  2. But Oregon spent money on Iverson Hooks when the receiver room was already loaded? None of it makes any sense.
  3. Way to go Steven A. and Go Ducks! Charles, thank YOU for the contest and for the tiebreakers!
  4. Dan Lanning taking 3 timeouts on that Nebraska's drive at the end of the first half was ridiculous. I understand he had good reason to believe we would be able to stop them, but what reason did he have to believe we would be able to do anything with the ball with 1 minute left? We had less than 40 yards at that point. Without spotting them that extra time the drive likely would have gone like the final drive of the game did, with he clock restricting the play calling giving our D the advantage. That touchdown call was ridiculous too. The ref called it a touchdown on the field because he didn't see the receiver's backside was on the line, not that his right toe clipped some blades of grass, yet in review it was the right toe that "could not be indisputably rules as not touching the ground" meant they couldn't overturn the call. Really. That a flaw in the logical process of reviews. As someone else mentioned at the time, it felt like that score would be enough for Nebraska to win.
  5. While not having the guys prepared out of the gate reared its head again, one credit to the coaches is their game strategy ultimately worked, though barely. Conservative ball control slow game down offense and rely on D to keep us in the game. CHECK
  6. If we had great blocking, then all plays called would work. It all starts in the trenches, and the O-Line is a work in progress...
  7. I'm loving Brandon Finney at nickel! First off his run support is excellent and his tackling is some of the best on the team. Having him at nickel brings him closer to the middle of the field and therefore closer to the action on every play. Nasir Wyatt getting more playing time has been a big plus as he has the speed to get to the sideline and pursue a speedy QB when they take off. Not to mention his ability to pass rush. He needs more playing time. Devin Jackson was looking good as a true freshman. It's always fun when you say out loud "who was that". A ton of underclassman got a lot of playing time last night and they look pretty good.
  8. UO, UW, USC and UCLA are asked to do the same only in reverse and a lot more often. Game prep starting at 6am is equally difficult. Add travel miles and UO is at an even greater disadvantage as the season wears on and travel starts to compound. I don't think I will be feeling sorry for any B1G team around body clock and travel miles.
  9. Ducks recruited 2 5 Star tackles last year: Tofi (77) and Ibeanacho (79).
  10. Lailu set #1 straight up and Davison knocked him back. That was cool. Lott's 1st down catch on 4th down is a contender for me. DR went through his progressions, which is commendable for the circumstances, and Lott ran his route on the correct side of the sticks.
  11. The official tally was Oregon winning 17-14, with one turnover created by Oregon, along with three sacks by the Ducks on Nebraska, and passing yards of 113. Both Steven A. and PittDuck had the winning score of 17-14! In turnovers, Steven A. won had one, while PittDuck had two, thus Steven A. wins that tiebreaker. With sacks, PittDuck had three, while Steven A. had two, thus PittDuck won that tiebreaker, and it all comes down to the final tiebreaker! Steven A. listed 179 passing yards from Oregon, while PittDuck listed 175, thus he was closer to the 113 yards and PittDuck WINS the Prediction Contest vs. Nebraska. Whew! So rarely do we have the score nailed by two entries, and the tiebreaker so close! Great competition, just like the game and again--Congrats to PittDuck!
  12. I was very adamant that against OSU the extreme temp and humidity were the reason we lost (which I still stand by), so to be fair, I think we lose this game with a 5pm start time. Nebraska played us very tough, but I don't think physiologically you can operate at peak performance at 2am. It's the same reason for pac12 after dark craziness playing at 11pm, but on steroids for Nebraska with such a late time for their body clocks. Yes DR came in and started making key throws , but there were straight ahead plays that weren't working all game that started to working better the later it got. Nebraska didn't wear down like that against Indiana (they just got coverage beat twice by NFL level receiver talent). Still happy we won, but circumstances were definitely in our favor with Nebraska playing in a foreign environment way past their bedtime.
  13. I know few are happy with offensive output right now, myself included, but there were actually some good highlights in this game. Let's share them. What was your favorite play? No negative remarks in this thread please. There are plenty of other threads for that. My favorite play was Jordon Davison (No. 0) vs Jahsear Whittington (No. 1) 4th-and-1 at the 6-yard line, 43 seconds remaining. The score: Nebraska 14, Oregon 9. Out of the Wildcat formation, Oregon running back Davison (0) took the direct snap but encountered Nebraska’s massive defensive tackle, Whittington (1). Whittington had the size. Davison attacked with power and technique: lower pads and strength conquered sheer mass. Davison crashed into Whittington and knocked the bigger defender backward. They needed one and got two. That set up fourth and goal which led to the final go ahead touchdown.
