Not to mention the 2022 additions.

Defense wins championships. There is a reason Lincoln Riley can only sniff at it. And get upset by a Tulane. And still keep the same DC for another go around. Witness what Georgia did with a gamer but middling talented walk-on QB the last two years. Imagine a first round level QB running those UGA offenses. The domination would have been even more impressive. Yet it was the DL coached defense that was mainly responsible for hoisting that first NC trophy. The Dawgs were (arguably still are) a juggernaut because of defense. Kirby Smart's defense, yes, but DL had a lot to do with it. IMO the growth of the Duck D this year is due to Lanning instituting the formula that was so successful at Georgia. Points will be allowed against Williams and Penix led teams. Oregon's disciplined play and superior talent and coaching should be the difference maker in both contests. USC will be a serious test but hopefully the template gets established against UW first.

Very unfortunate news for both the Ducks and Noah. He was a very valuable component of the RB contingent, particularly what he brought to the RPO and pass game. A successful and speedy recovery is hoped for with a return in 2024. Jordan James has already stepped up but will be called upon to do more. He appears to be ready. Limar and Dowdell now need to be coached up to be the 3-4 back. Both are capable 4☆ RBs and will have to learn the offense fast. The one that excels in practice, and most importantly, blocks well enough to help keep Nix upright gets the nod.

The Liberty beat Connecticut in the semis to advance and take on the Las Vegas Aces. Sabrina is surrounded by some incredible talent and will hopefully end the season with her first championship. Pretty amazing she is doing it in her 3rd pro year.

I don't necessarily believe it was the yips. Lewis is used to FieldTurf or a variant of that, like the Hellas Matrix at Texas Tech. I have to wonder about the footing on Stanford's grass surface as it was the first time for Camden this year, and I don't believe Oregon has a natural practice field at the Mo/Hatfield-Dowlin complex. The Fusky surface is the newest AstroTurf 3D3 version so it will be much closer to what the Ducks practice on. I think he will have the control problems ironed out by then.

It will be a very tough game up in Seattle. Oregon will need to be it's best self to win, focused and disciplined. As described in today's FishDuck article, the shift in priority in Oregon's secondary to playing the receivers instead of the ball has resulted in fewer picks but better overall results. Executing that priority effectively will be critical against the Pups. They have very high quality targets for Penix and limiting those targets will be the best way to control UW's explosive offense. I was impressed by how Arizona kept Penix out of the endzone and am optimistic that the Duck's superior personnel on defense can do something similar while still defending the short pass and somewhat anemic run game. Hopefully Oregon gets KJackson and Popo healthy and we get to see Jacobs play as well. With a couple of positional exceptions, on paper Oregon has better talent and depth. The Pups will have home field and confidence. It should be the best match-up in years.

Ok. Oregon speed on the edge. Hopefully that will be the drive that breaks loose the dam. But that first 20 minutes was sure ugly offensively. D might keep us in this.

Georgia looking ho-hum against a one dimensional Auburn that lacks any pass game. They will probably pull it out against the Tigers, but it's a war of attrition and this sure doesn't look like last year's Dawgs. And, oh my, where will U$C find a defense? Can Texas hold off a flatland basketball power in Kansas that has discovered there are sporting balls that aren't round? Only the cream of the B1G looks good today so far.

I was watching from the 30yd line 50 rows up, almost even with the LOS and it had me totally fooled until James jumped to the right and I saw Rogers take off to the left. Only big boys lined up three across behind the center so nothing to tip it off. Brilliant, and a spirit breaker for Colorado. As Charles pointed out, this Duck coaching staff is dialing up stuff that we embraced during the Grandes Heuvos de Chip era. Calculated and executed well.

As a nice supplement to the "Ducks vs Them" video, here is Hythloday1's Duct Tape analysis of the game. Always an informative read, IMO, with a bit of biting humor thrown in. The statistics tell the story of not only the efficiency and dominance for Oregon on both sides of the ball, but of the steady improvement of the defense. In particular the D-line and pass rush.

Here's a maybe not so silly idea. After what we saw on that fake punt last week, Casey Rogers has nice first step acceleration. He did play some TE in high school. Who wouldn't love to see a modified J14 package in an old fashioned T formation with Rogers, James and PHerb behind Bo? Maybe with both of the other TEs offset to the right to make Conerly at LT eligible. What side do you stack to defend so that Bo can't option into a play that takes advantage of a mismatch? Imagine James hitting the newly created gaping hole behind Casey or better yet motioning James left and handing off to Rogers on a inside slant to the right behind PHerb, TFerg, JPJ, Harper and Cornelius. That's nearly a ton of rampaging Ducks to stop.

Great points all. There is little doubt that Oregon has better dudes on the lines but really shines when it comes to depth. Popo, Casey, Burch and Dorlus will simply wear the Buffs down and it will become apparent by the 'middle eight'. It may not be over at the end of the 1st half but should be by the 10 minute mark of the 3rd quarter. The big question will be discipline both from an assignment perspective (gap integrity and edge containment on D) and minimizing penalties (O-line false starts and PIs). With no run game to speak of Colorado will be dependent on Sanders' arm and making plays in space. Have him running for his life in the 2nd half with a gassed O-line protecting him and there is no way the Buffs can match scores with OBDs. Particularly if the Duck DBs harass the WRs enough to not give him easy looks.

