From watching Oregon D line greats like Kayvon Thib, Brandon Bair, Nick Reed, Dion Jordon, Eric Armstead, Deforest Buckner, and others, how does this year's D line compare? the starting edge players are not doing much other than getting locked up with O linemen. Maybe that is a scheme problem? Collin Simmons at Texas does not have this problem. The DTs are deep and seem to be good. Backup edges seem more athletic. Ducks should have brought in some edges from the portal. (as well as O line) I think the team will play more of the backup edges and the D will get better. Loyalty to a player vs finding the right player.

Oregon has some holes in the roster concerning certain kinds of talent. Ducks went light in the portal this year and are paying the price for it. They have to do better at evaluating O line and edge talent. Everything else looks good to me. Except maybe stop getting players hurt in non game stuff? Dan Lanning has to keep growing as a head coach. I think he can.

I love this article. There is something to be said for experience. How well does Chip Kelly do without Aliotti, Campbell, Greatwood, and the rest of his inherited staff? Does Dabo win two natty’s without Venables? Kirby won his championships with Monken as his OC, but hasn’t had great results since he left. Ryan Day needed an injection of Chip Kelly’s offensive play calling to break through. The fact is young head coaches thrive when they have experienced coordinators. I think Tosh helped DL achieve the success Oregon had early in his tenure. DL had actually worked for him at Bama. Guys like Saban and Cignetti were highly experienced before they won their championships. Ed O had been around the block as well. Could DL win it all with a young, inexperienced staff? Sure. Is it likely. No.

I'm more worried about our TE room. Any word on them?

I went back and took a look. In the final drive, Oregon had in its 4th QB of the day, throwing his first career passes, two true freshman in on the OL (Iheanacho, Tofi) and 3 young OL with 16 career snaps between them (Brooks, Stascausky, Manning). It had two true freshman in at RB (B. Smith, T. Ball), a walk-on TE who had never played (Cole Newton), and ran through 4 WRs: one WR playing his first game (Ressler), true freshman (Dayton Raiola), and two walk-ons (McCoy, Brady Bidwell). Prior to the game, none of the skill guys in on the drive had recorded a single career counting stat (pass attempt, rush, or catch). 8 career snaps from Brooks was the veteran out there, followed closely by Tofi's 7 career snaps. Ohio State had it's five star and likely "heir apparent" QB in throwing on 3rd down with 3 1/2 minutes left up 59-0 against Kent State. The play actually was intercepted and returned 48 yards which led to a Kent State FG. Both teams kept playing and I'd imagine Kent State was pretty happy making a late play to avoid being shutout. They asked the Kent State LB (Tanner Mintz) about the late interception in the post game and he said: "I came here to play football. I saw the ball, had my opportunity, I took it. Gotta do whatever I can to try to flip the script for us." Seems like Tanner wanted no part of Ohio State taking it easy on Kent State.

Pro Football Week 3 statistics are out. To date, tackles Addison and Crader have allowed 16 pressures and six sacks. Boise State and OK State collectively rushed for 330 yards, and Oregon for 209 yards. For those down on Moore. Notwithstanding being under pressure and his receivers dropping passes they should have caught, Dante has completed 68.5% of his passes with 9 TDs and no interceptions. However, to date, Dante is 51st in Quarterback Rankings. Jayden Maiava is ranked 10th. Archie Manning is ranked 40th. Georgia's Gunner Stockton has the No. 1 ranking. OK State is ranked No. 30 in the latest AP Poll. I'd like to think the Cowboys can compete for a B12 title, but even without playing BYU and Utah, the schedule is tough. Home against UCF, CU, Texas Tech, ASU, and Kansas. These are all winnable games. Texas Tech, ranked No. 11, is overrated. But the away slate starting at WVA on Saturday is not easy. OK State is also on the road against Houston, Iowa State, and K-State. I will be rooting for the Broncos and the Cowboys.

I have to agree. The o-line was expected to be a weakness because of the inexperience of the newcomers and it has played out that way. I think they took a step in the right direction in the PSU game but they have a long way to go (will they be good enough against USC, who knows). The d-line has been the absolute surprise and not in a good way. All that experience and talent up front, they should be dominating like a pack of wolves but playing like labra-doodle puppies. They have far more to prove now and it needs to get fixed ASAP. It's been shocking how much they can't get pressure on the opposing QB and how few sacks/TFLs they're getting.

Well that sucks 😛 I hope he recovers well and comes back before the end of the season. In the meantime, I liked what I've seen out of Messiah Hampton so far. He's shown good hands and urgency. Could be the WR3 right away.

Just like Michigan will be haunted by the W. Michigan game, i feel the Ducks game against OSU will haunt them. Let's face it both the Wolverines and Ducks embarrased themselves. The Wolverines stole a game they lost. And our Ducks were lucky they didnt lose by 20 plus. Gosh i still cant wash that bad taste out of my mouth. However, the Ducks can redeem themselves by actually showing up, being physical, dominating and beat the Trojans. There is no redemption for Michigan unless they make the BIG Title game. As for power rankings, JJ, i would have put both Michigan and the Ducks ahead of Penn State. If The Nittany Lions dont make the BIG Title game with their weak arse schedule, then they will have under achieved. Power rankings be damned, the Ducks must beat the Trojans, period. With a loss they would have to win out, go 10-2 and hope the CFP Committee doesnt hold the OSU game against them. The best scenario for our Ducks is that BSU and OSU win 10 plus games. And for OBD's to just win out. Go Ducks.

You can't expect 4th stringers to "ease up" on PSU players. They may not see the field again the rest of the season. How about that special father and son moment between the Bidwells that doesn't happen if we just run the ball every play? IMHO we just shouldn't be playing FCS schools anymore, period. There are lots of G6 schools out there that would be willing to play us, and yes that includes the barkrats. I'd much rather play them than PSU, Idaho or Stoney Brook.

IMHO Unfortunately, this question is a symptom of the newer generation of everybody is special children where the participation trophy reigns. In football its kill or be killed. We are trying to teach young boys to be men. Some take that as a chance to make life fair. There is no fair in life. Except on TV or some communist collective farm. That fish and beef we eat knows exactly how fair life is.
