Amen...all through the Regional. So many young-gun pitchers in Eugene have progressed through the season to become important now. And....with all the abuse I enjoy heaping upon the Beavers--they were clearly a very good team. They just keep rolling out pitchers with great ERAs, and their hurling depth is amazing. With that--be proud, Oregon fans. We BEAT a good team, and the Ducks are rounding into a pretty darn good team too! "It makes you want to dance...."

Ducks win 4-1! Closer Devin Bell came in and followed the pattern of giving up a hit, and then putting away the side. On to Austin Texas to play the Longhorns in the Super-Regional next weekend!

4-1 Ducks after eight innings. Tanner Bradley comes in and gives up a walk, and a hit...but keeps them scoreless for the inning!

4-1 Ducks after seven innings. The Oregon scoring got going, but Oregon State contributed to it... Burke-Lee Mabeus waits out a walk, and Maddox Molony hit a bouncer up the middle to get on base. Jax Gimenez walks, and now the bases are loaded! Jack Brooks lets the orange reliever self-destruct, and walks...bringing in a run. Ryan Cooney does the same thing! Angel Laya hits a difficult bouncer in the infield that creates a throwing error to get him on base and score another run! (The bad news is that the OSU reliever got his mojo back and stranded the bases loaded remaining.) Luke Morgan came in for relief, and continued the pattern of giving up a hit, and then putting down the side. But Morgan got three strikeouts...all looking!

1-1 after six innings, as Oregon's Miles Gosztola has a familiar pattern of allowing one base runner by a hit or walk...and then disposes of the rest of the side. He has been stellar, and gone a full six innings. He is at 97 pitches...is there some gas left for more?

1-1 after three innings. Oregon's Jack Brooks slipped a hit past the infield, and Angel Laya hit a liner to get on base as well. Then Drew Smith gets a hit to RF to score Brooks! The Duck Crowd at PK Park went crazy as Miles Gosztola struck out three straight Beavers!

1-0 OSU after two innings. Gotta get the bats going! Great play at Home...

0-0 after the first inning. Oregon starter Miles Gosztola gave up two walks, but got it done and stranded them both.

They lost to St. Mary's a SECOND time! (6-5)

It is hard to believe that there are not enough cable channels to televise Oregon's regional final tonight, but perhaps the audience is not big enough? Bottom line is that this morning it appears that both the elimination game this afternoon at 1:00 PM of Oregon State vs Washington State will be on ESPN+, as will the Ducks' final tonight at 6:00 PM PST. I will be watching and reporting on it in this gameday thread as before, and I've been asked who I want to face in the final? Both teams will be on their fourth starting pitcher when they face the Ducks, but Beavis has a much deeper pitching staff than does Butthead, so I think I'd rather take on Washington State in the final. But if Oregon faces Oregon State--a win would be that much sweeter... Miles Gosztola on the Hill for Oregon...

