We Stink.....
How could they look SO much worse than they looked against suc?

We Stink.....
Talk about a double gut punch to the stomach. I was trying to get over the fact that Coach Altman suddenly announced his retirement and now this. This is the type of game that can get a team to unravel very quickly. Hope that Coach Lanning can turn this around soon. If not, this team will circle the drain with no stopping in sight. This also has implications for next season, too. If the losing continues, will recruits reopen their commitments? For all practical purposes, Oregon is playing in a bowl game this year. They are not going to run the table and make it to the CFP. Speaking of, would Duck fans like to see a 24 team CFP now? The Ducks would still have a chance for the playoffs even with this latest defeat.

Offensive Line Depth Chart: Where's the Problem?
I hate to say it but with all the non mathing math, it feels like the coaching staff is just cashing checks and mailing it in. It also feels like the highly paid NIL guys are doing the same. With NIL not being tied to actual performance, this has always been the danger in this scenario. Three out of four of Oregon's next games will be against two dangerous up and coming teams (Nebraska and Northwestern) and an old school road grader (tOSU). Things could get real ugly fast.

Offensive Line Depth Chart: Where's the Problem?
Non of it looks even 1 star and that's the question. It's hard to believe ten 4/5 star guys have all been so highly over rated. Even if some are, it's hard to believe you couldn't piece together a decent line out ten 4/5 star guys. It's hard to believe a coach with as much success as Terry couldn't get good results with 3 star guys. It's all hard to believe which is why I pose the question.

Oregon v Nebraska
The game's in Autzen. Nebraska is favored. Oregon + 6.5. A home under-Duck for the first time in many a moon.

Stein and Kentucky and Other Guys
Georgia vs Alabama. Head Coach Kirby Smart’s first Georgia season was 2016. Yesterday was Smart’s first regular season win over Alabama. He is now 1-3 in regular season vs Alabama in 11 seasons at Georgia.

Offensive Line Depth Chart: Where's the Problem?
Star rating??? Raiola was a 5 star, did he look like that yesterday to you? Did any of those linemen look 4 star?
Today

Stein and Kentucky and Other Guys
Will and the Wildcats set a record yesterday. 1st CFB team to win back-to-back OT games by 1 point. How about going 5 WRs wide and having your QB run a QB draw?

Offensive Line Depth Chart: Where's the Problem?
Here's the O line depth chart as listed in the forum links. I'm no O line expert so I don't know if some of the names aren't actually in this order or are injured or playing different positions than listed. But with that said based on this info. Where is the problem? Left Tackle Addison (So) 4 Star "Nacho" (Fr) 5 Star Left Guard Utu (So) 5 Star Rogers (Sr) 3 Star Center Laloulu (Sr) 4 Star Brooks (Jr) 4 Star Right Guard Iuli (Sr) 4 Star Bennet (Sr) 3 Star Manning (So) 4 Star Right Tackle Crader (Jr) 4 Star Tofi (Fr) 4 Star Wilson (Sr) 3 Star Stascausky (So) 4 Star Again, where's the problem? Sure there could be a bust here or there. That happens all the time but this roster is chalked full of 4-5 star guys clear across the line in the two deep. With this much talent you should be able to field a competent squad. If it's not the players then it has to be the coaching. Then I'd need it explained to me how the same coach that has put together award finalist lines year after year has suddenly forgotten how to do it. That just doesn't make sense. That would then lead to the plays being called. Are the schemes so bad that a star studded line with an elite coach all of a sudden can't block themselves out of a wet paper bag? What gives? I'm much more confused than angry. Can anyone explain the problem? The math just isn't mathing in my brain.

What happened?
Dylan Raiola threw three complete passes right on target during Oregon’s first possession of the ball; a first down pass to Dakorien Moore, a behind the line of scrimmage toss to Evan Stewart for a yard or so and a five-yard completion to Jalen Lott. His next seven passes were incomplete; some way too far, some way to short. two well defended and the others left or right of target. For the next two quarters he completed only passes behind the line of scrimmage and threw two abnormal interceptions. What caused the change in Dylan’s passes? I believe it happened when there was 1:46 left on the clock in the 1st quarter and Dylan threw into coverage, leaving him standing fully exposed. UCLA DL Amier Washington, arriving late, smashed Dylan to the ground, landing hard. The flag flew and roughing the passer was called. I was surprised that Dylan got up. From that time on Dylan Raiola was not the same player he was against USC two weeks earlier. I recognized it and told my spouse early in the second quarter that he should be replaced in the game. Why it took the Duck coaches two full quarters to recognize it is a mystery. Another mystery is why the official who threw the flag did not eject Washington from the game. His clear intent was to injure the Oregon QB. I have no idea whether Dylan was hurt physically, or mentally, or both. I have no doubt that hit from Washington changed the game.

