Oregon - Michigan Pre-Game Discussion Thread
Michigan and UW were supposed to be big games, right? Now they're simply B1G. Friday night, October 20th, in East Lansing, vs. Sparty could be the toughest game left on the schedule. With an 8 PM Eastern kickoff, it will be cold. Michigan State, with Paul Bunyan's Trophy in hand, gets a struggling UW at home on Saturday and would love to sweep the Northwest. Will Michigan finish with a bowl-eligible record? Will Whit follow AD Warde Manuel out the door with a negotiated buyout for him and $3 million a year OC Jason Beck? Mash Michigan! Leave Kyle at Whit's end!

Hats Off to the O Line
Charles is correct that it is hit and miss for the line. Run plays between the center and guards just arent very successful. Neither are plays that take time to develope. Pin and pull plays off tackle are generating chunk gains Rewatch the game and you will see 2 or 3 lineman blocking downfield. To win against the big SEC teams in the CFP it is important to have an inside power run game. Blocking for run plays, hopefully improves. Forcing the linebackers to stay tight will open so much open field for the skill guys. Pass blocking has improved. DR has had more time to find his target and make most throws. Jay Johnson's play calling has not fooled opponents early in both games. However, he has made the right adjustments and 85 points in 2 games bears that out. Also, giving DR quick throws to assigned targets has produced no sacks and no picks the last 2 games. That takes pressure off the line. Simplifying DR's reads to half the field has been beneficial. Michigan does not surrender many points. Let's hope the line play keeps improving and OBD's puts 30 plus points on the board. Go Ducks.

CBS Would Not Allow Recording Ohio State on DirectTV
I was wondering why I didn’t see a recording of the Ohio State game on DirectTV. I have a team recording set for all Oregon games. I called DirectTV and their answer stunned me. CBS did not allow recording of the game. Apparently I could watch it live but DirectTV would not record the game. This is a whole new level of enshitification. Because it was a big, popular game, I could no longer record the game. I work during game time and always watch Oregon games by recording. So how many playoff or other big games are the networks going to block recording? A DirectTV subscription is now nearly useless. Guess it is time to buy and set up an over the air recording system so the networks can’t block me from recording key games I love our high-tech world where every service gets worse. I’m really pissed.

I wonder how Kyle Whittingham feels about leaving Utah for Michigan? He is probably making a lot more money.

Should Jay Johnson Remain as the Offensive Coordinator?
If, after a thorough, genuine, and complete national search of all the best available candidates in college football, it is then determined that Johnson is the best candidate available to be our OC, then sure. Otherwise, no.

Should Jay Johnson Remain as the Offensive Coordinator?
IMO: The success since Jay Johnson took over, compared to before, is perhaps more about Mehringer. BTW: I had been screaming for an occasional traditional screen pass over the middle to a tailback all year. It slows up the pass rush that makes Railoa vulnerable.

Oregon Ducks open as double-digit favorite over Michigan WolverinesFanDuel Sportsbook has opened the betting line with Oregon favored by 10.5 points at home. Michigan has struggled to move the ball offensively this season, managing just six points in a loss to rival Michigan State last week in Ann Arbor. Two good defenses will meet, and it could turn into a low-scoring battle. The total points spread is currently set at just 40.5 points. Oregon is a heavy favorite on the money line, boasting -400 odds, while Michigan opens at +310. https://duckswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/ducks/football/2026/11/08/oregon-football-betting-preview-michigan-wolverines/92678541007/

Good Gosh, the Prediction Contest Winner was CLOSE!
As you know, the final score was 41-28, and the winning prediction by Jemangi was 38-27, only four points off! I thought everyone who predicted Oregon to win was brave, but to win by this margin? To have a dominating 38-14 lead in the 3rd quarter? Not what any of us saw, but for Jemangi, and I certainly congratulate his foresight. Way to go Jemangi! Not the Same Celebration for Buckeye Fans....

Ryan Day our OC Next Year?
Multiple schools would fire their current head coaches and hire Day. He is a proven commodity that others would pay dearly for. Day is 88-15 in 7 plus seasons. Don't see tOSU parting ways with Day. Even if that happens a few seasons down the road, Day would have his pick of most schools. DL falls into that category, too. Good advice to be careful for what you wish for. Of course, at tOSU, a 4th loss this season at the hands of Michigan would set off a firestorm for Day. Go Ducks! Beat Michigan

Should Jay Johnson Remain as the Offensive Coordinator?
May be the AD or a booster provide input. Do you really feel that DL needs to be micro managed by the AD and a booster? The AD or boosters know to not clip DL's wings with a power play. Most all of the P4 Schools would fire their HC to get DL.DL is a proven winner. DL promoted internally because the new OC and DC had earned his trust. They knew what DL wanted. They already had relationships with the players and recruits. None of us know the behind the scenes stripes that Meh earned to have DL's trust and confidence. The AD signed off and had their contracts prepared and approved. Remember DL had successful hires in DIlly and Stein as OC. DL is a communicator and he most likely knows the vision forward for his program. And has conveyed that to the AD and booxter. There is and was no guarantee that a new hire would work out or succeed. Is that a reason to micro manage a 54-11 coach with back to back CFP appearances? Thank our lucky stars that Mullen didn't listen to former players and boosters to hire Wilcox.... DL will do his due diligence and make his hire. He will have a 5 game or more sample size from Jay to factor into this. DL is more apt to get input from Saban or Smart than his AD or a booster. Also, the DC hire is working out fine. He is learning on the job. A miss on a OC does not bring panic into the process. DL addressed the problem and his choice to hang the interim job to Jay has so far bern successful. DL showed leadership and he is learning on the job, too..

DC Chris Hampton: Yay or Nay?
I think Lanning has taken a greater hand in the defense this year as well. If that's the case that's probably something he should continue to do.

Matatum Tuigalelei
I forgot about that! Tatum looked a little awkward, but nailed his throw, but Mateyo looked so natural tracking and catching the ball, the perfectly time hurdle was icing on the cake.

Ryan Day our OC Next Year?
Ohio State fans should be careful what they wish for. Ryan Day isn't going anywhere, but if he did wouldn't that be great? OSU fans don't realize the talent drain that has happened to their roster. It's less insidious than the NFL, but that is just because it happens faster. But don't expect OSU fans to notice. Living in the past is thinking things are still the same they were 3 years ago. We reloaded on D right? Not at all. Maybe Day is doing less with more than Meyers ever did, but Day still has less to work with than Meyer ever did this year too. Certainly he has stubborn coordinators that want to run styles and schemes that don't play to the strengths of the players they have. Day will make changes this off-season. OC, TE coach, and probably a few other position coaches will be gone. But we will continue to steal recruits from OSU (there were recruits at OSU yesterday taking selfies with Dakorian Moore after the game). Lanning is self correcting in real time, but Day is stubborn. Still if OSU insists Day is the problem and let's him go, we'll gladly take him off their hands as OC, or if OSU fans prefer, Michigan could do the same instead.

Should Jay Johnson Remain as the Offensive Coordinator?
This team has a top 5 roster so coaches just getting out of the way should get them top 10 results which is now what we're seeing on offense. Good coaches should get them better than top 5 results. Great coaches should have them in the championship conversation. I say let's go for that.

Current Catch Rules are an Insult to Athletes and our Intelligence.
I was listening to College Sports Radio on SXM this morning. Dusty Dvoracek mad a good point that since Lofton had the control when his other foot stepped out of bounds then it should have been a dead ball and a TD. His guest who was a rules expert said the ball was moving in his hands, so he never had total control.
