Why Growing Your Own QB Has Died a Quiet Death
Helf did a game knows game in 2016 and hired David Yost (surfer looking dude) who is an elite QB coach, he'd put Blaine Gabbert into the 1st round before that. Of course, Wille came in and cut him loose and replaced him with Arroyo, so we downgraded about as far as we could.

Desperate times, Maryland going to a lottery for free tuition for staying to the end of the game. Maryland offers shot at free tuition for staying until 4th vs. Illinois - ESPN FYI, I think it was 1970 Jack Nicholson was directing a BBall movie, "Drive he said" (don't bother checking the Academy records) staring former UCLA star Mike Warren and Karen Black. For the crowd scenes in Mac Court, they lotteried a VW bug if you were there for all filming days. This was during the Nixon Cambodia crisis and there were student demonstrations on Agate Street. Tear gas and a new DuPont product, pepper gas, were deployed. Nicholson got his camera crew there to film and had Warren join the students. When all was said and done, Jack posted bail for all those arrested. After the Daily Emerald ran photos, DuPont offered $5,000 for the rights to the gassing photos for PR, which was politely turned down.

Why Growing Your Own QB Has Died a Quiet Death
Or has Oregon just not had an elite QB coach since Chip/Helfrich? Tedford was also a great QB coach.

I Am Planning To Drop My 24/7 Subscription
I dropped the 24/7 one ages ago. I have scoopduck at the moment. I had both briefly and I found scoopduck basically gave better insider information. However, the board can be pretty much the same few toxic people spewing the same lines. I rarely post on scoopduck and usually just lurk on the forum. I post all the time here though because this is way more fun.

Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
I like that Train, the smoke...leave to Charles🤣. Got love him and his humor. Hey, the Cars had a song, 'Shake It Up'. Looks like MONEY is not the answer. Maybe Excellent, dedicated, Fundamental Coaching is? Reading, '4th & Goal Every Day' about Alabama the their System. For any of us that wonder and don't know a lot of behind the scenes. For those of Us fooled by 4 and 5 star LABELS. This Book is fantastic. I don't know this, but I believe Oregon is WAY off regarding Athletes vs COACHING and COACHABLE. Huge THANK YOU to Charles for all of this AWESOME Site. I appreciate all the takes, all the theories.

I Am Planning To Drop My 24/7 Subscription
Well, you have been a great poster here already, and I would certainly welcome you for the long-term. We have three aspects that make this free site appealing for so many great Oregon fans.... 1) If there is any news about Our Beloved Ducks.....our Duck News Hunters bring the article links to this forum, so nobody will miss anything important. 2) And, as you know we are all "polite and respectful" to one another, even if we highly disagree. Hotly contested debate is encouraged where we focus on the topic, and not each other. And everybody knows about the "no politics" rule, which is especially important these days. 3) You do not see any ads appearing, and no frustrating pop-up videos or ads that disrupt your reading flow. That is worth a TON right there. I hope everyone enjoys this community as much as I do! I sure learn a lot from you all, and I try to provide my share of posting as well.

Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
However this season ends, both Lanning and fans need to be really open minded about potential candidates to fill the job before Spring Practice, but also preferably before signing day. There are a lot of guys on and off the radar which have little notoriety who could get the Ducks back into the Stein/Dilly level at least. Who is sheparding a highly ranked offense this season? Consistent with last season? How much of it is a once-in-a-decade QB, or how much is it the O-coord? This morning I was reading about Seth Doege at Arizona (now 6-1). Not saying he should be THE Oregon target, but rather who are guys like him out there without getting locked into a familiar name like Locksley?

It's Official: Dante's Season Is Over
Roper wasn't that bad after the UCLA debacle, he was really good in the bowl game, certainly doesn't deserve to be in the same conversation as Chris Harper.

Why Growing Your Own QB Has Died a Quiet Death
I guess you are right - we really shouldn't be so upset about how much these players make. After all, it's not our (at least my) money! Well, most of it ain't mine, even if I pay to watch the games on TV or at the stadium. It's uncle Phil and other big donors who should be upset.

Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
From an MSU fans Twitter, we can expect the following: Run up the middle on first down Run up the middle on second down Low percentage down field throw to boundary on 3rd down. Rinse and repeat. If you add in our wr screens, you are looking at 2017' gulf coast offense via Taggart all over again, minus Justin Herbert that could make those throws on a rope and an OL that could run block up the middle.

Why Growing Your Own QB Has Died a Quiet Death
Thanks for the terrific post. In 2026, transfer QBs have started games for Rutgers, Penn State, Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Washington, Oregon, UCLA, and USC, 77.77% of conference programs. In 2026, the only Big Ten team with two or fewer losses and playing a home grown QB is Minnesota. In the SEC, Georgia's Matthew Stafford, Texas's Archie Manning, A&M's Mercel Reed, and both of Tennessee's starting freshmen qbs are home grown. In 2026, transfer QBs have started games for Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt. In 2026, transfer QBs have started for 42 of the 68 FBS football programs, 61.8%. 2024-25 champion Ohio State, and 2025-26 champion Indiana, started transfer QBs. Will Howard and Fernando Mendoza were in the middle, not the top, of their respective group of QB transfers. Spot on noting that roster management today is a full time, year round job.

Why Growing Your Own QB Has Died a Quiet Death
I'd imagine that as part of the sales pitch to recruits, schools will start offering official accredited personal finance courses that include how to handle windfalls. There is nothing bad with paying players a market rate for the services they provide. If people think it's too much money then stop watching and buying gear so there isn't as much revenue to share with them.

Why Growing Your Own QB Has Died a Quiet Death
The best QB we've had since Marcus (Bo) came through the portal so it is possible. It's also highly possible you end up with a lemon here and there. Seems like the NIL / transfer era should have come with a "lower your expectations" waring.
