Yesterday at 03:52 AM1 day Administrator No. I wrote a pinned post about going too far with the negative, with venting, etc. recently. And it sure appears that my contention that some people are negative people....just are that way-has been soundly proven. Some of them became innovative with their insults to the Ducks; discussing the obvious negative is fine, but going over-the-top several times?Notice all the traffic we had after a loss? Note how much it declined after a win? There are a great many people who posted after losses, but when we win and do many good things--do they post then? No.We have a number of great posters who give opinions BOTH positive and negative, and some of them are new. I hope all you will continue to do that, and as for those who we only hear from when it is negative? If We Lose to Ohio State....I'm Sure We'll Hear From You Again! (Right?)Oh my.... Mr. OBD

Yesterday at 05:53 AM1 day No. So what if people vent, and are more active following a loss? It’s called emotion and far more emotions (blowing off steam) happen following losses. You can pick apart a loss far easier than a win.More fun to win but there will be fewer interactions. Just normal behavior.
Yesterday at 06:49 AM1 day No. I don't think it is just losing, but how and why they are losing. This season's OC promotion, the offensive style with Cristobal, the Brady Hoke disaster will bring out a lot of posts and rightly so. But I totally agree that when things turn around (and they always do) that we should see the same peeps giving street cred for the comeback. Or else why are you here? It has been a tough year and the toughest game is next up. So even if the Ducks lose, if they can show they are improving the x's and o's, fighting hard, knowing their assignments, and showing pride and mojo in what they do, there should be some good posts supporting the cause. But on the other hand, if they are lost and totally unprepared like the Ok St game, then I can't expect too much from my fellow fishduck homies. Some of it is on them.

This is a very astute group of people, but I have a hard time conveying the difference between discussing negative, versus going over-the-top negative and venting. We have a rule against venting No. 31, and suggest people read No. 31a, also, 31b especially, and 31d.My concern is that those who have great observations that are negative will not post, as they don't understand that I want the negative posts, but not the innovative insults and the venting. We've been through this before with the final year of Cristobal, and the year of losing to the Huskies twice....was quite a meltdown for some. Again negative is fine, as that is what we do in a forum. And I have certainly not only participated in posting negative, but made jokes in the process. You are a great example of posting both ways, and I appreciate that. It gives you much more credibility with your negative posts when you post positive along with them. And I understand that some years, like this one, we are going to have a ton more negative posts. It is the way it is, and I've tolerated a TON more than I prefer, but since they did not break the rules....I let them all stay.It was observation on my part about human nature, as being a moderator for thousands of posts--I've learned a ton about our tendencies over the years. Yesterday at 05:12 PM1 day No. I love the interaction of the positive and negative. It makes for great discussions in the threads. It is the very part of the fabric woven into a true forum. The foundation for a great forum. One simple rule drives this Forum. Respect for others! There are plenty of sites that allow posters to denigrade, criticize and crush other people's posts. The more negative the better. The team losing, playing poorly or not bringing the A+ game makes it easier to criticize. That criticism is fueled by passion and sheer disappointment. I cannot stress my absolute and heartfelt disappointment over the course of the season. To make it worse were the fans jumping off the bandwagon and the vile criticism toward the players and the coaches. Many posters expressed those feelings on the Forum. And did it within the rules. Including Duck homers, honks and those that live and breath all things Ducks. And I love that and look forward to all those posts. This is where the rubber meets the road. IMHO some of those, who criticize the Ducks, absolutely want no criticism sent back in their direction. If you can't take it, don't dish it out comes to mind.Perhaps there are those that only want to post when the Ducks fail or lose. This Duck fan loses no sleep if they don't post.My concern is over those who don't post because they might have gotten their feelings hurt thru well presented, differing view points. Those differing view points are so welcome, as long as they are respectful of others. Support your view points and refute the view points that disagree. No reason to stop posting. There have been some viscious, hateful posters on the Forum over the years that Charles and the moderators had to block from the site. They didn't like the rules.I hope those who only like to criticize and complain keep posting. Play nice, take your medicine and strengthen the conversation.I wonder would it hurt you to find and post something nice and positive about the Ducks. There was a great deal of positive from the Noryhwestern game. The duck coaches and players improved in alot of areas that many of you NegaDucks were complaining about.Just saying!
Yesterday at 05:23 PM1 day No. It was great to see the Ducks come back after a 14 point deficit. To me that is the mark of a good team.Win or lose Ill be a fan until they burry me. Edited yesterday at 05:35 PM1 day by 1Ducker1 spelling

23 hours ago23 hr No. I’ve certainly had my pessimism given how the season has progressed, but I actually avoid all media for a few days after a loss. Media and social media overall go heavily negative after a loss, and I find disengaging to be healthier for me than wallowing in it. It’s easier to wait out the wave of catastrophizing if I never engage with it.
23 hours ago23 hr No. I self-censor. Meaning, if we lose or I disagree with a playing philosophy, I don't post for a few days while I meltdown. If we win, I figure I don't want to jinx the team, so I don't post to celebrate, or boast.But...I am always lurking and reading.

