  2. Washing out at 2 consecutive OC positions is why he's stuck as an assistant QB coach. DL has to turn to him because apparently there just isn't any other choice.
  3. Welcome to the Dan Lanning Experiment 2026
  4. Eisenhower had Patton and McArthur We should carve out 2.5 million for each and go make a run at these hires! We already are spending a ton of money on a roster and the HC, spend the rest and get the Natty winners on staff! Mike Locksley was Bamas OC before he got the Maryland HC job. Won the 2017 title as CO-OC under Saban, in 2018 he was the OC and won the Broyles award. He has as years of experience, about a decade calling plays. Just got fired as Maryland HC. Dave Aranda won a Natty at LSU with Ed Orgeron and has years of experience, about a decade as well as a DC. Broyles award nominee in multiple years/schools and was the games highest pad OC when he was at LSU. Just got fired as Baylor HC. Problem solved, we aren't showing up in the playoffs looking not ready to play and getting out coached. Let's roll out the Lanning school of former HC's rehabbing their careers like Saban did at Bama.
  5. You have to be kidding. My friends, I have finally answered that long ago framed philosophical question. "THERE APPARENTLY IS NO LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL."
  6. It's not really that surprising that we don't really have anyone with experience calling plays, this is fine as a stop gap, we aren't going to get much better with the personnel that we have at QB and the O-line.
  7. I hear Dante Moore is available, between Lanning's kids and him we could have something.
  8. Dante for OC, he already making more money than most OCs and he knows the play book. What the heck might as well give it a go what do we have to do in lose.
  9. He was Mel Truckers OC at Colorado and went with him to MSU. Mel had that big year with Kenneth Walker III and got that huge $95 million extension and then Mel got himself fired for cause and didn't get his buyout. When Mel got that stupid extension, it was the start of it all going stupid!! James Frankilin got his big extension, LSU hired Brian Kelly for over $100 million, Riley got $100 million at USC. Miami bought out Mario and gave him like $85 million. Now players move every year, some get $5-mil a year and NIL rosters are up to $40 or 50 mil
  10. Sure is a lot ugly comments on Non-Ducks message boards from people who know nothing about his medical condition, including recent reports of Dante having recurring vision issues.
  11. And why would a buch of multi year 4 and 5 star OLs that are bad at their jobs NOT be coach Terry's fault??? Regression is ALWAYS a coaching problem. Dante regressed, Brock Regressed and DR regressed. The guidance to QBs to maximize the plays called is on the OC too. I'm not casting aspersions at a single player until this roster of offensive coaches complete turns over.
  12. Put Jorgy in the booth with Johnson. Jorgy can remember a lot of ugly Ducks play calling and might be able to coach Johnson about what to avoid.
  13. The first 18 mil is like 20 time more important than the next 30 mil. The extra money gets so irrelevant so quick. It's way more important to get a chance to play on a good team.
  14. Well, allow me to clarify... it's obviously not literally 'unbelievable'. But I'm somewhat confident that I'm not the only guy who didn't anticipate the season unfolding the way it has. Frankly, the way this season is/has played out wasn't remotely on anyone's radar.
  15. Jeez man. Out of the frying pan and into the fire. I can't believe we didn't have anyone on our roster to call plays that doesn't have a history of sucking at doing it. Things aren't going to magically get better here. Frankly the best strategy going forward is to put the play sheet on a poster and have one of Lanning's kids throw darts at it. Or just have the position coaches take turns calling plays for a half. At least that would give us the element of surprise. I'm not really joking.