  14. TWO first downs in the first half?? Coach ... "Hey, let's give BT one more quarter of torture."
  15. The scheme has it's issues for sure but the players are now executing it at a high level, and seemed extremely prepared for everything Nebraska tried to do. This defense is as good or better than the 2019 defense now. The cornerbacks are likely the best cornerback group in college football (next year it won't even be a question). The LBs are hitting the right gaps more often than not and the DL is starting to dominate consistently. There is still room for improvement as well, which I expect to continue. The Lincoln Riley's of the world will continue to exploit the weaknesses of the scheme, but I think our players are finally talented enough and experienced enough to keep that in check. I don't see any team in the country that could score more than 30 on us, which makes this a championship level defense. The problem is there are about 80 teams that could keep us from scoring more than 30 points right now...
  16. The O line is a real issue. Not sure why they play so poorly for huge chunks of games. It baffles me. Maybe its coaching, maybe talent, experience or offensive scheme. All of the above? A ton of money was spent to retain players on this team. How much was spent on O line. I think this coaching staff knew from the start (last January) that the guys in that position group would not be sufficient to win games. I think the donors where informed about the possible issues. They probably didn't want to spend anymore money. Can't blame them, $50 mil is a lot. Just a theory I have. O line is the second most important position group on any football team. I don't know the numbers allocated to O line talent. It just feels like the purse might have been mis-allocated. Did Lanning not go into the portal for O line because he was told there is no more money? Seems plausible to me.
  17. Today

  18. The OC is the real problem. End of story.
  19. I was think about your article once DR went in. Psychology is a funny thing. DR is nails when winning is personal, and a failure when he takes the rat poison.
  20. I think if either were OC we would have been considerably more comfortable and would have probably won by two scores. But the offensive line play was just an outright liability. They sort of figured some things out in the fourth quarter. But this team has some major fundamental problems.
  21. Here's a few problems. A former tight end is coaching the QBs. Some guy is coaching the tight ends. The tight end coach is running the offense.
  22. They are missing their Quarterback and have new coordinators. Plus on the offensive side they are still very young. Plus, when a team goes through some struggle the fans perspective most always changes.
  23. Coaching plain and simple. If Dilly or Stein was the OC we win last night by 30+. Play calling is horrible. Had an explayer sitting in front of me last night..It is the OC.
  24. I know I’m the new guy and I hope my thoughts have relevance here. Yesterday I watched Ohio State/Indiana, Tennessee/Alabama, parts of Florida/Georgia and BYU/Notre Dame before the Ducks took the field. In all of those other games I saw at least one team that had that combination of grit, fire and organization that tells me they’re title contenders. Then there was Oregon/Nebraska. The Ducks have the individual talent to compete with anyone. But something’s missing. Something’s just a little bit off. Tennessee and BYU seemed to have that “NO… you’re NOT going to beat us” attitude. The Ducks were more like “we’re better than you and we can dial it up if we need to but we probably don’t have to”. Is it organization and motivation? Is it coaching? Is it team culture? I can’t put my finger on it but something just feels a little off to me. Am I the only one who feels that way?
  25. That would explain a lot. Definitely worth rewatching the games to look for that. I wonder if someone stole and sold Oregons playbook.
  26. There was a lot of stress in Duck nation for sure. That was easily the most boring exciting head scratching game I’ve experienced in my 55 years as a Duck fan.
  27. I believe in Lanning’s process… mostly. First, I have not the remotest idea of why he kept Thomas in the game for three quarters. What on earth was he thinking? He and we are extremely lucky that the Ducks pulled this one out of the fire. The defense was as good as the offense was bad. Is that Lanning’s defensive genius on display? Maybe so. I am a believer that Lanning is one of the nation’s best head coaches. But he’s also young and has made some glaring mistakes. His OC is no better than most in that position at any group of 6 school. He’s worse than many. Oregon has the money and cachet to hire a top notch experienced coordinator. Someone who loves coaching offense and isn’t as driven to move on to head coaching opportunities. Losing our last two offensive coordinators in very short order definitely caused problems. Promoting someone from within made it worse in my opinion. I’m a Lanning believer but keeping Raiola on the bench for so long is troublesome to say the least. The leash on Thomas was far too long. Just my thoughts.
