With that kind of wealth comes expectations. These are no longer just college kids. The amount of resources spent to turn the men into machines is crazy. It changes the posture of the way I root for my favorite team. I have no delusions about the transformation of the collegiate athlete from amateur to professional. The college game has changed so fast and it's not slowing down anytime soon. What are we watching 5 years from now?

The true backups were in most of the second half, I wouldn't read any more into it than our opponents score in our first round playoff game last year. In the first half they were dominant on defense, and the QB Maiava put up an 89% completion rate game. I do think some of that was San Jose not dealing well with the heat and humidity, they didn't have any explosiveness on either side of the ball. Certainly there is a steep drop-off in talent from the starters to the backups at USC, but I expect USC has taken a bigger jump this off season than most expected. Will they close the gap with us? The humidity in socal has been deep south levels for the past few weeks, which is atypical to go on for so long. I've living in San Diego over 20 years and this is the longest and most intense humidity I can remember. Southern Californian's deal with this one of two ways: head to the beach to soak in the 70 degree Pacific Ocean or stay in an air conditioned spot. I'm back from the off-season, but still busy as heck. I think it's most likely we will see 2s and 3s as part of the baseline plan from the kickoff, just because that is what happened last year. Some position battles carry into the out of conference start of the season. RB comes to mind from last year. I do think we will see players at decided positions that aren't part of the two deep be put in as soon as we have a comfortable enough lead. Whether or not we have blowout is dependent on how go everyone plays, because I think pretty much everyone is going to play.

I don’t think the Ducks will get a chance to get too deep into the roster. There are three things in life that are certain. Death, taxes and Boise State playing great against Oregon. I’ll wait to give my prediction later in the week, but I think it will be a one-score game. Part of the reasoning is BSU’s consistency and it being the first game of the season. The other part is Oregon’s new coordinators. They’re not new to the program, but I think they’ll experience some growing pains. Especially if they try to run a vanilla game plan.

Lanning will run it up as much as he can in the first 2.5 quarters and then he'll let the reserves out. And I say he'll run it up not out of a vindictive desire to embarrass but to give his ones practice of playing full speed in a game. Half way through the third if the score is lopsided the ones are coming out entirely. Lanning doesn't care about the spread. He'll get his reserves in to see what they can do.