  17. According to AI, which knows more than I do, there is a huge salary difference between being the 3rd overall pick in the NFL draft as a QB compared to the 25th pick. If the all-knowing AI is correct, it may behoove Dante to come back next fall. AI Overview The pay difference between the 3rd and 25th overall NFL draft picks is roughly $31.8 million in total 4-year contract value, or about $7.95 million more per year for the 3rd overall pick. [1] Draft Slot Total 4-Year Contract Value Average Annual Value (AAV) Year 1 Cap Number (Approx.) No. 3 Overall ~$50.54 million ~$12.63 million ~$9.19 million No. 25 Overall ~$18.76 million ~$4.69 million (Lower proportional scale) Difference ~$31.78 million ~$7.94 million/year —
  18. Its not unbelievable its just Football. Its not a contact sport its a collision sport.
  19. A snippet of Johnson's history as a play caller: Michigan State (2020–2023): Outside of a brilliant 2021 season anchored by Doak Walker Award winner Kenneth Walker III, Johnson's offenses in East Lansing heavily struggled. By 2023, the Spartans finished near the bottom of the Big Ten in nearly every major offensive metric, leading to widespread fan frustration over predictable sequencing Wyoming (2024–2025): Handed the reins to the Cowboys' offense, his tenure was short-lived. Following highly predictable play-calling—often criticized by fans for an over-reliance on standard inside zone runs out of the shotgun regardless of the down-and-distance—Johnson was fired midway through the 2025 season. Lanning has stated that the offensive strategy moving forward into the Northwestern game will be a "collaborative effort" across the entire offensive staff rather than putting the entire system on Johnson's shoulders. Could be interesting. Could be a dumpster fire. Which is most likely?
  20. AI: The landscape of how NFL front offices value concussed players is actively shifting as medical baselines and scouting protocols have tightened. [1] A major test case for this scenario is unfolding right now with Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore. Widely projected as a potential top first-round pick, Moore suffered a severe concussion from a late hit against USC on September 26, 2026. On October 26, 2026, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning officially announced that Moore will miss the rest of the season. Because Moore was previously viewed as a top-3 to top-10 lock, draft analysts like Mel Kiper Jr. have already adjusted his stock to No. 25 overall on active big boards. How early Moore is selected in the upcoming NFL Draft will serve as the most modern benchmark for how teams weigh late-season collegiate concussions against elite potential. [1, 2]
  21. Johnson played quarterback for the FCS U Northern Iowa Panthers from 1989 to 1992. In 1992, he was second-team all-conference. In his final three seasons, he was the starting quarterback, leading UNI to three straight playoff appearances. One of his backups for these three seasons was future NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner. In those four seasons the Panthers were 8-3, 8-4, 11-2, 12-2. Since 1994 he has been part of staffs at Missouri, Kansas, So. Miss, Louisville, C. Michigan, Minnesota, Georgia, Colorado, Mich State and Wyoming. The last outpost was Wyoming where the Cowboys were 3-9 in 2024 including a win in Pullman, and 3-4 when he was fired in 2025. He joined Oregon in March 2026. Johnson is the only Oregon staffer with significant offensive play calling experience, with stops at Louisiana-Lafayette, Minnesota, Colorado, Michigan State and Wyoming. "He’s also coming in with a different perspective and a different view, not being with us the last few years," Lanning said. "He can provide a couple of things that might be different than what we’ve done that I think can trigger some success for us on that side of the ball." Work has already begun to identify Oregon's next full-time offensive coordinator, though Lanning doesn't expect that to be finalized any time soon. "I don’t think an announcement is gonna happen right around the corner," Lanning said. "Again, to think that you’re not always preparing for moments like that, I think would be wrong, too. So there’s an awareness, there’s an evaluation process. You want to be really thorough as you go through that. Is that going to be occurring over the next few weeks, months? Yes. Does that mean that we make an announcement tomorrow? It just doesn’t really fit with the cycle of football."
  22. Very saddened to learn this, but also not very surprised. What an absolutely insane season this has turned out to be. Just unbelievable.
  23. I feel sorry for Dante coming back on whim and having it blow up so spectacularly. It should be clear to the scouts he wasn't getting coached properly and certainly being cheap shot out of a season doesn't make him injury prone. I hope he falls to the mid to late part of the draft to a great team. I not super optimistic about his chances in the NFL given his inability to process his entire field of vision, but he's a good dude that has done things the right way and deserves a shot at the next level. And regardless of how things turn out he will make more money than he could ever hope to learn how to spend.
  24. The season has gone from farce to parody.
