I'd guess the conversation from USC to Stephens went something like this: "Here's you apology statement that you're going to read exactly as written."

No one can tell me that the SC coaches didn't know what was going on with all the snickers and high-fives and love pats going on over on the bench with Stephens enjoying his sudden celebrity status. That's as good an example of a team's culture as anything I've seen televised and it isn't pretty. If I were the AD I'd have some serious penalties waiting for people, coaches and players, called into my office. I'd like to think that the Ducks would never allow that to happen. And I will bet serious money that Dan and the rest of the staff are using that disgusting display as a teaching moment.

Former Cal QB Nate Longshore brings up an interesting topic. When a QB slides he’s trusting the defense to follow the rules. While most defenders let up, those who don’t seriously injure the QB more often than not. This is the third Duck game I’ve seen where a sliding QB was injured by the defender. One was our DB knocking the opposing QB out and the other was Vernon Adams against EWU.

Both those teams were not ranked by the coaches poll...but very, very close to making the Top 25. Too early yet, but our schedule could end up looking pretty strong by season's end. Oregon was No. 15 in both polls, and UCLA is now ranked at No. 23! A ton of ranked, or nearly ranked teams on our schedule thus far...

This was a Kirby Smartesk road win. I keep saying Lanning is Kirby. Georgia and even Bama (Saban’s teams) win like this on the road.

Yes, too little, too late. But at least it is some form of punishment. The player and coach should issue a public apolgy, along with all the players who high fived, hand slapped and celebrated an injury to an opposing player. It smells all up and down the I-5 Corridor. The Trojan AD and administation should step up and add more suspension for the celebration antics. Riley should be suspended 1 game, too. They won't because they are too busy talking to donors/boosters trying to raise the money to buy Riley out of his contract. They are more concerned about losing the game than an injured player Usuck Trojans continue to prove they are classless.

This is something. Remember under the new targeting rules for the first infraction a player sits out the rest of the game (regardless of when it happens) and then is good to go in the next game. USC was backed into a corner over the behavior that they needed to get out ahead of this with a suspension. It's too little too late in many regards. If that sort of thing happened on this Oregon team I would hope Lanning would just kick that player to the locker room immediately for that kind of behavior. Riley let him hang out on the sideline. Remember targeting does not lead to ejection anymore as well. This was the least they could do to save face.... Or at least start to clean their face.

I saw rumblings of being able to hold USC to 10 or 17. And I mean that earnestly. Lanning was more aggressive on defense yesterday. That is the first step. It is a matter of scheme now. And that what is going to separate teams at this point. Strategy and immediate adjustment. Not next year. NOW. Lanning and company forced USC to pull out everything they have. That is a very good sign. Forcing teams to do things because they have to. Teams will have to spread OBD out to control the ball. I saw inklings of solving that problem. But I am not sure Lanning will go full tilt and shut down efforts to set up a Grand Canyon of room on the football field. Finally, I don't think any team can run on OBD when they put five guys on the Line of Scrimmage. Hope Lanning took full note.

Woefully inadequate. He should get at least a 1 game suspension for the hit alone. Plus, about an addition 4+ game suspension for his sickening behavior after the hit.

Although it's early in the process, I'm definitely feeling some relief for Dante with the updated news we are receiving. Although Dante suffered a mild traumatic brain injury, which is what a concussion is, clearly, the CT scan showed no visible bleeding or other abnormalitis... or there would have been no way he would have been cleared to fly home with the team. So, this is very encouraging news. I'm assuming, and hoping, that today in Eugene they are running a MRI brain scan, which will provide more detailed imaging of the brain that a CT does not show... along with them hopefully running Dante through a battery of other tests. And hopefully, Dante will bounce back soon, but for his long-term sake, I sure hope that they do not rush him, or that he does not rush himself. That's about the last thing a person with a significant concussion needs to have happen.

What are you missing? Oregon coaching just got good when they needed it most. That and the USC players were not getting out of bounds. Poor coaching on their part. They also were getting tackled short of first downs. Not a lot of sacks for the Ducks, but they did apply pressure that led to incompletes. Not too sure if the Oregon safeties are great at pass coverage, but the cornerbacks and nickel are really good at defending passes.

In the past, a weak west coast football would mean that the pac12 is like the mountain west. Now that the Ducks are in the big10, it doesn't degrade the conference as much. But Michigan is down. Penn St is down. Wisconsin is not much. West coast other than Oregon is weak. Nebraska never did anything after leaving the big12. Indiana is up, so that helps. They are still pretty good. This is pulling the big10 down far below the SEC, which is not a good thing. The best high school players want to play in the best conference. Think about that. If you are a star player, you can go to the big10 for Oregon or Ohio St and play one big game a year. You get a monster game almost every single week in the SEC. The big12 lost all of its star power, so the best kids are avoiding those teams like the plague. I would rather live in a world where Washington, Michigan, Penn St could make it to the national championship game. And one where Nebraska and UCLA are relevant and make the playoffs once in a while. If I want to be happy about teams sucking.... I save it all up for the SEC.

The more things change ... I attended the SC vs. Notre Dame in South Bend when the boys got into a fight in the tunnel at halftime. SC is undisciplined from the HC down to the towel boys.
