BIG Tier List Week Five
With playing Penn St next week, USC gets three out of their first four BIG games against the so what tier and they still manage to look this bad. Northwestern blows the doors off Penn St and barley loses to top ten Indiana for their only loss still isn't ranked but the Trojans are. Ridiculous.

WEEK 6 AP Poll - My Thoughts - Yours?
A 10-2 Duck team should make the CFP. However, it is not a sure thing. If OBD loses to tOSU it cannot be an inept looking Duck team getting blown out in the Shoe. CFP committe members will be watching that game and OBD's must look like a top ten team that deserves an invite! Consider that a Duck team ranked #9 or #10 when facing tOSU could drop out of the top 12. Remember its really about staying in the Top 11 spots. Number 12 will get bumped by the G6 qualifier. And after watching the tOSU/Iowa game I am uncomfortable wrapping my head around as how OBD's D scheme can keep Jeremiah Smith out of the end zone. That young man is exceptional........ The Ducks will need to score on most of their drives to keep pace. In the meantime, in the other 7 games, OBD's must continue to improve and play like a top ten team. As for the rankings the Ducks need to keep winning and it would help to make the big title game. ND and Miami have no one on their schedule who can beat them. A cakewalk to the CFP. That is BS.... The loser of the Georgia/Bama game will not fall below tOSU in the rankings. Unless one team gets blown out. The loser would not fall below OBD. BYU and TT should not be ranked above OBD. Just shows how much credibilty OBD's lost playing poorly in the Ok State game. How many voters back east or midwest were awake watching the last 10 minutes of the Duck/USC gsme? It was after 10 0m back east. That was the best 4th quarter for OBD this year. I wouldn't leave it up to the weekly voters or the committee to get the Ducks into the CFP. Win out and beat them all. Get into the BIG Title game. Leave nothing to chance. Go Ducks........ thrash the upstart Bruins!

Second Viewing of USC Game: "Oregon is in Flux....Badly So."
This thread may be winding down, but I will add one other thought. I am not able to watch much film, but I am certainly willing to take the word of Solar and Schwartz regarding Perich. The puzzle is his apparent regression from his play last year at Minnesota. If I remember correctly, Chris Hampton is not only acting as DC, but is still coaching the safeties. I wonder if his dual responsibilities are part of the problem. On the other hand, this may be one of those things that is fixed during the bye weeks. On another matter, Missouri put on a clinic in run defense yesterday. Perhaps there is something to learn from them.

Is It Time to Bring Back Chip?
Just my take, but under no circumstances should Riley be hired by Oregon. He does not fit in the culture Oregon has had for many, many years. For example Chip’s suspension of L. Blount.

I'm Really Excited to Play UCLA
I'm probably a little more cautious about UCLA than you are, although I agree with the basic premise that Oregon should win this game. The schedule is definitely the biggest reason to pump the brakes on UCLA hype. They haven't really been tested by an elite team yet. But I also don't think we can completely dismiss what they've done simply because the competition hasn't been great. They aren't barely beating those teams. They're averaging almost 45 points a game, nearly 500 yards of offense, and over 280 rushing yards. Going to Maryland and winning 54-3 got my attention regardless of how good Maryland is. I also don't think the bye is quite as much of an advantage as it appears because UCLA has had the same two weeks to prepare. Oregon gets time to diagnose what went wrong against Oklahoma State and USC, but UCLA also gets two weeks to study those exact problems and figure out how to attack them. Where I agree most is the matchup with Nico. Philosophically, Lanning's defense should be well equipped to deal with a mobile quarterback, and Oregon has actually been pretty good against the run so far. But UCLA worries me because it isn't just Nico scrambling around. Wayne Knight and that entire rushing attack force you to account for multiple threats, and that's where eye discipline, tackling and assignment football become huge. Given some of the defensive breakdowns we've already seen this year, I'm not ready to assume that part takes care of itself. Autzen absolutely matters, and I expect Oregon to win. I'm just not sure I'm at the point where I'd call UCLA harmless because of its schedule. To me this is almost a perfect measuring-stick game. If Oregon comes out of the bye, cleans up the defensive issues and beats a 4-0 UCLA team convincingly, I'll feel a whole lot better about where this team is headed. Go Ducks! 🦆

WEEK 6 AP Poll - My Thoughts - Yours?
Just win... Polls and politicians. We lose one more we are in the playoffs almost for sure. two more and most likely out...

I'm Really Excited to Play UCLA
My only concern in this game is defensive scheme. I hope Oregon is smart enough to keep 5-6 in the box consistently to combat their strong run game. They need to make Nico try and beat them.

I'm Really Excited to Play UCLA
Chesney and his tag-a-long group of coaches/players probably have some extra incentive, but we’ve already once seen his playbook and inclinations full bore. So, as long as Dan has now got our defense’s full attention and can keep it, we match up pretty good.

