During the past two seasons as games begin I find myself wondering which DM will play? Will it be the precise passer who uses the entire field of play with confidence? Or is it the DM who looks uncomfortable and cannot locate open receivers, then misses some of the who are open or throws too late? It seems obvious which performance the game holds after two offensive possessions, and it holds generally true for the game. Moore either has it or he does not. If not, the issue is mental not athleticism or skill. He can run, but is not an aggressive threat when a play breaks down. I am relatively sure that Mehringer does not want to erode Moore’s confidence by substituting early for him, but if the Ducks are to advance to their potential he needs to do it. The Ducks have a deep QB room. We need to play the one who can carry and lead the team with excellence-even if it is one game at a time. I am convinced after two seasons that automatically playing Moore every game and every series will result in several losses this season. The coaches need to identify and play the “hot hand”. Or, they need to early see that Dante Moore is “off” his best play, and adjust accordingly. As a once-upon-a-time QB myself, I do not say this lightly with disregard to leadership, continuity, or the need for bolstering QB confidence. When he’s good he is very very good. When he’s not, he can lose the game and it shows early in the first series’.

I wondered about the D line as the hype machine red lined leading up to the season opener. The hype was really loud surrounding this D. What kept hanging me up was redzone, 3rd downs and havoc (tfl, sacks). I thought there was potential, maybe there still is. But I never fully bought in. When you look back at the early 20's UGA D, Miami last year and others, Oregons D doesn't look the same. Hopefully they get there. I am not quite sure that so many so called experts could be wrong about talent claims made regarding Oregons front 4.

Kentucky I believe went out and got 4 starting portal OL. A 5th year senior with 31 consecutive starts from Baylor, a 5th year senior who started the last two seasons at Ohio State, a forth year former 5 star who played in 36 games/25 starts at LSU and Tennessee, and a forth year former top 200 recruit from Alabama (who had not played a lot there yet). Three of its younger back-up OL are also portals from Tennessee, Northwestern, and UTEP. That had to be a decent sized portal investment. Compared to Oregon, who took some heat on portal OL last season, and only went out and got one budget friendly FCS guy. Last season, the one P4 conference portal OL at Oregon ended up a first team AP All-American, and the two G6 guys ended up really ok, especially against most of the schedule (it has been argued elsewhere perhaps expectations for a second team Sun Belt OT and an HM Mountain West OT were perhaps a bit unrealistic as 5th year seniors beyond what they had put on tape). If the 2026 OL doesn't turn itself around, seems like getting possibly spooked in the portal and miscalculating how many young OL were going to be ready to spend NIL bucks elsewhere very well may be an offseason topic. 🤷‍♂️

Our offensive line has actually played decent considering all the inexperienced and injuries suffered already. In my opinion, they will continue to do well enough to score a boatload of points each game, more than enough to win. We could/should have won the Cowboy game by a 31- 17 kind of score, but the defense gave up 39 points. The offense will score enough to win, and while the sacks given up make us uncomfortable...this is what happens with such inexperience on the left side of the O-Line. Regardless of the sacks, we will score more than enough to win with the skill players we have, and with the adequate O-Line play we will see. The REAL question is becoming...."Can the defense hold down opponents enough for Oregon to win?" What we thought was a strength coming into the season has been a big disappointment thus far. Matayo is highly underperforming the hype, and A'Mauri Washington has been completely MIA in three games....WTH? If the defense comes through in LA...we could win that game almost easily, as I believe our offense will score at least 30 for the win. Can our defense step up as we thought they would be in preseason? If this defensive line shuts down opponents as they have the talent to do--we could have a BLOCKBUSTER season yet. But WILL THEY? I am fantasizing a gradual wake-up from them; they will be better in LA, and bordering on awesome by the end of the season. Again--not a prediction, but my current Duck-Fantasy...is it realistic? It is Up to YOU, Guys...

He could also have run out of the back of the end zone before a Vandy player could have come near him. The mistake so clearly indicates that this player is not being paid for his mental prowess.

He is killing it at Cal. He currently leads the FBS with 5 interceptions so far this year.

DR has played in big games, he damn near led an upset of Ohio State his freshman year in Columbus. Had he not gotten hurt vs SC last year, Nebraska would have won and he may have stayed. His uncle was Nebraska’s OL coach, but was fired. Lots led to his leaving and coming to Eugene. DR is a gamer and Donte is a skittish QB. Donte has to fix it or he can kiss his NFL career good bye. He reminds me of Josh Rosen minus the attitude. Donte is QB one and deservedly so.

More on Lincoln Riley. It would not surprise me to see a game like November, 2012 when our DUCKS won a shoot out in Memorial Coliseum 62-51. Nice win for coach Stein. That being said, yes the Oregon offense was better under him because he's currently a better and more experienced play caller than Meringer. It should be interesting to see how much he improved over this week for the USC game.

Beavers QB Atkinson leads the FBS in passing. I just watched him for the first time with Montana State highlights and his passing and feel for the game is legit, he passes the eye test in a way Dante Moore does not. Similar to Sagapoleute at Cal, who I wish had stayed with us.

I don't really have a problem with this, the Spoiled Children have twice as many wins as we do and we've got a bad loss and a lackluster win. The only thing that matters is Saturday's result when we find out who the better teams really is.

Kentucky being unranked says all you need to know about what voters think of A&M. It was a great win for Coach Stein, and I’m happy for him. Hopefully, though, it isn’t cause for putting the cart before the horse.

It would be very interesting to see how well Dylan would perform for us under the pressure of a big game, a big atmosphere, and against much better competition. However, I’m in the same boat as everyone else who thinks Donte has rightfully earned his spot and deserves to be QB1... for now.
