  4. A veteran… former HC…Lanning needs somebody who has been in the trenches. From a distance he needs balance. Saban and Lane, Saban and Sark. Right now Lincoln Riley and Gary Patterson might work out. If Venables is let go at Oklahoma I would look at him as a DC. I think this is a staff remake to get to the next level.
  5. Not sure why Norvell would be such a good selection? Does he have any better offensive touch than some of the young successful OC's?
  6. Today

  7. He also did an analytics combined with strength of schedule ranking that had the Ducks at #25. A win at Ohio St. and suddenly the Ducks are back in consideration. May not get there (really an outside shot) but it's possible.
  8. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The SEC is once again overrated. Surprise, surprise! But even so 10 top 25 teams. No, no way! the voters should be ashamed of their pro-SEC bias!
  9. While I am all in n the Ducks during football season, during basketball season my loyalty lies with my VCU Rams (1981 graduate). I still have a soft spot for the Ducks in b-ball though and hope the new era they are entering will bring success. Sound like a challenging year, but the interim coach and the players seem ready for the task. It should be exciting to watch. Go Ducks! At least until the play the Rams (VCU that is). I hope the Ducks surprise a lot of people and end up near the top of the B1G.
  10. So, the question becomes, would Norvell be a great choice for the Ducks or should we go back to the proven formula of a bright up and coming young coordinator. One thing I am hoping for is someone who is willing to have the QB run some (not our leading rusher like Northwestern) and goes after QBs who can do that. Looking at our three losses and the Northwestern win too, QBs who can pass and run have killed us. That used to be an Oregon staple, not so much anymore. I'm ready to see it come back. The RPO is the offense of the present and maybe the future (we'll see how defenses adjust).
  11. Having been on far too many juries (no more, please), and having a career that involves conflict resolution, I say let the process play out. These cases are generally more complicated than they appear from the outside. We don’t know what happened: We don’t know the strength of the evidence, we don’t know if the police initiated a high speed pursuit recklessly, we don’t know how dangerously the suspect actually drove, we don’t know the driving history of the suspect, etc. etc. My 0.001 cents: How much money you have in your bank account should not matter (it does though, with those with resources almost always getting more lenient sentences), and age and maturity should be a factor in whatever sentence is determined. I remember how stupid I was as a young person, shudder. P.S. In every jury trial I was on I voted to convict because it was clear the person was guilty. However, in every trial there were mitigating circumstances that made it clear that “throwing the book” at the suspect was not warranted.
  12. Add in they take consideration of injuries and the Ducks have lost a possible #1 draft pick QB and several in our very talented receiver group. No we won't have that QB back, but some of the receivers will be (enough to continue to make that group very dangerous). If the new play caller is successful in playing to Raiola's strengths, staying away from his weaknesses, and the offense gets on a roll (a lot of ifs) the OBDs have a case for the committee if we win the rest of our games. Find a team that has fought through as much adversity and found their way in the midst of it. Wins over Boise St. (possibly their only loss), USC, Northwestern and OSU (if we can pull that off, I think we can but certainly not a sure thing) will be a great resume on the good wins side. Plus that #13 strength of schedule lines up quite well against the other teams that may come in with 3 losses. And in match ups, we have wins over 4 playoff contenders. Of course that is all predicated on winning out. That is not a given, but a hope at this point.
  13. If the uniforms will make them continue to play like the last two and a half quarters of the game, wear them every game.
  14. I though they looked like winners.

  19. What bothered me about the defense against Northwestern was how often they converted on 3rd and long. That drove me nuts. Their QB is deceptively shifty and quick.
  20. Maybe Nike hired some Adidas designers
  21. I liked them. I wonder what forest green would look like with white.
  22. IMHO, it shouldn’t matter what anyone thinks would have happened. They had a great defense and would have had another month of prep to improve their offense. They were robbed by not one, but two one loss teams. The committee played politics with the SEC which should have been the fourth team, but Texas beat Alabama on the road in Week 2, so they had to keep Big12 Texas above Alabama, when Texas should have been left out. When you lose, you lose control of your destiny. But when you beat everyone in front of you in the old Power 5, it’s an injustice to everyone in that program to have a playoff opportunity stolen from you. They all checked out before that bowl game. I would have, too. Georgia might have been the best team that year. I have no idea why they laid an egg against Alabama.
  23. Didn't like them. I like school colors, green and yellow. Until I saw the N on the helmets I thought the team in white was the Ducks.
  24. Florida State was very good that year. It was their offense that would have been the difference. Scoring 16 against a middle tier Louisville was all the committee needed to see. The Seminoles wouldn't stand a chance against a good defense like Michigan's, and the Wolverines would have worn them down and stomped them. And even if those great players faced Georgia, Kirby had a message about whining. He delivered it poetically too. Florida State getting in based on merit is a nice narrative. They were no longer the team that rose to 11-0 before the injury. It also explains why Miami got in last year instead of Texas, who despite playing poorly plaid a much tougher schedule and survived. Not to mention playing Ohio State to open the season instead of Marist High School (local in Eugene). Miami lost to two unranked opponents and got in based on their September performance, and playing well in November. Florida State was limping into a title game they had trouble even controlling. It would have been embarrassing and unjustified to watch a limping Florida State take a position from a team that truly had a shot at the title. Remember-they got away with this by saying the best four. Florida State was not the 4th best team at the end of 2023. And it was fitting. Being humiliated exposed the program. If they were legit, it would have shown up the following year. Instead, the spiral has exposed Florida State is suffering as much as a bunch of SEC teams that no longer can stockpile talent. Norvell revived their QB's career-which unfortunately ended in Tallahassee. But the whining was more telling-they disintegrated. They disappeared as a program. The fan base surely didn't help (um hmm......).
  25. If any 3 loss team could sneak into the playoff, it’s Ohio State. However, we’ll have the head to head win over Ohio State and USC. It’s unfathomable to imagine only two B1G teams would make the playoffs, but if OBD beat Ohio State and each of Iowa, USC, and Northwestern lose again (USC and NW very likely), the playoff committee may take a hard look at a 3-loss team. Oregon would arguably have the best resume and would be considered to be on a hot streak. I like our chances in Columbus. Finney vs Smith! This is Raiola’s team now and he is getting more and more comfortable each week. The young Buckeye QB doesn’t have the experience to exploit our defensive holes.
