  1. Men are from Mars, Ducks are from Jupiter, Beavs are from Uranus.
  2. Opinion: second loss to Ohio State - poor preparation by coaches, it appeared the Ducks staff expected a repeat of the earlier game and that Ohio State would not make adjustments on offense or defense. It's like the coaches only watched film of the first game. second loss to Indiana - the loss of Ducks running back experience has not received the attention it deserved, both for carries and blocking. Then, when the deficit reached 21-7, I think the whole team - offense and defense - panicked, including a befuddled coaching staff. both - playing from behind is apparently not Lanning's forte.
  3. Indiana has published their non-conference schedule through 2030. They have 3 annual non-conference, all games at home. NONE of them are from a major football conference. Not just Power4, but not a competent Group of 6 such as Memphis, Tulane, Boise State, etc. either. The last Power4 non-conference was Louisville in 2023 in Indianapolis. They should start every season 3-0 before entering the 9-game Big Ten schedule. And, not spend much energy in getting those 3 wins. Cignetti is age 65. His age trails only Belichick, Ferentz, Whittingham and Fritz (Houston)
  4. Oregon started strong in 1987 behind a hot freshman quarterback named Bill Musgrave. In a bit of foreshadowing, Oregon AD Bill Byrne told officials at the Sun Bowl after the win over OSU that Oregon would guarantee the sale of “any number of seats they need, within reason.” And Sun officials acknowledged that, thanks to some untimely upsets of teams that had been considered locks for bowl bids, Oregon was a “serious candidate.” For one day. On Sunday morning, West Virginia (6-5) got the Sun Bowl bid against Oklahoma State (6-5). The Sun Bowl chairman explained “our decision was based on the East Coast television market.” http://www.benzduck.com/journal/2011/3/20/circling-the-bowls-1964-1988.html The Ducks flirtation with mediocre was a barrier. Too many near .500 seasons in the Brooks era. 1984: 6-5 1985: 5-6 1986: 5-6 1987: 6-5 1988: 6-6 1989: 8-4 with Byrne closing the deal for the Independence Bowl 1990: 8-4 1991: 3-8 1992: 6-6 1993: 5-6 I can't remember all the circumstances of why the program wasn't able to take advantage in 1991, 1992, 1993?
  5. Bellotti was Brook's O-coordinator during Brooks most successful years, 1989-94. In 1988 it was Bob Toledo. 2008 was Bellotti's last season as head coach. There were 9 coaches including Bellotti on staff. When Chip took over in 2009, he took the Bellotti slot and hired Helfrich to replace himself (Chip). The other 7 guys were the same in 2009 as they were in 2008. Chip had Bellotti's choices as assistants. I believe all 7 of those guys were still with Chip in 2012 - his last season. Chip did increase the staff from 9 to 11, but as I recall, 7 of the 10 assistants were the same. Over his four years, Chip hired Helfrich, Azzinaro, Frost. Interesting to contemplate whether Bellotti would have hired those guys?
  6. It might be interesting to make a comparison between the names listed so far, and the number of NFL seasons by each Duck who was in the NFL? 8 years for Chad Cota, as an example. Or, 14 years Gary Zimmerman who is in the NFL Hall of Fame. Yes, I understand, post-Duck career is different than contributions while a Duck, but seeing an NFL list might refresh some memories?
  7. A bit of history from 2017 https://www.thespectrum.com/story/sports/college/southern-utah/2017/09/02/suu-football-smoky-skies-put-oregon-game-doubt/629448001/ https://archive.ph/362Tm Dates this Fall 2026: Sep. 5 - Boise State - 12:30 Sep. 19 - Portland State - 7:30 During the day, the sun warms the ground, allowing warm air and smoke to rise and disperse. At night, the ground cools rapidly, creating a layer of cold air near the surface that is capped by warmer air above. This acts like a lid, trapping smoke and stagnant air near the ground. Wind speeds generally decrease at night, further preventing smoke from blowing away. Why does the smoke get worse in the morning? Cool air gets trapped near the ground overnight, trapping wildfire smoke close to the surface. That’s why air quality is often at its worst around sunrise before improving later in the day as temperatures warm and the air begins to mix
  8. https://www.iqair.com/air-quality/usa/oregon/eugene https://aqicn.org/map/eugene/ Above 160 today, Wednesday, in the unhealthy category. Appears it will be improving by Friday. Remember 2017 when the Ducks went to the Oregon coast to practice prior to the Nebraska game?
