Week 1 - 91 Games and 1 Top 25 vs Top 25 Matchup - But B1G Games Will Be Played - Hurrah!
That game was BRUTAL. What do you call a team with no O and no D?------Rutgers.

Week 1 - 91 Games and 1 Top 25 vs Top 25 Matchup - But B1G Games Will Be Played - Hurrah!
The Big Ten conference suffers its first loss of the season as 28.5-point favorite Rutgers was spanked tonight by the MAC's UMass Minutemen. https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/massive-underdog-umass-ravages-rutgers-012127361.html The Rutgers d (not worthy of a capital d) still stinks, and the No Good Knights O was stymied by a team that CBS Sports ranked 138th out of 138 FBS football teams. What in Hades is Rutgers doing with the money? The best DC Schiano could hire was a guy from FCS South Dakota State? Relegate these bums; swap Rutgers for UVA or, perhaps, UMass? UMass was defeated, going 0-12 in 2025, and with this win, broke a 16-game losing streak. BRUTAL!

We Still Aren't Going to get a Lot of Sacks This Year
Something I think gets lost in these discussions is the youth of the 25' Ducks. They were one of the youngest teams in the power 2 (4). That alone thins the playbook. Can both Ify O and Finney be trusted to be put on an island and lock down. I think they can. Both are dudes. Adding Koi and Flowers coming into his sophomore year is a huge advantage. This secondary is poised to absolutely smother opposing pass catchers. I loved Bryce but he was good for 3 yards after contact. Frustrating. If LB can shore up the run a little better and stuff the rd in the gap? It will take some pressure off the front 4. They can stunt a little more or pin their ears back and get after it. The year of experience with All the starters coming back ( not replacing all the starters) opens up the playbook dramatically. So for me, havoc plays at the LOS doubles including sacks 🙏🙏🙏

We Still Aren't Going to get a Lot of Sacks This Year
In the big games OSU & INDY both their qb's were able to move around without a lot of pressure, and find guys. Containment is always risky with top notch qb's. I certainly hope we start to see more sacks and fewer third and long completions for 1st downs.

I was thinking the same thing, with one small modification. I was thinking that's the uniform the Ducks should wear while winning the Natty!

We Still Aren't Going to get a Lot of Sacks This Year
With four year now to judge, I think it is fair to suggest (not unlike Kirby), Dan is at his core a pretty conservative coach (efficiency offense, bend-but-don't-break defense). I think that is what we should expect to continue to see, even with coordinator changes. I also expect more sacks and pressures this year (as well as more vertical passing success); but, more from individual talented/experienced players making more plays, than any significant coaching, scheme, or play-calling changes. With a talent composition rating on 247 of #3 (and I have argued #2 when just looking at probable two deeps), it is not an unreasonable choice (don't risk shooting yourself in the foot by taking many risky calls, instead sum up and rely upon the benefit of winning a greater percentage of individual battles over the course of a game). Dan doesn't loose to teams with talent disadvantages, and really neither do Smart or Day. The open question is will Dan adjust at all against the other 10%? Makes me think a bit about Nick Aliotti. A guy often know as very bend-but-don't-break. I always though, while I understood the rep, Nick was always willing to dial up the pressure and take risks when he had talent advantages (or at least guys he trusted). I am not sure we have seen Dan do that too often yet? I've seen a couple breakdowns of the Indiana games this offseason showing guys regularly open but Dante running around with pressure in his face unable to find them. This D appears to loathe risking those open guys (and that's kind of how most of college football plays it in 2026). Indiana was interesting because often they didn't appear so worried (maybe Texas Tech too but I haven't see enough of them to really offer that observation with confidence). A working theory on Cignetti is he is recognizing and taking advantage (on a calculated basis) of patterns of conservatism (on both sides of the ball) that have crept into the college game today.
