t matter what anyone thinks would have happened. They had a great defense and would have had another month of prep to improve their offense. They were robbed by not one, but two one loss teams. The committee played politics with the SEC which should have been the fourth team, but Texas beat Alabama on the road in Week 2, so they had to keep Big12 Texas above Alabama, when Texas should have been left out. When you lose, you lose control of your destiny. But when you beat everyone in front of you in the old Power 5, it’s an injustice to everyone in that program to have a playoff opportunity stolen from you. They all checked out before that bowl game. I would have, too. Georgia might have been the best team that year. I have no idea why they laid an egg against Alabama.

Didn't like them. I like school colors, green and yellow. Until I saw the N on the helmets I thought the team in white was the Ducks.

Florida State was very good that year. It was their offense that would have been the difference. Scoring 16 against a middle tier Louisville was all the committee needed to see. The Seminoles wouldn't stand a chance against a good defense like Michigan's, and the Wolverines would have worn them down and stomped them. And even if those great players faced Georgia, Kirby had a message about whining. He delivered it poetically too. Florida State getting in based on merit is a nice narrative. They were no longer the team that rose to 11-0 before the injury. It also explains why Miami got in last year instead of Texas, who despite playing poorly plaid a much tougher schedule and survived. Not to mention playing Ohio State to open the season instead of Marist High School (local in Eugene). Miami lost to two unranked opponents and got in based on their September performance, and playing well in November. Florida State was limping into a title game they had trouble even controlling. It would have been embarrassing and unjustified to watch a limping Florida State take a position from a team that truly had a shot at the title. Remember-they got away with this by saying the best four. Florida State was not the 4th best team at the end of 2023. And it was fitting. Being humiliated exposed the program. If they were legit, it would have shown up the following year. Instead, the spiral has exposed Florida State is suffering as much as a bunch of SEC teams that no longer can stockpile talent. Norvell revived their QB's career-which unfortunately ended in Tallahassee. But the whining was more telling-they disintegrated. They disappeared as a program. The fan base surely didn't help (um hmm......).

If any 3 loss team could sneak into the playoff, it’s Ohio State. However, we’ll have the head to head win over Ohio State and USC. It’s unfathomable to imagine only two B1G teams would make the playoffs, but if OBD beat Ohio State and each of Iowa, USC, and Northwestern lose again (USC and NW very likely), the playoff committee may take a hard look at a 3-loss team. Oregon would arguably have the best resume and would be considered to be on a hot streak. I like our chances in Columbus. Finney vs Smith! This is Raiola’s team now and he is getting more and more comfortable each week. The young Buckeye QB doesn’t have the experience to exploit our defensive holes.

Week 9-10 AP Poll is Out - FWIW My Thoughts on Hold Until the PO Committee Rankings on 11/3
I am too. However, the only reason the SEC changed their mind was because they went to a 9 league game schedule and saw what it does to the top 12.

What Did You Think of Those Uniforms vs NW?
Short answer... Yes Longer answer.. the uniforms are a metaphor for the whole team right now.

Are you talking uniforms or offense, defense and OLine play? Asking for a "nation"

What Did You Think of Those Uniforms vs NW?
I mean... They kinda were. The blacks are from the black uniform set. And the whites are from the all white uniform set. Some players were wearing the mummy duck stuff from last year at Penn State. Right now our uniforms are not synergistic and don't mix and match well.

They won in them--However I prefer school colors incorporated into the scheme.

I very seldom find very much fault with the uniforms, but these looked like maybe 3 different designers added their input with no concern for the rest. the colors just did not work.

I was not a big fan. The jerseys looked like a star wars theme. The all black and white pants didn't fit. The helmets looked good.

So, Oregon Could Knock Ohio State OUT of the Playoffs?
There have been a lot of blown assignments. Offenses are changing to beat the Duck D and Oregon has not been keeping up. I don't know about Perich. One play he is OK, and the next he is way out of position. Losing Flowers has hurt. And here is something else I noticed. When the D line rushes and keeps some kind of contain on the QB, they don't get to him. When they rush to get him asap, he runs away from them and down the field. Ducks seem to do best when they throw in some kind of blitz package with a faster runner. Jackson and Mixon are like Perich. One play OK, the next is not so good. It is not just physical talent. It is also knowing your assignment.

Probably correct, Mike. But without QB Jordan Travis, FSU did win the ACC Championship Game, defeating Louisville 16-6 to go 13-0. With the disappointment of being bounced in favor of Alabama, many of FSU's draft-eligible players, especially on defense, sat out the bowl game. Both FSU and Georgia would have been in a 12-team PO field. I recall Greg Sankey making a fool of himself lobbying for Bama, and Kirby Smart bemoaning the circumstances that led to the bowl beatdown of FSU. Alabama did give champion Michigan a battle in the Rose Bowl semifinal, which Michigan won in OT.

And they would have got stomped. The committee did them Justice. As Georgia clearly demonstrated.

This needs to be a process, Lanning shouldn't make any decisions until about a month or more from now. He needs to evaluate what he wants as his offensive identity and then find the best person for the job. That might be Norvell, but they shouldn't be in any hurry to make a decision in the next few weeks.

Surprising Prediction Contest Twist...But Not the Winner!
Thanks all. FYI, I wasn't kidding in my prediction post about the NW defense. I noted that about a dozen defensive players were Unavailable. We HAD to score some. Didn't we? 😄
