Not that surprising.

In truth he probably shouldn't have come back this year.

No.

Hope he moves off the sidelines, just in case he might get hurt.

Lanning talked about scout team (controlled and protected)

The season has gone from farce to parody.

I feel sorry for Dante coming back on whim and having it blow up so spectacularly. It should be clear to the scouts he wasn't getting coached properly and certainly being cheap shot out of a season doesn't make him injury prone.

I hope he falls to the mid to late part of the draft to a great team. I not super optimistic about his chances in the NFL given his inability to process his entire field of vision, but he's a good dude that has done things the right way and deserves a shot at the next level.

And regardless of how things turn out he will make more money than he could ever hope to learn how to spend.

Very saddened to learn this, but also not very surprised.

What an absolutely insane season this has turned out to be. Just unbelievable.

Its not unbelievable its just Football. Its not a contact sport its a collision sport.

Well, allow me to clarify... it's obviously not literally 'unbelievable'.

But I'm somewhat confident that I'm not the only guy who didn't anticipate the season unfolding the way it has. Frankly, the way this season is/has played out wasn't remotely on anyone's radar.

Dante for OC, he already making more money than most OCs and he knows the play book. What the heck might as well give it a go what do we have to do in lose.

No.

He didn't seem to be as good as everyone thought, anyway. DR wasn't the only one missing wide open recievers.

Some halfway decent QB will want to come to Eugene...

It has been mentioned many times on this site and I will throw my hat into that ring as well.

I miss the days of a dual-threat QB. ASJR is just that.

Why don't we see what we have there?

I know we paid DR and maybe knowing that the job is his to lose will motivate him...or maybe this is just the version of DR that exists.

I realize that they may be trying to preserve a redshirt, or maybe he isn't great at reading complex defenses...who knows. How 'bout we give him the ball and say, "go do what you do".

Agreed.

I am so done with hearing that AS Jr isn't that good. If he had gone to Illinois instead of Oregon the story would have been a four star redshirt freshman QB winning the game instead of a true freshman 3 star. Why does it seem like Oregon needs five star QBs to play great when just about anybody we play can throw in back up three stars and do just fine?

It is hard to believe that every QB the UO has recruited since Herbert in 2016 has sucked. How can it be that Rich Brooks in the 80's with god awful offenses could still recruit better QB's like Chris Miller and Bill Musgrave than a perennial top 10 team with outstanding offense year after year? How? HOW?

Nearly every QB the Ducks recruited and started from Miller through Dennis Dixon at least got drafted in the NFL (1984-2007). Since then they have mostly relied on transfers. Something really doesn't add up.

It is a different landscape today than in the early years. Indiana, UCLA, USC, Miami, Notre Dame, hell even Kentucky all have transfer QB’s. Few true freshman or even RS Freshman can take you to a championship. The Ducks are going to continually recruit the portal for QB’s. Next year will be no exception. Will Mencl may never see the field until 2030. He won’t stay around that long. Just the way it is.

No.

Does Ty Thompson ring a bell? Everyone was clamoring for him when MC was HC. That didn't work out very well. He transferred and still wasn't the starter. I agree let Akili take the field but I'm not holding my breath over it.

Before Jeremiah Masoli, before Akili Smith, I think the 'modern era' Duck QB started with the Rich Brooks' 1980 squad and Reggie Ogburn (props to Brooks for being desperate enough to think outside the then proverbial drop-back QB box).

The guy was a 5'9", 190 lb dripping wet, 4.5 40, dual threat, JC transfer who came out of nowhere and shredded the Pac-10 at quarterback. He probably would have been the equivalent of a 2 star recruit.

Then, a local guy who was considered highly risky recruit by the name of Chris Miller, showed up and went on to have a storied Duck career -- and a fine NFL career as well.

We also, once upon a time, found a 3 star QB recruit from some island in the Pacific, that no other teams seemed to be very interested in.

Then, in I believe 2016, we had some other local 3-star kid practically walk on, that no other D1 school was interested in. I believe he ended up getting a max contract in the NFL. (that's two stud QBs from Eugene's Sheldon High School that almost nobody was interested in).

Looking back, I'm a bit amazed at how some of the greatest QB talent we've ever had seemed to practically drop in our laps from seemingly almost out of nowhere.

Best of fortune to Dante Moore. A fine young man.

I'd do a thorough review of the offseason and the errors made that translated into a very disappointing, bordering on a historically disappointing, regular season.

In today's CFB, you cannot lose the offseason and compete for championships. Texas A&M, with its starting QB not injured, made the same kind of offseason mistakes and is also experiencing a season out of Hades.

Conversely, Will Stein perfectly mined the portal, including the O-line position, and has Kentucky winning the closest of games and is on top of the SEC.

As Urban Meyer and many others have noted, O-line today is the toughest position to recruit to and develop, and quality O-line starters out of the portal are gold. Three O-line players who transferred to Oregon were part of a 2025 Joe Moore Award finalist line and are on NFL rosters.

Accordingly, and as others have noted above, a dual-threat QB, or at least a QB who can run the ball when necessary, is more of a necessity than a luxury.

Dylan Raiola was not the answer at Nebraska, and he's not the answer in Eugene.

Anyone who has gone through at least the last 20 Duck seasons will recall 2007 when we were right in the middle of a national title fight when leading Heisman Trophy contender quarterback Dennis Dixon went down with a knee injury against Arizona State, and an 8-1 team finished by losing their last three games.

As painful as this year has been; quite honestly, it can’t even come close to the devastation felt at that time. And, that’s but one example that wasn’t on anybody’s radar.

Regarding AS Jr, I’m as willing as anyone to give him a chance. The proof in the pudding will be the first time his legs won’t cut it, and he faces a 3rd down and long yardage.

No.

There's a reason Ty Thompson and Austin Novosad never started for us. They transferred out and neither (I believe) wound up being a starter at their new school.

Is ASJ the same? He's obviously a fan favorite, especially for those of us old enough to watch his dad. If DL thinks he's not ready I get it, but what we probably know at this point is that DM, DR or BT won't be starting for us next year. Why not give him a shot? This season is a bust and I'm not seeing that there's anything to lose. We most likely will be looking to the portal for next year's starter anyway.
