Ouch! Pretty brutal article about the state of the men’s basketball program.

Ouch!

I’ve been a big Dana fan for years, but this has been like watching a bug swirling around in a toilet the last couple years, imo.

Half of what made Dana amazing was his ability to work with transfers (pre-NIL, etc) and find just the right guys to add to the mix. Now he’s just some guy amongst 100 other coaches doing the same thing, but with apparently less $$ than needed.

Ouch indeed, guys. Andrew Nemec doesn't sugarcoat it like some articles I've read. Just like last year's disaster, we could see another face plant for the next two years. This could happen if Dana Altman stays as Oregon's coach, unless he leaves after this upcoming season.

The article states that he refuses to hire a general manager, instead having his assistant coaches deal with the NIL. One anonymous source says the Ducks NIL issue is a 'hot mess'. Not something any Duck fan wants to hear. While I have always liked Altman, me thinks it's time to look for an up and coming new coach to turn this program around.

Andrew doubling down on this information. If this is accurate, this is far from good.

Makes you wonder where the AD has been? Seems like as an AD you have to be either all-in or all-out with your football/basketball HC? If there is money for a basketball GM, if you are Altman, why would you turn down the help? Odd.

Coach Kelly Graves plans to appoint Brielle Groen, currently the team's executive director, to a general manager type of role.

It is possible that those who took lots of NIL money from Oregon recently, and didn't deliver to the market value, are spinning a narrative as damage control on the way out the door.

Unnamed internal sources who corroborate the narrative sounds like thin soup to me.

Whatever the reason may be, the players we had last year weren’t assigned to us by some third-party entity. OBD evaluated and selected the roster, which was subpar at best, even before injuries imo.
