How Oregon Hit Rock Bottom Before the End of October
Agree or disagree, interesting points were brought up in this article. From championship hopes to rock bottom, what went wrong for Oregon?"Sometimes it's the health of the team, it's the bounce of the ball. There's some things that you really can't control," said former Oregon coach Mike Bellotti, who helped start Oregon's era of modern success with the program's first ever double-digit win season in 2000. "Yet when you have the initial ranking and the belief and you've paid [$50 million] amount of dollars for a roster, there comes to be a certain belief that, 'Wow, this is our year' but things still have to go right and they haven't." How it all started to unravelYet a closer look at what the Ducks lost from last season yielded some glaring results. While no marquee names left Eugene, Oregon, lost 27 players in the January portal who were all rotational players or backups. What's more: 23 of those Oregon transfers ended up at other Power 4 programs, despite only one of them (Jahlil Florence) starting more than three career games for the Ducks. Fifteen of those 23 players are starters for a new team this season with several starting for ranked teams, including Ole Miss outside linebacker Blake Purchase and Alabama defensive lineman Terrance Green. No loss was bigger than offensive coordinator Will Stein. His departure to be Kentucky's head coach prompted a robust staff exodus too, including Pat Biondo to be Kentucky's GM, Cutter Leftwich to be his offensive line coach, Parker Fleming to be his special teams coordinator and Dallas Warmack as assistant offensive line coach. Even more, former defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi left his post as defensive coordinator to take the head coaching job at Cal and brought six former Oregon staffers along with him to Berkeley. https://insider.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/50286778/oregon-demise-failure-season-lanning

Dan Lanning announces Jay Johnson will take over playcalling duties after Drew Mehringer firingOregon head coach Dan Lanning has slated veteran coach Jay Johnson as the team's interim playcaller. Johnson served as the offensive coordinator at Colorado, Michigan State and Wyoming most recently. https://247sports.com/college/oregon/article/dan-lanning-announces-jay-johnson-will-take-over-playcalling-duties-after-drew-mehringer-firing-291835499/- Dante's Injury May Significantly Lessen His Draft Status
Obviously, Dante’s health has to come first and I wouldn’t want to play with Oregon’s O-line with these offensive coaches. Maybe it’ll be a blessing for Dante long-term, as he is more likely to go to a good team that will not feel pressure to rush him to play as a rookie and he’ll be able to learn and develop behind a veteran QB.- Dante's Injury May Significantly Lessen His Draft Status
If Dante has to miss the rest of the season for medical reasons, I would be very hesitant to draft him on the first few rounds, if I were an NFL team. That is a long time to miss and underscores the severity of the injury.- Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
I would try contacting either Jeff Tedford or Marc Helfrich to see if either of them are interested in being Offensive Analyst. Yes, it's a long shot for either one, but let them say "no" before moving on.- It's Official: Dante's Season Is Over
Dudes pretty fragile. He will be quickly forgotten.- Hire OC Mike Locksley and DC Dave Aranda - Both Just Lost HC Jobs
Yahoo Sports "Locksley doesn't anticipate another college head-coaching opportunity. Rather, he's reportedly open to working in the NFL or serving as a coordinator for a championship-caliber college program." Get on the phone and convince him the Duck can win it all.- It's Official: Dante's Season Is Over
He didn't seem to be as good as everyone thought, anyway. DR wasn't the only one missing wide open recievers. Some halfway decent QB will want to come to Eugene...- Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
- Hire OC Mike Locksley and DC Dave Aranda - Both Just Lost HC Jobs
Certainly couldn't hurt at this point.- Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
Washing out at 2 consecutive OC positions is why he's stuck as an assistant QB coach. DL has to turn to him because apparently there just isn't any other choice.- Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
Welcome to the Dan Lanning Experiment 2026- Hire OC Mike Locksley and DC Dave Aranda - Both Just Lost HC Jobs
Eisenhower had Patton and McArthur We should carve out 2.5 million for each and go make a run at these hires! We already are spending a ton of money on a roster and the HC, spend the rest and get the Natty winners on staff! Mike Locksley was Bamas OC before he got the Maryland HC job. Won the 2017 title as CO-OC under Saban, in 2018 he was the OC and won the Broyles award. He has as years of experience, about a decade calling plays. Just got fired as Maryland HC. Dave Aranda won a Natty at LSU with Ed Orgeron and has years of experience, about a decade as well as a DC. Broyles award nominee in multiple years/schools and was the games highest pad OC when he was at LSU. Just got fired as Baylor HC. Problem solved, we aren't showing up in the playoffs looking not ready to play and getting out coached. Let's roll out the Lanning school of former HC's rehabbing their careers like Saban did at Bama.- Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
You have to be kidding. My friends, I have finally answered that long ago framed philosophical question. "THERE APPARENTLY IS NO LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL."- Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
It's not really that surprising that we don't really have anyone with experience calling plays, this is fine as a stop gap, we aren't going to get much better with the personnel that we have at QB and the O-line.- Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
I hear Dante Moore is available, between Lanning's kids and him we could have something.- It's Official: Dante's Season Is Over
Dante for OC, he already making more money than most OCs and he knows the play book. What the heck might as well give it a go what do we have to do in lose.- Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
He was Mel Truckers OC at Colorado and went with him to MSU. Mel had that big year with Kenneth Walker III and got that huge $95 million extension and then Mel got himself fired for cause and didn't get his buyout. When Mel got that stupid extension, it was the start of it all going stupid!! James Frankilin got his big extension, LSU hired Brian Kelly for over $100 million, Riley got $100 million at USC. Miami bought out Mario and gave him like $85 million. Now players move every year, some get $5-mil a year and NIL rosters are up to $40 or 50 mil- Dante's Injury May Significantly Lessen His Draft Status
Sure is a lot ugly comments on Non-Ducks message boards from people who know nothing about his medical condition, including recent reports of Dante having recurring vision issues.- Surprising Duck Film-Breakdown
And why would a buch of multi year 4 and 5 star OLs that are bad at their jobs NOT be coach Terry's fault??? Regression is ALWAYS a coaching problem. Dante regressed, Brock Regressed and DR regressed. The guidance to QBs to maximize the plays called is on the OC too. I'm not casting aspersions at a single player until this roster of offensive coaches complete turns over.- Who is Jay Johnson, the New Play-Caller for the Oregon Offense?
Put Jorgy in the booth with Johnson. Jorgy can remember a lot of ugly Ducks play calling and might be able to coach Johnson about what to avoid.- Dante's Injury May Significantly Lessen His Draft Status
The first 18 mil is like 20 time more important than the next 30 mil. The extra money gets so irrelevant so quick. It's way more important to get a chance to play on a good team. - 2027 Recruitment, Announcements, Interviews, Etc. (7)
