Bryce Underwood, An Oregon Transfer Target

Featured Replies

Don't shoot the messenger. I promise I am not trying to rage bait anyone given the season Bryce Underwood has had. Before you chew my head off, consider what buzz was surrounding a one, Dante Moore, in the fall of 2023 (Bust, Started Too Early, Overrated, Etc...). While it would take some strategic staff changes to reclaim our status as QBU, We have already proven the ability to take on reclamation projects and turn them into top tier talent. Let's hear your thoughts!

Could Bryce Underwood be Oregon's next former 5-star recl...

Dante Moore returning to Oregon for this season answered the question at quarterback in the short term, but this season was always going to be about potentially

Maryland fired their coach today. The Ducks were a recruiting finalist for QB Malik Washington who visited Eugene.

So, my thought? Way too early to be considering transfer QBs when it is only half-way thru the season.

I think by the end of the season it will be a foregone conclusion that Lanning fully intends to bring on a transfer to add competition to the room. He's done it every season he's been here.

No Way OBD should recruit and overpay this guy.

The TE room is in good shape, and the money is needed for a capable OC, the D-line and O-line guys from the portal, and to hold on to the talented youngsters.

Not going to shoot you, but bend over and assume the position! 🤬

No. I'm not down with/Bryce. If Whit pulled him at halftime, that's all I need to know. We know how good of a coach he is...

Seems like a bad idea to me, the $ would be better spent on the O-line.

I'd argue that bringing in an experienced, accomplished QB coach should happen before recruiting another QB transfer.

Wonder if Joey Harrington would volunteer.

I'd rather have the kid from Oklahoma State than Bryce Underwood. Not saying that kid is going anywhere, but I'd take him over BU.

Dante Moore has one more year of eligibility. If Lanning can find capable OL players in the portal or by coaching up, it might be better for Dante to return for another season.

His draft stock has dropped. His support on O is missing. It's tough to be a QB if your team cannot run the ball.

I'd much rather spend on offensive line and defensive line anchors along with a lights out inside linebacker.

That happened with very competent OC/QB Coaches in Dillingham and Stein. From what I’ve seen this season, Merringer and Ka’ai would just make him worse. Furthermore, why would I want a QB like Underwood when I already have Smith Jr. on my roster?

Also might want to bring in an OC that 4/5 star dudes can trust before offensive portal shopping.

I’m not saying I’d want him either. I do not believe the current staff on offense can elevate our current QB room, let alone someone in need of a reset like Underwood. Just the thought experiment of it all proves how much work Lanning has to do on his staff in the offseason.

If DL shows he can put the right people in the right places on his staff I fully believe it would be in Dante Moore’s best interest to stay one more season. Although at this point he could actually slide to a decent team instead of the Browns.

I don't hate that idea...not sure how he is as a teacher but he certainly has all the college and NFL experience for a solid educational foundation.

Underwood has a ton of talent. I think it would be irresponsible to not do a deep dive into what that would look like. I fully expect Lanning to do exactly that. Anything less is malpractice.

Gotta get the O line right priority one. But underwood in Eugene would be a huge addition. Just like Bo, DG and Moore.

DR just went through the biggest learning moment of his career. He will come out the other side and work himself into a first round QB next year with Underwood waiting in the wings.

Yea, I would slide Underwood into the model Oregon has created at the QB position. How could you not.

I respectfully disagree.

Bryce is bringing down an estimated $3 million a year in direct revenue sharing and NIL deals.

In 2026, his QBR rating is 53.3, 77th in the nation. In six games, he's thrown 5 TD passes and 6 interceptions. Michigan is 16th in the Big Ten in Points Per Game.

What kind of pay cut is he willing to take? Which coach on Oregon's staff could coach him up to perform like the nation's best QB recruit?

Does he have what it takes to play QB in the Power 2? I think this would be a B1G and a costly gamble.

In 2027, Oregon has to find and pay talented O-line players and replace four starters on the D-line. If a team can't run the ball in the Power 2, no QB will make much of a difference.

In 2027, Oregon plays Iowa, Ohio State, and Penn State at home. And plays five B1G games on the road: Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, UCLA, and UW.

Not the schedule you want for a QB to learn on the job.

In 2027 DR will be QB1 most likely. Underwood would be QB2.

There has been a lot of scandals at Mich. They have a lot of challenges for sure.

I can't put that all on Bryce Underwood. He was a freshman last year when all the shenanigans happened.

But he is super young. The #1 QB in his class. 6'4" and 230lbs.

I take the risk if he will agree to terms. I just don’t see how you cant.

I could see him getting a quiet restart to his career at Northwestern under Chip Kelly. Fewer eyeballs, less pressure.
