I have a Duck-Buddy who wondered what the majority of us Oregon fans were thinking on this issue--if the game goes well for the Ducks....do we think Dan Lanning will run the score up on Boise State to make a national statement of which can help us as the season progresses?

Or do we think he will not, and use this opportunity to play the reserves, and get them some playing time at game-speed?

I vote for him playing the reserves, because we MUST build depth. It is a long season, and we need the great young talent to get confidence in a game, and thus be ready to start later. Fox Crader gave himself, the coaches, and the fans great confidence with his play in the USC game last year, but he gave us glimpses in earlier games when he came in briefly.

Which do you choose? Both help the team one way or the other...

USCs 2nd team is horrible. It will be interesting to see how Oregons 2nd unit looks, how much drop off.

With all the hype around Oregon, sure hope they can start pulling the 1s early 3rd. Dan will pull them for sure.

Limit injury potential on starters when game is out of reach, and develop reserves and younger players. Build up the true freshmen that have shined in camp to get experience in games. Some of them sound like potential starters or major rotation players by later in the season. Need to keep starters fresher for a 16 game schudule

According to sources, OR has a blue chip roster rate of 83% or #4 in FBS.

Boise St has a blue chip rate of 1%, good for #84.

If our backups don’t dominate, even against their starters, we have a problem.

Lanning will run it up as much as he can in the first 2.5 quarters and then he'll let the reserves out. And I say he'll run it up not out of a vindictive desire to embarrass but to give his ones practice of playing full speed in a game. Half way through the third if the score is lopsided the ones are coming out entirely.

Lanning doesn't care about the spread. He'll get his reserves in to see what they can do.

I don’t think the Ducks will get a chance to get too deep into the roster. There are three things in life that are certain. Death, taxes and Boise State playing great against Oregon. I’ll wait to give my prediction later in the week, but I think it will be a one-score game.

Part of the reasoning is BSU’s consistency and it being the first game of the season. The other part is Oregon’s new coordinators. They’re not new to the program, but I think they’ll experience some growing pains. Especially if they try to run a vanilla game plan.

I think it's most likely we will see 2s and 3s as part of the baseline plan from the kickoff, just because that is what happened last year. Some position battles carry into the out of conference start of the season. RB comes to mind from last year.

I do think we will see players at decided positions that aren't part of the two deep be put in as soon as we have a comfortable enough lead.

Whether or not we have blowout is dependent on how go everyone plays, because I think pretty much everyone is going to play.

This isn’t Portland State…but it also might not be the same BSU we’ve seen the last couple decades. They have a completely retooled offensive line kicking the season off against an experienced NFL defensive front on the road, that alone should be a big yikes for them.

First game of the season. New offensive line. Let's not get too cocky before the first snap of the season. I say, just win the game. Beyond that, let the game circumstances dictate who gets playing time. Go Ducks!

I don't think Lanning can stop a run up unless he goes real conservative in play calling.

With a 16-game or 17-game season needed to win it all, player health has to be the guiding principle.

On December 6, 2026, the number of points scored against a G6 team in Week 1 is not going to factor into Oregon's ranking or PO seeding.

On the other hand, for its PO hopes, Boise coach Spencer Danielson knows that his team needs to keep the score close, and that Boise State will not play another game this season against the 2nd-ranked team in the nation on national television.

Last season, No. 1 seed Indiana did not play a P4 opponent OOC and was fortunate to win on the road against 4-loss Iowa and 6-loss Penn State. No penalty for two close wins against teams not in contention for the PO.

The folks on the PO Committee are influenced by wins and losses. Last season, if Texas had defeated 4-8 Florida by a single point, the Longhorns would have been in the PO field.

Win the darn game and get ready for a road game against another fired-up, rebuilt opponent in front of a rabid crowd.

Spot On! However, SC being thin in quality backups is the norm in today's college football world with NIL and unregulated free agency.

Saint Nick, for one, knew the time was right to jump ship.