The No. 11 seed UO baseball team improved to 2-0 in the NCAA Eugene Regional with a 4-0 win over Washington State on Saturday in front of a sellout crowd at PK Park, putting the Ducks in the driver’s seat in the four-team, double-elimination tournament. Oregon (42-16) will play in the regional final on Sunday at 6 p.m. in what will either be a rematch with Washington State (31-27) or a showdown with in-state rival Oregon State. The Cougars and Beavers will play first on Sunday in an elimination game at 1 p.m., with the winner staying alive to face the Ducks in the nightcap and needing a win to force a winner-take-all game seven on Monday. “Really competitive game tonight,” head coach Mark Wasikowski said. “They have a really, really good team and they pitched really well. They were competitive, and I was really excited about the effort that the club that I represent gave … I just love this team. I think these guys are really, really good. Excited to play for a regional championship tomorrow.” Will Sanford celebrates another scoreless inning before a B1G PK Park Crowd... The Ducks were led by a brilliant performance from starting pitcher Will Sanford (9-2), who struck out a career-high 14 batters while surrendering just one hit across 6.1 scoreless innings. Relievers Tanner Bradley and Devin Bell followed Sanford with 2.2 scoreless inning of relief with five more strikeouts to give the UO staff 19 total punchouts on the night. “The pitching performance of all three guys that touched the mound tonight,” Wasikowski said, “I thought that was really remarkable.” Jax Gimenez delivered a clutch RBI single in the fifth inning to give Oregon the lead, and Naulivou Lauaki Jr. crushed a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give the Ducks all the cushion they needed. Bradley relieved Sanford and delivered 1.2 scoreless innings before giving way to Bell, who slammed the door in the ninth inning and sent 4,278 fans home happy and eager to return on Sunday. “That environment PK brought tonight with the crowd and how competitive It was, it was unmatched,” Gimenez said. “It’s the best there is in the country.” How it Happened: Sanford and Washington State starter Luke Meyers (4-5) were locked in a pitcher’s duel from the get-go. Oregon was the assigned visiting team on Saturday, and Meyers needed just six pitches to get through the top of the Ducks’ lineup. Sanford upped the ante in the bottom half, striking out the side on 16 pitches while filling up the zone with 10 strikes. He would strike out the first five batters he faced and racked up seven punchouts through three scoreless innings while allowing just one baserunner on a hit batter. The San Diego native ran his strikeout total up to 10 after striking out the side in the fourth, and the Ducks’ offense broke through against Meyers in the top of the fifth. Burke-Lee Mabeus ripped a one-out double to give Oregon its first baserunner of the game, and Gimenez scored him with an RBI single through the right side. A B1G hit from Jax Gimenez The clutch knock was momentous for Gimenez, who picked up his first hit since April 22 after going more than a month without an at-bat while battling an injury. “I just really wanted the moment when I was on deck,” Gimenez said. “Burke with a really good at-bat in front with a double and Maddox (Molony) works a great walk, so some really good at-bats in front of myself to put me in that position and just really excited to come through for the team.” Sanford struck out the first batter he faced in the bottom of the fifth, extending his punchout streak to six in a row. A walk and Washington State’s first hit of the game gave the Cougars two runners on with two outs, but Sanford thwarted the threat with strikeout No. 12. Sanford cruised through a 1-2-3 sixth inning while notching his career-high 13th strikeout of the night, raising his hands to the sky as he walked off the mound. He added to that total with No. 14 to start the seventh before issuing his second walk, after which he left to a standing ovation from the PK Park faithful. “It just gives me more confidence and more belief in myself,” Sanford said. “There is no tired when you have a crowd like that. Pure adrenaline, it was great. I just love it.” Bradley took over for Sanford with one on and one out and quickly ended the inning with a groundout and a strikeout. He then needed just 10 pitches for a 1-2-3 eighth inning while adding two more strikeouts. Angel Laya opened the ninth inning with a single and a walk to Brayden Jaksa set the stage for Lauaki, who once again showed off his prodigious power with a three-run homer to right-center field. The freshman matched Laya for the most home runs in a season by a UO freshman with 14, all coming in the last 26 games. Junior Lauaki strolls to home plate after his 3-run bomb secured the game... “Same approach as always,” Lauaki said. “Stick right side, don’t get too big and just hunt my pitch.” Bell worked around a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth and struck out the final two batters to secure Oregon’s spot in the regional final. Oregon’s pitchers combined for 19 strikeouts while allowing just two hits with two walks in UO’s ninth shutout win of the season. “We have one of the best staffs in the country,” Sanford said. “Every time someone comes in there’s no doubt they’re going to get it done. Oregon plays at 6:00 PM PST tomorrow night vs. the winner of....Beavis vs Butthead! (I never thought I'd ever get to write that!) (TV not yet known) What I loved about this game, is that Oregon can play small ball, by pitching well, bunting and great fielding, and win a tight game such as this after scoring 14 runs last night. The crowd was incredible! Loud and rowdy...THAT was a home field advantage!

Brayden Jaksa stays cool and waits out a walk, and then Junior (He likes being called that) Lauaki does what he does best; blast a 3-run homer as he did last night! 1-0 Ducks after six innings. Oregon strands two on base... Will Sanford got his 13th strikeout in his six innings, but he has 99 pitches. As hot as he is..I'm sure his night is done. What a performance!

1-0 Ducks after five innings. Burke-Lee Mabeus nailed a pitch deep against the CF wall for a double, and then Maddox Molony walks. The first run of the game happened when Jax Gimenez nailed a liner to CF to score Mabeus. (But Oregon stranded two on base) Will Sanford gave up a walk and a hit, but kept the Cougars scoreless with his 12th strikeout of the game.

0-0 after four innings. Oregon's Will Sanford is on fire, as he has TEN strikeouts after four innings, and a pitch count of only 64, thus he might go deep into the game...

0-0 after three innings. I am a little concerned about the Oregon offense, as the Cougar pitcher is playing well. The Ducks' Will Sanford plinked a batter, but left him stranded and has seven strikeouts after just three innings!

0-0 after two innings. Both teams again went down 1-2-3, although Oregon's Will Sanford has five strikeouts already out of the six outs thus far!

0-0 after one inning. Oregon is the designated visiting team today and bats first. Both teams went down 1-2-3, but boy Will Sanford looks good with three Ks to start!