WEEK 6 AP Poll - My Thoughts - Yours?
The Week 6 AP Poll is out. With Penn State and Michigan floundering, six Big Ten teams are ranked. Saturday, No. 21 UCLA visits No. 13 Oregon. During the Off Week, both teams moved up two spots. Wisconsin dropped from 26 to 28. No. 30 Northwestern should be in the Top 25. No. 31 Nebraska awaits a visit from No. 7 Indiana. PJ Fleck chugged from the 123-year-old Little Brown Jug; surprisingly, he's not in the Minneapolis General Hospital Emergency Ward. This is the first time the Gophers, who won 20-14, have captured the Jug since 2014, and, three stadiums later, the first win in Minneapolis over the Wolverines since 1977. No. 37 Minnesota is taking a well-deserved Week 6 break. Ohio State ranked 5th behind Notre Dame and Miami teams; both 0-0 against the Top 25 is wrong. And if a QB and not Jeremiah (last name not needed) wins the Heisman 🤬. OBD, 2-1 against the Top 25, ranked behind three B12 teams, is wrong. Pat Narduzzi whined enough to have Pitt ranked 25th. Virginia Tech outgained Pitt 499 yards to Pitt's 295, but four turnovers and a college kicker situation allowed Pitt to escape with the win. Turn Those Review Machines Back On? Rather than spending the night listening to cowbells, Kalen DeBoer had the Tide players up at 6 AM and rolling on a bus to Starkvegas on game day. DeBoer was 20-0 in games where his team had two or more turnovers. He's now 21-0 after Mistake State turned the ball over twice in the first period. No. 7 Alabama should be ranked ahead of the Domers and the Canes. No. 2 Georgia visits Tuscaloosa on Saturday, where the Dawgs have not won since 2007. Miami hosts Florida State and Notre Dame hosts a Stanford team trying to recover from an Irish Wake. 🤪 Coaches who won big in old places are not winning B1G in new places. Big 12 players are not coming through at Penn State. The Michigan D should sue its multi-million-dollar QB and a pathetic O for non-support. I think Fitz will be a good fit in E. Lansing, but not this season. But a guy who won big at James Madison and at lower-level programs, Bob Chesney, has UCLA off to a great start with a prove-it game Saturday in Eugene. Hopefully, the proof will not be in a Ducks pudding. Hats off to Coach Drink for spanking a ranked team. At least the voters dropped the Gators out of the Top 10. The SEC, with this season's top crop of QBs, will continue to cannibalize one another. With losses by VA Tech, Florida, Mistake State, Iowa, and Cincinnati, 13 FBS teams remain undefeated. Tosh lost another game, this time in Vegas. Cal does not have to make plans to be in Las Vegas on January 25, 2027. This is no fine for Will Stein: The biggest comeback in Kentucky Wildcats history, a 35 to 34 OT victory on the road at South Carolina, and Kentucky falls out of the Top 25?🥸 On3College Football Rankings: AP Poll Top 25 after Week 5 re...The latest AP Poll Top 25 rankings are here now that Week 5 of the college football regular season has concluded. Is It Time to Bring Back Chip?
I'm honestly less concerned about bringing Chip Kelly back than I am about what is happening on the other side of the ball. I'm starting to wonder whether Chris Hampton may simply be in over his head as a full-time DC. Oregon is loaded with defensive talent, yet against its three FBS opponents this season the Ducks are giving up 31 points and nearly 425 yards per game. There are some bright spots, particularly third-down defense and turnovers, but this doesn't look like what a Dan Lanning defense with this much talent should look like. If I were talking about making a coordinator change, defensive coordinator is where I'd be looking. And Oregon wouldn't exactly be short on possibilities. Bryant Haines at Indiana would be near the top of my list. Glenn Schumann would be the dream reunion with Lanning. Pete Kwiatkowski would be an incredibly interesting veteran hire. Zach Arnett is a proven SEC defensive mind. Phil Parker would be a home run if you could ever pry him away from Iowa. I'd even call retired Iowa State DC Jon Heacock and ask if one last run at a national championship sounded fun. And if Lanning wanted to dig into the FCS ranks, guys like Bobby Daly at Montana State deserve a serious look. Chip Kelly would be fun to talk about, but offense isn't the side of the ball keeping me up at night right now.

Couldn't agree more. Ducks will be healthy and UCLA's just not that good. Moore or not the Ducks are not losing at home to UCLA.

Second Viewing of USC Game: "Oregon is in Flux....Badly So."
Geoff is being polite. The USC game highlights were inescapable showing just how bad Perich was at diagnosing and taking good angles to the ball. It's hard to believe he's the best we have for that position. I'm expecting Jett Washington or Woodyard to take his starting spot against UCLA.

I'm Really Excited to Play UCLA
I know a lot of folks are nervous about us playing UCLA next weekend, but I'm not for 3 reasons: UCLA is good, but not as scary as some think. They have had the easiest schedule in the B1G so far. Cal is probably the worst team in the ACC, SDSU may be the worst team in the PAC12, Maryland and Purdue are the worst teams in the B1G. Granted, some of that observation is UCLA making the look bad in one of their 4 games, but still. We play at home likely in some more traditional fall weather. We've had our bye week to assess and implement the most significant changes we'll be able to make all season. Lanning's defense is built to contain running QBs like Lameava Obviously UCLA is on their bye week,is already comfortable that most things are working, and is therefore simply focusing for 2 straight weeks on beating us at our weaknesses. But I don't think that trumps the 3 points above. I'm looking for us to beat the two touchdown spread and seeing some notable changes in players and execution.

Chip coaches outside and inside zone well, but I'm not ready for a retread....
-
Is It Time to Bring Back Chip?
It’s not the worst idea. The last few years the most common thread behind OBD’s losses have been opposing coaches that were long in experience.
-
Is It Time to Bring Back Chip?
If we determine we can't win the big one with our OC at some point, then sure, Riley or Kelly are great options if available. We are only a quarter of a season through with our new OC who is showing a promising amount improvement though.

UW with a Winning Season This Year?
.500 team at best. Especially poetic given their QB’s off-season situation.

Lanning v Cristobal
I don't understand why Miami doesn't have the best odds to win a Natty. Mario will always have an OL advantage over us, he appears to have good talent evaluators in place and coordinators that he trust to win games their way, something he was incapable of doing with us and his first few years at Miami. Dan is younger than Mario, with less head coaching experience than Mario. If Mario could figure it out eventually, then so can Dan. If you gave me the opportunity to switch head coaches right now Mario vs. Dan, I would stick with Dan. He's much more personable and has a similar to higher ceiling than Mario as a HC.
