SDSU and UNLV are both in major sports media markets and are both R1 research schools. They both have potential to be solid contributors and fit well into the PAC-10 landscape. Neither adds value to the conference immediately, but the conference should consider them for their future potential. It is not like the PAC-10 is in a position of power right now. FSU, BSU and SMU? IMO, none of these other 3 schools should get any consideration: FSU & BSU - They have had some football success, which is why the names are probably floating out there. However, I think there is a 0% chance the Pac-10 adds these schools. They don't align with the other universities in the conference from an academic or Olympic sport standpoint. Not only are they not AAU Universities, they are not even R1 or R2 research schools. They do not increase the value of the conference or provide a significant increase in viewership. SMU - A religious school with a 30k seat stadium that is not within a reasonable footprint of the Pac-10. Throw in the fact that the Big-12 didn't offer in their last expansion, because they are not one of the 5 most watched college teams in Texas. There is a 0% chance that Cal and Stanford will agree to add SMU just for the religious part, let alone all the other issues that come with adding that school. I would argue that Colorado State, Utah State, and University of Nevada Reno should have a better shot than FSU, BSU, or SMU. Although, I have their chances at 0% right now too, but at least they kind of fit the profile of a typical Pac-10 membership school.

I’m not worried. We will get him back from the transfer portal next week.

Hard to imagine that Altman’s first team that had Jovan Catron as its best player could end up with more wins than this team filled with 4 and 5* talent by season end.

IIRC, Card has 3 years to play 2. If he has to sit behind Nix for a year, I am not sure that is a deal breaker. If you could sit behind a guy like Nix and not lose eligibility, then likely get the keys to one of the best offenses in college football for 2 years, I would think he would at least consider it maybe?

Moore is not winning the starting job next season at UCLA with Schlee and Martin in the fold.

I am probably the only guy on here that has Card ahead of Moore on my wish list. I would be happy with either, but if you asked me to choose, I would grab Card. Card can play ball. He had a 70% completion percentage last year and a 6:1 TD to turnover ratio. His QB rating last season was 158. He essentially threw for 1000 yards in 4 games. It’s not like he was throwing all short passes with almost a 9 yard average. Throw in that he is an explosive athlete and can move. He played WR his sophomore year in HS and was ranked one of the best athletes in 2020 class. On top of all that, Card has a relationship with Stein and we all saw how well that worked last season. Yes please!

Agree with this. The PAC should have pushed them out the door and and not scheduled another game with those two schools. Instead, the PAC rolled over and is allowing both USC and UCLA to keep their beach volleyball teams in the PAC conference after the transition to the BIG.

Oregon is still in a decent position if they can get healthy by conference play. They do not have a Q3 or Q4 loss. Just going to need to pick up a couple wins from the group of UCLA, AZ, Utah, and ASU and take care of business against the other schools. Hopefully they can get healthy and go on a run. On a side note, every single player on the team should have to wear a boot on their left foot as a precautionary measure when not on the court.

Whoa! This is a huge factor. I had no idea. You can’t afford to miss much. “Once you sign a portal transfer–you must honor his scholarship for his entire duration at your university, whether he contributes or not.”

So is there argument at this point that it might be better for some select programs to completely stop recruiting HS players? A lot of college programs are wasting a ton of resources, time and money over a 2-3 year period, only to have their best players decommit before signing day, not pan out, or transfer to a better program. I would think this would be a decent option for programs that are currently struggling and are looking to become competitive quickly. If you think about the the math, the percentage of incoming HS recruits at a lot of college programs that are getting meaningful snaps with their original college choice has to be decreasing each year. Why not dedicate all that time, money, and resources to the two portal windows and go get 20 or so proven players every year? Advantages: 1) The program could land players that have proven talent at the college level. 2) All the time, money, and resources used for recruiting HS players could be utilized to build a massive NIL program to increase hit rate for talented portal players. 3) The roster will be filled with mostly experienced players that made their early mistakes and 'learned on the field" at their previous school. 4) Transfers that come into the program will have used their 1-time transfer, so they are less likely to leave, which would increase stability for that program. 5) If you have HS players that want to come, you take them, but not at the expense of focusing on portal players. 6) You really only have to recruit for a couple of months instead of going after HS players for years. I don't think this is a good option for Oregon, but I can think of some programs where I would take this approach immediately if I was the head coach.

Smith for sure. Washington still has the 3rd most talented roster in the conference. They should be competitive with the top teams. What Smith is doing in Corvallis is amazing.

Bummer. I was really looking forward to Nix battling it out with Penix and Williams next year. We need a minimum of 1 QB transfer, maybe two now.
