Big Ten HQ released a statement and a video that shows Michigan deserved the one second.

A Western Michigan defender came from out of bounds and made contact with the ball with one second left.

Western Michigan's response? In OOC games, refs from another conference should be brought in to eliminate bias.

Probably the worst optic for me on this game was watching Bryce Underwood strut around after the game like he had just won a conference title or playoff game.

The guy played awful all game and got a second chance at a Hail Mary AFTER throwing his first attempt out of the endzone.

ND, in many respects, I liked it better when you knew that refs would err and there was no replay.

But, according to the rules and the look the replay officials had, there was .01 seconds left when a W. MI. player who was out of bounds touched the football.

Any game time remaining under a second requires the clock to be set at one second.

It's OK; I think Michigan will lose Sooner than later. 😁

That is one of the more spectacular screw jobs I have seen in quite some time.

The optics on this are just so poor. especially given that Western Michigan pretty much dominated the game and clearly looked to be the better team on this day-and in a hostile environment at that. Hail to the victors...NOT!

NCAA changes replay timing protocol after Michigan's controversial win vs. Western Michigan

Under the new standardized protocol, the Broncos would have pulled off the upset of Michigan last week

In the wake of Michigan's controversial win over Western Michigan in Week 1, the NCAA has established a standardized protocol for timekeeping.

According to ESPN, NCAA national coordinator of officials Ron Snodgrass sent out a memo regarding a "standard timing protocol that ensures consistency in the administration of all college football games." The policy mandates that the clock embedded in the broadcast feed serve as the official clock for replay reviews.

"The official time for all college football games is the time displayed on the in-stadium game clock," Snodgrass said in the memo. "When a replay review requires time to be restored or otherwise adjusted, the replay official's decision will be based on the embedded game clock contained within the program feed. If the broadcaster is unable to provide an embedded game clock, the replay official will use the game-clock graphic displayed as part of the broadcast feed. This timing protocol should be followed consistently at all institutions and game sites."

On Saturday night, the game appeared to be over as Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood sailed a Hail Mary pass out the back of the end zone. The clock on the NBC broadcast displayed zero when a Western Michigan defender touched the ball out of bounds. 

However, upon reviewing, Big Ten officials determined that there was one second remaining. On the second Hail Mary, Underwood connected with JJ Buchanan in the front of the end zone to pull out a miraculous 13-12 win for the Wolverines.