We Stink.....
No one here wants to say it but Lanning has completely lost this team. He is so painfully out of his element that it's obvious to everyone but the die hard homers. Hefrich 2.0. What coach has done less with more? I wouldn't even keep him as DC...

Stein and Kentucky and Other Guys
This^^^^ I said the same thing to my wife during the game. The intensity was off the charts compared to the Ducks.

If Indiana Goes Down Today...
Deuce #2, is that an oxymoron?

Just for fun…New OC Candidate
To me until we get a better O line it doesn't matter who the OC is.

Stein and Kentucky and Other Guys
S. Carolina, following the loss to Kentucky, goes to Gainesville and thumps Florida 38-19. After a 4-0 start, No. 16 Florida is now 4-2. Florida's next four games are: at Texas, at Georgia (Atlanta), Oklahoma, at Kentucky.

When Calamities Collide
How in the world can you have a two deep of 4-5 stars and be this bad? How in the world can an O line coach that coached back to back Joe Moore award finalist lines coach this bad? Are the plays so simple they are just that easy to defend? Are they so complicated that the learning curve is too high. Have the players just been over hyped to the extreme? I need an Xs and Os master to explain it to me like I'm seven because I just can't grasp how this is happening. The desperate fuskies were slinging the ball all over the field against Iowa with a back up QB. The Beavers are setting team offensive records with a gutted program with little NIL. And the Ducks can neither run or pass the ball against anybody other than SUC or FCS teams. We're getting early 80's Ducks results with Pete Carrol level talent. This is the most bewildering Duck team I've ever seen.

Oregon v Nebraska
Yeah, I'll probably skip it. I hate night games, as I wake up early the next day no matter how late I get to bed. And I probably would not get home until somewhere between midnight and 1 am--and I live in Eugene!

Just for fun…New OC Candidate
I believe it was George Wrighster who suggested, before the USC game, that if Oregon struggled offensively, Coach Lanning should bring in an experienced offensive “analyst” (prior OC/HC) to help Coach Meh’ this year. Norvell would certainly be a top choice, if he is interested in working this year (vs. taking some time off to reset). I think he’ll get an offer to coach somewhere next season.

The Hype Train Departure Begins
A trend with a meaningful start during the previous year? That's a real stretch of logic. I don't mean that as a personal attack, there is is just no smoking gun for continuity of that trend between seasons. TT defense was one of the best in the country, and Indiana destroyed Alabama too, and our coordinators has one foot out the door. This season is simply bad because all players other than ST that were lost last year were replaced by a significant downgrade this year, and the same for the coaches. It's a fine line between success and failure and this tale of two seasons proves it, Penn State last year with so much returning production proved it. Small changes can have huge impacts. That also means things can be turned around quickly too. This will continue to be an up and down season. I'm hoping Hampton pans out based on his prior success and improved defensive performances (yes defense played good against an elite USC offense). Mehringer will probably be shown the door with one or two more inept showings, at we will hit bottom there.

When Calamities Collide
"the o-line was terrible" - I heard Geoff Schwartz on the radio this morning. Basically he said the same thing. He said the in-game dilemma the coaching staff had was every play somebody different was screwing up. They couldn't substitute out a guy having a bad game because there were too many guys screwing up. One guy would temporarily get "fixed", then another guy would screw up. He implied the o-line didn't run a clean play the whole game because somewhere along the line there was a screwup during the play.

What to Remember as a Member of This Forum After a Loss...
As a photographer on the sidelines for the last 17 years, I can only imagine how angry Duck fans are. It was one of the worst games I have photographed. Let's keep it in perspective though. The positive. Our defense showed up for this game. They held a very good UCLA offense to 17 points. I do not blame the players for the outcome, I blame the coaching. The poor play calling made a very good quarterback look like Donte Moore out there. I now know that Moore's struggles have not been because he cannot make decisions and see the field. It is coaching and playing calling.

Lanning's Post-Game Interview
Not to mention…opposing coaches seem to know what’s coming anyway so what do you have to lose?

Oregon v Nebraska
Nebraska fans are already grumping about the kickoff time: 10:00 pm Central. Claiming it is their latest game ever, surpassing a 9:30 at Fresno. But, they have played later than 10:00 CT when they had games at Hawaii. "the o-line was awful" - I heard Geoff Schwartz on the radio this morning. Basically he said the same thing. He said the in-game dilemma the coaching staff had was every play somebody different was screwing up. They couldn't substitute out a guy having a bad game because there were too many guys screwing up. One guy would temporarily get "fixed", then another guy would screw up.

Lanning's Post-Game Interview
The question that should have been asked... "What are you doing in practice...shots?" Maybe closed practices should be opened up. Let the media and fans scout. Self scout clearly isn't working
