Are We Sure A Three Loss Team Won't Make the Playoffs?
I see several 9-3 teams making the playoffs, because there won't be enough Power 2, 10 and 2 or better teams. If we were to win out which includes beating Ohio State, we would be in consideration for sure. It's just not really in the cards with the under coached talent we have. Just changing the OC won't be enough.

Brother, can you spare me a dime? Will Fisch stay on the UW line? The administration was not happy that Fisch blamed the 2026 football woes on the budget. https://uwhuskieswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/huskies/football/2026/10/26/uw-football-washington-huskies-jedd-fisch-danny-sprinkle-uw-mens-basketball-big-ten-pat-chun/92427988007/

The Question Isn’t Who Dan Should Hire...
I believe Chip Long is an off-field analyst at Louisville. I recognize the list in this thread had a premise of prior connection with Lanning. But, I would prefer Oregon pursue an assistant with several years experience. It was pretty apparent that whomever was in the booth this season did not know how to adjust to what the defense was doing. That talent comes with years of experience seeing various defenses in real time. That talent also is needed in game prep during the week. Will Stein hired Justin Burke from UTSA. Burke is 38, so whiskers is not always necessary. But, experience or past proof of performance should be. The priority should NOT be "let's give the young guy a chance." At least not if you are hiring with aspirations of being near the top of the Big Ten.

Are We Sure A Three Loss Team Won't Make the Playoffs?
It starts by defeating No. 21 and woefully under-ranked Northwestern on Halloween. Ohio State is off this week, and the one-loss Buckeyes will be ranked in the top 5 when OBD visits Columbus in Week 10. Upset Ohio State before coming home to shred brand-name Michigan, stomp Michigan State in East Lansing, return home, and lay waste to Washington. And hope for utter chaos, including Notre Dame losing to Miami and SMU, and many 4-loss SEC teams. OK, I'm ready to wake up now. 🤪 But going on a five-game run with wins against ranked NW and Ohio State and a beatdown of Michigan would help hold the recruiting class together and hang on to the players Oregon wants to keep. Finishing in the PO committee's top 15 or so would encourage players in the portal to pick Oregon. There is still a lot to play for, not least of which is pride in yourself and in the program.

Are We Sure A Three Loss Team Won't Make the Playoffs?
Absolutely a possibility this year. There really are no dominant teams out there this year.

I know. I grew up in Boston. With a few guys named O'Leary. 😁 The reference was tongue-in-cheek. Good call, and Erin Go Bragh!

Are We Sure A Three Loss Team Won't Make the Playoffs?
Win the rest and Ducks might squeak into the conference championship game with an automatic bid on the line. I think that's more likely than getting an at-large bid. But to have a chance of winning out, Dante Moore must return vs. Northwestern.

An SEC three loss team will get in before one from the BIG.
-
Are We Sure A Three Loss Team Won't Make the Playoffs?
No Oregon with 3 losses won't get in. I would imagine there will be better 3 loss teams than Oregon. It would be an amazing coaching job if Lanning held things together and got the Ducks to 9-3. I just don't see the Ducks getting to 9-3 period.

Yikes... that's some out of control frustration right there. Who knew that our coaches nearly required a police escort just to get out of the elevator. On a positive note, these fans make us folks around here look downright tame and calm 😄

With Nothing to Play for It Only Gets Harder From Here.
If Dante returns, I think we win some more games. Heck... we might even be very surprised by the response and outcome we see from this group of kids. However, I also really fear for Dante. This concussion stuff (aka. brain damage) is serious business. I'm hoping our boys can provide him with the protection needed, and I'm hoping that the psychological impact of that hit doesn't carry over onto the field. I have to remind myself that we still have the pieces required to play some really good ball.

Marsh Duck - The Duck's Loss to Illinois is on Mehringer
When I said "little bit of time," I should have provided some definition for that. I'd say that Dan has at least through 2027 to get our program back on track. And, assuming that he is willing to learn from his mistakes -- which it appears that he does, he will definitely turn things back around. My humble prediction is that Lanning will end up going down in Oregon football history as a Football God.

We’re Spoiled, Suck It Up
I have not been one to call for Coach Lanning’s head but I questioned the decision to promote Coach Meh’ to OC from the moment it was announced and did not understand why he decided not to do a national search. He was a terrible OC at Rutgers. This season falls squarely on Coach Lanning - the OC decision and failure to properly evaluate the OL. I do believe that Coach Lanning has earned the right to right the ship and am thankful he made, what I am sure was a hard decision, to fire the OC. All coaches make bad hires, from time to time, but they realize those mistakes and correct them quickly. Hopefully he doesn’t skip the hiring process going forward.

CBS Reporting Mehringer Is Out
They need to bring someone in immediately who can SIMPLIFY everything the offense is doing—whether that’s a consultant, an interim coordinator, or even a high school coach looking for a gig. When you have highly rated, 6'5", 340-pound linemen who can't consistently get you one yard of push, you don't need anything complex. IMHO, you just need to get back to basic fundamentals. Maybe Curt Cignetti or Bob Chesney has a graduate assistant they wouldn't mind parting with! Go Ducks!

Marsh Duck - The Duck's Loss to Illinois is on Mehringer
I watched the offensive film breakdown on Oregon vs Illinois on youtube (Sco Ducks X and O's) lets be clear, the rage against Mehringer is too much. Raiola got that guy fired with all the wide open misreads. Im talking WIDE OPEN. even the play where everyone is off to the side. Thats a good play if Raiola just realizes the numbers are in his favor to the left instead of putting Dakorien in motion. Just throw the ball to him. you had 5 on 2. throw the damn ball over there.

Mehringer Was a Heat Check Hire. Now What?
I just hope that Coach Lanning and our AD do a true national OC search, and we look for great play callers and developers of talent regardless of system, not just solid recruiters. Our staff has gotten their a$&es handed to them by more experienced coaching staffs, in the games that have mattered the most, the past few years. It’s time to turn a weakness into a strength and finally do something with all of that “talent” you have assembled.

3 things the Ducks should prioritize in an OC candidate3 things Oregon should prioritize in its next offensive coordinator:1. Veteran Experience 2. Proven Play-Caller 3. It’s possible, but no way will it be Oregon, who will most likely have 4+ losses by the end of the regular season.

College Basketball Starts Next Week. The Ducks Face Another Challenging Season In The B1G Ten.
College basketball is hard to watch, IMO, with all of the roster turnover. I don’t even know who is on the Oregon team anymore.
-
CBS Reporting Mehringer Is Out
I don't know how’d you do anything else during the season. You don’t have time to install a new offensive system, learn the personnel and what they are capable of/not capable of, etc. while you are prepping for the next opponent. You could hire one of those experienced candidates immediately for a “trial period” (for both parties) as an offensive consultant/analyst.

College Basketball Starts Next Week. The Ducks Face Another Challenging Season In The B1G Ten.
First the good news. Forward Malique Ewin won his court case and will be eligible to play for the Ducks this season. Here are the B1G Ten preseason predictions for the Ducks in 2026-2027. New York Times and ESPN have Oregon at #13. CBS, Detroit News, USA Today and Yahoo list the Ducks at #14. Hoops HQ has Oregon at #16. Their comment: The loss of long time head coach Dana Altman could be a fatal blow before it even begins. Substack writer Campbell Manahan has Oregon at #17. His comment: Dana Altman saw this roster and quit. He has Rutgers at #18 and said the Scarlet Knights are worse than Oregon? This is bad.