  9. So, the only two in one day appears to be Oregon and Washington.
  10. Notre Dame is opening a new $100 million dollar football facility. USC officially opens their new gazillion facility August 5. The Oregon facility opened in 2018, as I recall. Would USC spent that much, for that elaborate a facility, if Oregon hadn't been making recruiting in-roads in So. Cal?
  11. One thing that probably doesn't get noted enough was Oregon's decimated running back situation going into the second Indiana meeting. Not only was there in-experience in playing time carrying the ball, but inexperience in blocking. The two running backs vs Indiana were Hill and Harris who ranked No. 3 and No. 6 in season rushing. Davison, Whittington and Limar were 3 of the top 4 running backs the game earlier against James Madison. Harris was the 5th running back with one carry vs James Madison. Indiana had one of those magical seasons from an injury standpoint. And, of course, those missing running backs for Oregon weren't missing from the defense.
  12. "The defense in the Peach Bowl just melted and didn’t look anything like itself, even compared to the previous game against Indiana. It was predictable and just lacked any new wrinkles." Likewise the season earlier in the rematch with Ohio State. That game in particular it looked like Oregon's defense expected Ohio State to make no changes in the Rose Bowl from the regular season meeting.
  13. When do practices start? The Oregonian column said there is an on-campus media day on August 3, with practices starting August 5. Oregon's participation in Big Ten Media Day in Chicago was July 29.
  14. After opening that "view" link, another thing to keep in mind is if you are sitting in a low row in those sections you will not be able to see the full scope of the endzone because your view will be blocked by that white tent behind the endzone.
  15. Not to say you shouldn't prioritize tickets in the visitors section for fan connection, but be aware if you do you'll feel like you're watching from a spot halfway to Disneyland. https://aviewfrommyseat.com/photo/324138/Los+Angeles+Memorial+Coliseum/section-200/row-21/seat-37/
  16. re: that Rose Bowl 8-3 score Maybe good for a bar bet? Most people will remember Mariota was QB and was 26 of 36, for 338 yds (and remember perhaps Winston had more yardage passing), but will they remember who passed for the 2-pt conversion to make it 8-3? Taylor Alie. Because it was a PAT play, his name does not appear in game's passing stats.
  17. yes, originally the coaches order had Lanning at 10:15, it is now scheduled for 10:45 as the order was flipped a bit. Lanning will now be the last coach up in the order.
  18. ESPN/ABC has the broadcast rights for almost all of the SEC games on TV. Want to boost your viewership/advertising revenue to be able to make payments for that TV contract? Create an "analytics ranking" which places all the teams in the conference in the Top 20. Last bowl season: Miami (Fla.) 10, Texas A&M 3 Iowa 34, Vanderbilt 27 Wake Forest 43, Mississippi St 29 Houston 38, LSU 35 Illinois 30, Tennessee 28 Virginia 13, Missouri 7 Indiana 38, Alabama 3 Texas 41, Michigan 27
  19. 1) Get a TV, and talking heads, contract with ESPN 2) Get ESPN to promo your conference 3) Create a ranking which presumes no loss is a bad loss because you played a conference member
  20. Big Ten media day coverage on Tuesday. Nana, nana, nana...SEC. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/49472040/big-ten-commissioner-petitti-boasts-league-dominance-sec
  21. "....best of 5 FGs for each team to decide the game?" Nah, start at the 10 and keep backing up 5 yds with dual attempts until one opponent misses. Alex "Mongo" Karras of the Detroit Lions used to mimic them, calling out in falsetto: "I keeck a touchdown! I keeck a touchdown."
  22. Interesting column in today's Register Guard...not behind a paywall...which provides the author's ten Oregon football individual player records unlikely to be broken. Not sure if any will never be broken because of game rule changes, but it is something to consider as we reflect on game/individual records. What was the context of rules at the time? For example, in 1989 the use of tee's on FG and Xpoint was discontinued. The Div I FG record is 67 yds...3 players share the record...all before 1989.
  23. "Corral the Cowboys..." That will be the first home game for Oklahoma State with their new coaching staff and a bunch of transfers including QB Drew Mestemaker. The Ducks better take along plenty of rope.
  24. I would probably replace Leinart with Steve Emtman if there is a limit on Pac players. I also knew Bronco Jr, son of the legend. Bush was a phenomenal player.
