  5. Feels like DL is trying to take that same philosophy (he's been relying on fewer transfers the last couple of off-seasons). But the difference is the coaching staff...he's got a staff full of elite recruiters but short on development experience. That's going to have to change soon starting with the OC hire, he needs more guys who have proven resumes of developing players over a long period of time.

  10. To manage to pull off this win, it will require Jay Johnson and Raiola to both be perfect. What are the odds of that, gamblers? Quite impressive for them to be right last Saturday (and I was wrong), but I hope they are wrong this week. I want to pick OBD over tOSU, but don't want to jinx them. Tough decision come prediction time. 😁 Go Ducks!

  13. This was ND's biggest complaint last season. The Irish lost to Miami in Week 1, and Miami doesn't jump ND before the final ranking? Notre Dame being ranked above Miami before the final ranking on 12/7/2025 is a result of a media company and not the NCAA, managing the postseason. The myriad rankings by the CFB committee benefit ESPN's bottom line, while causing unnecessary confusion. Oregon is 3-1 against ESPN's Strength of Record rankings updated through Week 9. Wins against No. 24 Northwestern, No. 19 Boise State, and No. 14 USC—loss to No. 3 UCLA. Oklahoma State, after the Week 9 loss, 51-49 at Iowa State, dropped out of the AP Top 25 and the SOR Top 25, and Illinois never made the SOR or AP Top 25. Nebraska choked its way to another loss, this time to UW. USC and Iowa are back in the AP Top 25, but never should have dropped out. 2-loss Northwestern, instead of falling to No. 26 in the AP, should have remained ranked. Instead, 3-loss South Carolina and 3-loss Florida are ranked. As ESPN's Bill Connelly recently noted, the SEC was paid to play a ninth conference game and should not ipso facto benefit in the rankings from playing nine games. BTW, No. 6 Indiana is one of the many Big Ten teams with QB injury issues. Indiana was historically bad when B1G HQ created the conference schedules in 2023; Indiana, after playing nine straight games, has a much-needed Week 10 bye. No other P4 conference asked its defending champion to play nine straight games to start the season. The Trojans are also off this week, SC's 2nd bye because it played a Week 0 game. SC plays Indiana in Bloomington in Week 11. I won't be surprised if three 2-loss SEC teams, Alabama, best out-of-conference (OOC) win against FSU, Texas, solid OOC win over Ohio State with a healthy Julian Sayin, and Ole Miss, best OOC win against Louisville, are in the PO committee's Top 12. I think Ohio State could be ranked lower than No. 11 and bumped by G6 Boise State, out of the committee's first-ranking PO field. I hope I (again) am in error. It will help Oregon's playoff chances if the Buckeyes are ranked in the top 10 before Saturday's game in Columbus. Beat Brutus!
  14. I assume most head coaches keep a Rolodex (digital) of guys they have coached with, met at camps, met at coaches conventions, watched on tape, heard about, etc. Though, I think Chip was in Gary Crowton's Rolodex, not Bellotti's. I hope Lanning takes a bit of time (as needed subject to December signings) to really look around at offensive systems, QB nurturing, and success. While my gut reaction is to find someone with gray whiskers, I also think there is potential in a broader look under the rocks. The OC at Arizona? The OC at Wake Forest? Maybe not guys who are currently on the lips of pundits, but have shown they might be breakout coordinators at a program with more resources. Those two are examples, not a full list. Though there is something to be said for the gray whiskers types who have seen years of opponent adjustments and know how to counter it.
  15. Well, the best place to pick peaches is where the peach trees are. Would Smart have the same philosophy if he was coaching in Kansas?
  16. This Wall Street Journal article appears to be locked but it is not. https://www.wsj.com/sports/football/georgia-kirby-smart-gunner-stockton-ec53bc9c?st=1U556y&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink
  17. A veteran… former HC…Lanning needs somebody who has been in the trenches. From a distance he needs balance. Saban and Lane, Saban and Sark. Right now Lincoln Riley and Gary Patterson might work out. If Venables is let go at Oklahoma I would look at him as a DC. I think this is a staff remake to get to the next level.
  18. Not sure why Norvell would be such a good selection? Does he have any better offensive touch than some of the young successful OC's?
  19. He also did an analytics combined with strength of schedule ranking that had the Ducks at #25. A win at Ohio St. and suddenly the Ducks are back in consideration. May not get there (really an outside shot) but it's possible.
  20. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The SEC is once again overrated. Surprise, surprise! But even so 10 top 25 teams. No, no way! the voters should be ashamed of their pro-SEC bias!
  21. While I am all in n the Ducks during football season, during basketball season my loyalty lies with my VCU Rams (1981 graduate). I still have a soft spot for the Ducks in b-ball though and hope the new era they are entering will bring success. Sound like a challenging year, but the interim coach and the players seem ready for the task. It should be exciting to watch. Go Ducks! At least until the play the Rams (VCU that is). I hope the Ducks surprise a lot of people and end up near the top of the B1G.
  22. So, the question becomes, would Norvell be a great choice for the Ducks or should we go back to the proven formula of a bright up and coming young coordinator. One thing I am hoping for is someone who is willing to have the QB run some (not our leading rusher like Northwestern) and goes after QBs who can do that. Looking at our three losses and the Northwestern win too, QBs who can pass and run have killed us. That used to be an Oregon staple, not so much anymore. I'm ready to see it come back. The RPO is the offense of the present and maybe the future (we'll see how defenses adjust).
  23. Having been on far too many juries (no more, please), and having a career that involves conflict resolution, I say let the process play out. These cases are generally more complicated than they appear from the outside. We don’t know what happened: We don’t know the strength of the evidence, we don’t know if the police initiated a high speed pursuit recklessly, we don’t know how dangerously the suspect actually drove, we don’t know the driving history of the suspect, etc. etc. My 0.001 cents: How much money you have in your bank account should not matter (it does though, with those with resources almost always getting more lenient sentences), and age and maturity should be a factor in whatever sentence is determined. I remember how stupid I was as a young person, shudder. P.S. In every jury trial I was on I voted to convict because it was clear the person was guilty. However, in every trial there were mitigating circumstances that made it clear that “throwing the book” at the suspect was not warranted.
  24. Add in they take consideration of injuries and the Ducks have lost a possible #1 draft pick QB and several in our very talented receiver group. No we won't have that QB back, but some of the receivers will be (enough to continue to make that group very dangerous). If the new play caller is successful in playing to Raiola's strengths, staying away from his weaknesses, and the offense gets on a roll (a lot of ifs) the OBDs have a case for the committee if we win the rest of our games. Find a team that has fought through as much adversity and found their way in the midst of it. Wins over Boise St. (possibly their only loss), USC, Northwestern and OSU (if we can pull that off, I think we can but certainly not a sure thing) will be a great resume on the good wins side. Plus that #13 strength of schedule lines up quite well against the other teams that may come in with 3 losses. And in match ups, we have wins over 4 playoff contenders. Of course that is all predicated on winning out. That is not a given, but a hope at this point.
  25. If the uniforms will make them continue to play like the last two and a half quarters of the game, wear them every game.