Skip Bayless has reported that Hunter has a 'fractured' liver. Coach Neon saying nothing and no other media reports of this. It is not the kind of information that gets released on college players and if true would have had to have come through some underhanded channel. Given the fact that Hunter was observed overnight in the hospital, whatever the injury was, it was serious enough to keep a close eye on him. So, yeah, a small liver injury would fit that bill, as would rib fractures with a lung contusion. Taking what that blowhard says with a grain of salt, no thinking team doctor would release a player for full contact 3 weeks after a liver injury. Six weeks would be the minimum. While Sanders said Hunter would be out a "few" weeks, that could be as long as six. Hoping for Hunter's sake that he is given adequate healing time. Crappy situation all around and tools like Bayless don't help.

I agree with the vast majority here that the Travis Hunter hit was late. It looked intentional and egregious, much more so than some of the 'targeting' calls that are made. An ejection would not have been out of order. Colorado State killed themselves with penalties in what should have been a win. I spent 30+ years as a general and trauma surgeon. Dr. YouTube was pretty accurate in his take on both mechanism of action and potential injuries related to the impact. If the 2-3 week estimate for return is to be believed, the injury is not head (contusion), neck or internal organ (spleen) as those have a much longer recovery. The character of the hit and the way he went down implies torso trauma to me, likely rib fractures and/or an underlying lung contusion, and that fits the timeline better. Best of luck to him for a speedy recovery but I highly doubt Hunter will be available for the Oregon game.

Too much fun watching Colo St giving the Neon Buffys all they can handle. Exposing that defense.

Focus on Hawaii. On Sunday-Friday for Oregon it should be: Film study Radio silence Hard coaching Scheme perfection Ignore the hype Understanding that Oregon has superior personnel, specifically better O and D-lines, Edge, QB, RBs, DBs (except that Hunter guy, he's a unicorn) and arguably WRs. And home field advantage. Love him or hate him, Neon Prime has done Oregon a solid by bringing attention to this game. DL's earlier comments were perhaps inopportune but really have little impact outside of a Colorado locker room grease board. DL and the Ducks will not underestimate Colorado. The Autzen crowd will be amped. It'll be interesting to see what the Vegas line is come Sunday. If it's -13 Ducks, bettors have not yet bought into the Coach Prime hype train. Under -7 and money is talking. Not necessarily an indicator of the outcome but less supportive of Oregon. Back to point one, focus on Hawaii and clean up the messy stuff from last weekend. Then prepare for what should be a fun game against the Buffs. Go Ducks.

That was my read after hearing DL talk post game. Conerly jumped 3 times and JPJ whiffed on one snap. Intentional on TT's part to disrupt the timing of the snap count. About as hostile an environment as the O-line will face so it will prepare them for what's to come at UW and Utah. It felt the same after the Wazzu game last year to me. We all saw what that team turned into before the UW and OSU debacles with a wounded Bo. I think this team has more talent and just needs to draw lessons from this game to correct what didn't go well. I'm optimistic that will happen.

I condensed down what LogH noted and feel they are great points to make. There are plenty of things that need to be corrected. TT played a pretty good game on both sides of the ball and Oregon's mishaps were equally on offense and defense. I'm hesitant to single out Lupoi for criticism. I saw more good D alignments than bad ones and aside from a resurgence of some tackling issues and LBs being out of position on at least two of Shough's scampers, the defense held it's own and arguably won the game. No one is calling out ATerry for the sloppy stuff on the O-line, but it's not surprising that this game exposed some growing pains for that group. Hostile environment, heat, mental errors, receivers with a bit of a case of the dropsies. All reasons why the offense underperformed. I'll bet a lot gets corrected in practice this week.

Yup. Time to honor some of the other sports to get the Autzen crowd in a frenzy. First, certainly a collage of past Oregon football players that switches images to their pro teams: Justin, Jevon, Penei, Deommodore, Ugo, Noah, VM3, etc.. And for heaven sake, get some footage of PP3 and others like Brooks and Duarte. Then Sabrina, Ruthy and Satou crushing Stanford the year Oregon WOULD have won the national championship.

Charles, in short, bingo! PSU had no alternative but to get the ball out of the QB's hand in under 3 sec or he was going to be on the ground. They were 8 of 20 on pass plays and threw for 52 yds. Ultimately they pretty much abandoned the pass. All of the mental and positional breakdowns were on that one series. DL and Lupoi corrected things right away and the PSU offense was shut down the rest of the game. So given the rapid throws, then minimal use of the passing game later, the 'sack lack' was expected. Several of the D starters were not the personnel that we expected to see and may not have been the majority of the 'ones' on the depth chart. They got taken advantage of for a single series. Concerning, but not doom and gloom. It was rapidly fixed by the coaches. A much bigger test will be tomorrow against Texas Tech and I agree with posters here that the tougher competition will make the rapid pass/first or quick second read for Shough an issue for Oregon. Fortunately, TT's ground game is not great and will work in the Ducks favor. Oregon will give up some points but if they limit the damage through the air, the defense will have done it's job given that the Duck offense will be hard to stop.

TT is out one of their experienced starting ILBs. His replacement is a redshirt frosh that is a converted safety and has limited playing time outside of special teams. Sounds like an early and often Bucky opportunity!
