  6. How Dylan Raiola Prepared For A Moment He Didn’t Know Was ComingDylan Raiola was texting Dan Lanning all week. He heard one thing about USC in a press conference and spotted something else while watching film, and wanted his head coach to know. Raiola, Oregon's backup quarterback, was unlikely to take a snap against the Trojans last Saturday. But he wanted to be helpful and proactive, just in case. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/how-dylan-raiola-prepared-moment-he-didnt-know-coming
  7. Dan Lanning’s Recruiting Edge Includes One Must-See Detail in His OfficeOregon is flexing its NFL success, with at least six players taken in the NFL Draft in each of the last four years, with 31 total selections under coach Dan Lanning. With ease, Lanning answered countless questions from Barstool, Pat McAfee and others about quarterback Dante Moore's scary injury and Lanning's "petty" jab at USC. However, the backdrop in Lanning's office could have been the loudest comment of all. Lanning has a recruiting pitch running inside his office before he even begins a conversation. A digital ticker displays the NFL contracts and earnings of "Pro Ducks." These numbers from former Oregon players now starring on Sundays, are nothing to scoff at either. 16. Bob Chesney's classy offer to Dan Lanning and Dante Moore proves UCLA found its guyWhile Dan Lanning and the Oregon staff were doing all that they could to check on Moore, and make sure he was healthy, others were looking out for the quarterback. Before facing off against the Ducks next week, UCLA head coach Bob Chesney made an incredible offer to Dan Lanning, which the Ducks head coach revealed on The Jim Rome Show. 17. To be fair, all defensive schemes have weaknesses that can be exploited and that is why good defenses have to mix it up, and disguise coverages and blitzes. Oregon has been playing a lot of cover 2 which is vulnerable in the middle of the field. Against USC, they tried to disguise it more and used a lot more simulated pressure and stunts and twists upfront. Oregon also played man coverage and brought more blitzes against USC and it is always a thing of beauty when rushers can collapse the offensive line quickly. I also don’t love dropping our defensive ends into coverage, as it takes away our best pass rushers. Hopefully, we use this very sparingly as a wrinkle to hopefully confuse the QB. Miava seems too savvy and well coached to confuse with this look. One of the videos I posted above breaks down the technique Oregon was using to contain the edge. They said the counter is a staple of Riley’s offense and you have to stop that. Oregon did a great job most of the night but USC broke a few big runs. On the one, the linebacker did not get wide enough once the d-lineman plugged the inside holes and the safety/cornerback were late and took bad angles. One thing I haven’t seen mention here is that a certain safety transfer has not played as well as the person he has replaced. I’m not sure if it’s because he is still learning the system or just wasn’t as good/talented as expected but there has been a noticeable drop off in that position.
  18. USC should be fined for the after the hit antics!
  19. In the last 10 matchups with USC: 8-2 - Oregon 8-2 - Notre Dame I wonder if any other program comes close to that in the last 10? Maybe that's why SC was babbling about keeping the ND series? And, I think this is accurate for current consecutive series: 0-5 vs Oregon 0-3 vs UW - (USC is favored this Saturday) 0-4 vs Utah and 0-3 vs Notre Dame
  20. David, you made an interesting comparison between the known time Stephens will be away from the game, and the unknown duration for Dante. If the punishment were to fit the crime, shouldn’t the perp’s time away not be measured in games, but by the time lost to the injured player?

  24. After watching a replay of Purdue vs UCLA it sure looks like the UCLA defensive DB's are sub par. DR ought to dice them up nicely.
  25. Only problem with CBS is New Weasel, (Neuhiesel) can be a real moron and is a UCLA homer.
  26. Lot's of good comments in this thread. Our defensive scheme has shortcomings that Riley and Maiava spent most of the game exploiting: setting the edge of the defense is not a priority, and often times it seems like everyone in coverage including LBs are just standing there with a bag of popcorn watching the QB while receivers are running free to open spaces where Maiava can flip them the ball. Both of those traits are intentional bend don't break strategies, but I feel like there just has to be a newer and better approach, because it just seems too easy to exploit when the other offensive play caller knows how to attack it.
  27. The defense was visibly better, different schemes and play calls. Still don't like having either of the edges dropping back into coverage, a 270 lb guy just can't be expected to cover receivers in the middle of the field. OL was performing better as well. Neither was at an elite level yet but incremental progress is key. I'm hoping by mid-season they'll be good enough to compete for the conference championship game. That'll be the indicator that they're ready for the CFP.
  28. I recall watching that last USC possession. I don't think LR gave up so much as his players on the field were completely inept and lacked urgency. That's on him. Then again I could be wrong and his players just lost all motivation at that point.