If it doesn’t, it seems to me there is no interest in finding solutions, but only blaming. It’s true that winning only teaches you two things: that you’re doing something right and you like it. Losing teaches you everything else, but you have to want to learn from it, not just vent.
19 hours ago19 hr No. Perhaps they are waiting to see which team shows up next week, the week after that, etc.?The team that showed up against USC or UCLA? The team from the first half or the second half of the Northwestern game?I gave props to the players for not giving up at the end of the Northwestern game thread. The interim OC also deserves props, based on post game analysis, it seems like he reduced the progressions that Riola had to make and let him rip it.Anyway people want to slice it, this is a lost season and it started with the hiring of the OC and evaluation of the OL room. I’m watching to see how the team improves and which young players step up. Edited 19 hours ago19 hr by OregonDucks

19 hours ago19 hr No. Fact is we're fans. We aren't on the field, playing. Or coaching. And we probably got used to seeing the Ducks win.Seeing them lose as they have recently has triggered a lot of emotion. But there's little chance any of us will be putting on a uniform and showing everyone how an offensive lineman should operate. Those days are over for most of us. None of us will be climbing in the box calling plays, either. The only outlet fans have is talk. Talk IS our game. And shouting at the tv accomplishes very little other than sending the rest of the family into hiding. The great thing about this forum is that we can do all our talking—not shouting—among people with the same interest, the same loyalty. That's a lot better than doing it in the local bar or at work ... where we might run into SUC or SUCKeye fans. Fights have been known to break out in those situations. In a way, Charles has afforded us a safe space. And those of us who aren't coaches can get a pretty decent football education just by listening.

It’s occurred to me on more than one occasion that fans’ passions for their teams can verge on substance abuse when winning ways suddenly go south. I love those warm, feel good Sundays following a Duck victory. The whole day just kind of floats. But, the opposite is true with an unexpected loss - painfully raw nerves.Because of that, I kind of feel for Duck fans who’ve only known the winning. It’s the losing that gives you balance and perspective, and without the lows, there’s no highs.

2 hours ago2 hr No. I have been on sabbatical from here since 9/6/26 because of this very phenomenon. Sometimes the hyper focus on one specific element can feel like ranting, but I get why it happens…but it made me lose interest.A recent example of “hyper” focus that cracked me up a bit while peeking in was the focus of a thread or two (prior to the first official rankings being released) on winning the conference championship as being the only path to the playoff. I am, and was, pretty sure our best path forward is to win out and NOT even play in the championship game. It is almost 💯 certain there will be multiple 9-3 teams in the field this year, and given how the season has unfolded, if we somehow managed to win out, we’d probably be in.Suddenly the first official rankings come out, and oh, look at that, we be ranked.Anyways, I’m sure I’ll end the sabbatical eventually, but everyone keep the OBD faith burning. Starting next year we probably will have an 8-4 make the expanded tournament, so we won’t have to collectively crash and burn if we start out 4-2 😆 Edited 1 hour ago1 hr by JabbaNoBargain

1 hour ago1 hr No. For a lot of "fans", of a lot of different sports, the illusion is that if you don't go undefeated, blow out opponents by double digits, have multiple top "draft choices", and win the championship every year, then the season is a bust!I get it, I understand it, and in a world that tends to beardown daily on people's lives who are just looking for a consistent "win" or "winner" in their lives, get highly frustrated when the plans and prognostications fail them. For me, l at least, following my "favorite teams" is a pastime, a break, a non serious distraction from the grind that each day/week/month provides. But I always try to keep my fandom in perspective and try to appreciate what it provides as a release and a comaradity with fellow fans. Not to say I don't get frustrated or even angry at substandard results but in the perspective of our lives, fandom should NOT get one so worked up that they lose the fun in just appreciating high level play by highly skilled and talented human beings in an arena of competition. Even if you don't "win" in the end.To quote a character played by the late, great, Sir Patrick Stewart..."It is possible to commit NO mistakes and still Lose. That is NOT a Weakness. That is simply Life."Enjoy what you can and let the unenjoyable roll off your back like any good Duck will do.🦆🏈🪨's Edited 1 hour ago1 hr by MicroBurst61

29 minutes ago29 min No. My negativity is usually short lived. Successive games of poor play and coaching compounds and extends the half life though.Something I am finding more difficult to move past is the institution of CFB as a whole. I am pretty frustrated with the direction the college game is going. The further down the road we go, the more it seems to infect all involved in the game. Especially at the player level.
19 minutes ago19 min No. After a tough loss I don't read anything, just ignore all the rehashing. I have a hard time getting too low because like many of you, we have followed the ducks when a 4 win season was great, the dream of a bowl game was just that, a dream. I also understand the expectations have changed, for good reason. After a loss I just think back about all the games we lost 45-0, and then I feel better. We are relevant every year, that is what I feel is important.I looked back but I didn't see this play talked about, if it was just ignore this part of the post. It was a "12 man on the field" type play. It was at the end of the UCLA game. UCLA had just ran for 8 yards on first down so it was 2nd & 2 at the 2 min warning. Oregon had to stop them from getting 2 yards or the game would be over cause they would have run out of time outs. Instead what Lanning did was have Uliagalelei reach over and touch the Offensive lineman for off sides and to give them a first down. Now they had 10 yards to go and they didn't t use a time out. They stopped them and got the ball back. If they hadn't done that they would never got the ball back. He gave his team a chance to win, just what a good coach is supposed to do.
