Butt-Hurt by the Huskies is precisely correct; the number of players that have developed and improved under the Lanning staff is too long a list in terms of contributing as a college player, or becoming an NFL player. Of course they point to the transfer outs as examples, without addressing the reality of recruiting en-mass to a position and the best will play, and the those who are No. 4 and No. 5 transfer out. The development happened with those who are playing... LaMichael James developed pretty well for the college game...

Lots of Edge Rushers....throwing mud on the wall to find out who turns out best, and the rest transfers out. A crucial position...

Very cool...our coaches have a history of either finding 3-Stars who turn into 4-Stars by December, or our coaches see raw-upside that develops in a few years. And...you always need loyal depth. What I really mean is...I was not ready for the Baseball season to end, and I feel bad for the players on the baseball team as well. I thought that our lack of quality reliever depth could hurt us at the CWS, but since our top pitchers had done so well the last three weeks--I thought they were peaking. They were, or more accurately....they did. (Before this last weekend) We had a pitching letdown similar to last years disaster in the Eugene Regional; the pitchers who got us there did not have good days when it mattered. But then--that is Baseball, isn't it? Between now and football season is a dead time for Oregon sports, but a great time to get other things done and get outside! I so love the combined seasons of going from seeing a ton of winning football, then a six week break, and then a ton of winning Baseball at Oregon. We have great years ahead in both sports and TONS of winning games to enjoy. In '23 and '24....we finished No. 12 in the nation, and we went into the Playoffs this year as the No. 11 National Seed. We have not got over the hump yet, but we are a pretty darn good program, thanks to Coach Waz. In the last four years...only nine teams have made the Super-Regionals in three of the last four years out of just over 300 D1 Baseball programs. Thus to do so puts Our Beloved Ducks in the TOP 3% of all college baseball programs. Be Proud! More of this coming!

David! Great article, and it does my heart good to see you continue your writing. Another way to look at it is---Dan Lanning has not lost in four years to a team he should beat who is ranked lower or unranked. Only teams that are GREAT can beat Our Beloved Ducks! I know someone who does NOT have that track record...

Ducks lose 6-5. Relief pitching....never mind.

6-5 Texas after eight innings. Oregon's Toby Twist let two on base, and Devin Bell made it bases loaded....and then gave up a double that scored two.

5-4 Ducks after five innings. Oregon's reliever, Tanner Bradley, was studly keeping the Longhorns in the barn. Ryan Cooney drills a pitch to the LF wall for a double, and a passed ball moves him to 3rd! Brayden Jaksa hits a groundout to deep INF between 2nd and 3rd to force the throw to first base and score Cooney to take the first lead this series!

4-4 after six innings. Tanner Bradley had another scoreless inning for Oregon, but on offense we stranded a base runner.

4-4 after five innings. Oregon's Tanner Bradley allowed two walks, but left them stranded! Angel Laya beats a dribbler to first base, and Ryan Cooney shows bunt, but then pulls it back for a slash to short-LF. Drew Smith sac-bunts a groundout to move both runners into scoring position. Brayden Jaksa walks to load the bases, and then Burke-Lee Mabeus hits a groundout to second base area to score Laya and tie the game. Ducks stranded two on base, though.

4-3 Texas after four innings. Oregon's Will Sanford got two outs, but loaded the bases. He was relieved by Tanner Bradley who pitched three straight balls, and then three straight strikes to leave the orange burnt-on-the-bases! THIS is good baseball...

4-3 Texas after three innings. Ducks' Will Sanford finally had a scoreless inning, thanks to Jax Gimenez making a tough catch that created some rib pain for tomorrow morning, I'm sure. Drew Smith zings one down the 3rd baseline, and into the corner to give him a double and Oregon a run from Cooney jetting from first base! Brayden Jaksa hits a liner to RF, to score Smith from second! Finally....hits with runners on base! We GOT A GAME AGAIN!

4-1 Texas after two innings. Oregon's starting pitchers have done the opposite of how I thought they would pitch...like the starters last year in our home regional. Drew Smith hit a deep one to RF, for a double and Junior Lauaki hit to RF as well to score him in. And then we stranded two base runners.... It is not over yet, but....

2-0 Texas after one inning. Oregon's Will Sanford gave up two solo homers... An unusual, but sweet double-play!

Rob Mullens told him that he was already being paid at Oregon the highest of any Softball coach in the US who had NOT won a National Championship.
