4-0 Texas after three innings. Oregon stranded bases loaded... The Ducks' Cal Scolari plinked a batter, but kept the inning scoreless...due to a great pick-off.

4-0 Texas after two innings. Junior Lauaki hit a double, but got picked off between bases. Oregon's Cal Scolari gave up a solo HR, then a walk, and then with two steals and a sac-fly...another run scored.

2-0 Texas after one inning. Oregon got two walks but left them both stranded on-base. The Ducks' Cal Scolari gave up two walks and a deep double that scored two--not the start I was hoping for!

USC is playing their Super-Regional at No. 5 North Carolina, and stunned them yesterday with a 9-5 victory, and the chance to make the CWS today when they play on ESPN at 11:00 AM PST. Good start for the Big-10! The Ducks are just one of three teams out of the 16 in the Super-Regionals who has advanced to the Super-Regionals three times in the last four seasons. Oregon's starting pitchers, and first-line relief pitchers are hot right now, as the three starters only gave up ONE RUN TOTAL in last weekend's NCAA Baseball Regional Eugene Tournament. The entire pitching staff at Oregon only gave up an average of one run per game in that regional! Since the start of the USC series in the final weekend...they have been killing it, and they are truly peaking at the perfect time! The staff has combined for a total ERA of just 1.81 since then, and the starters have a 1.47 ERA in the last nine games. The starters have given up an average of ONE RUN per game during that nine game stretch, and that is something I never thought I'd keyboard. This is not during the early season stretch against easier non-conference opponents; this was against USC, the Big-10 tournament, and the Eugene Regional. Talk about great timing! I believe that Texas is a very good team, with great starting pitching...but I believe Cal Scolari and Will Sanford will continue their hot pitching and carry the Ducks to a 2-0 sweep at Texas this weekend. I have never felt this good about our starting pitching and first-line relievers since the peak George Horton years, but we have hitting now to go with it. That is my Oregon FANTASY, and I'm Sticking to It! Cal Scolari on the Hill tonight...

No, you nailed it. I would say it is worse than that....as the new football coach came up WAY short in recruiting, which was a surprise as he was considered a great recruiter. (Perhaps he was....at Alabama) Your summary of the situation had me shaking my head at the continued "Cluster-F" of administrative decisions that Oregon State has had since the 1970s. One step forward, and three steps back.... It makes me very grateful for what we have in Eugene.

The Athletic predicts Texas to win this Super-Regional, but had this to say about Our Beloved Ducks... "The 2026 Ducks are flying a bit under the radar. Dating back to a series win over USC, Oregon’s pitching staff has allowed a total of 20 runs in the last nine games. And Washington is the only opponent in that stretch that did not play in the NCAA Tournament." "Winning in Austin will be a tough task, but the Ducks’ pitching gives them a chance." So an average of only 2.22 runs given up per game over the last nine games? We can WIN with that kind of pitching! Burke-Lee Mabeus and Tanner Bradley!

Actually...I think Oregon State Baseball is in fine shape, as they can recruit pitchers at a level we are not at yet. They had the BEST ERA of any staff in the US, and they field the ball superbly. Their problem, as their fans point out, is that this year the batting isn't on par with the past. Frankly--that is easier to fix with coaching and the portal, than is attracting pitchers. I believe that the Ducks have a good nucleus of pitchers, but if we make to Omaha....I fear we will run out of quality pitchers quickly. We do not have the pitching depth yet, but Coach Waz has done an excellent job bringing in talent and coaching to make this year special. You can argue that last year's team was a little better batting, but it was our pitchers that let us down in last year's regional. We can WIN with our starting pitchers this year. I think both programs have a bright future.... But right now....we gotcha!

No surprise, but their distaste of Oregon is off the charts. Now some fans did give credit where due, but not many. Of course we do not claim to have the history OSU Baseball does, and they should be very proud of three 'Nattys that are very hard to achieve in the PNW. But the present is different; Oregon has beaten Beavis eight of the last nine Civil War Baseball Games... Beavis fans on a pay site comment below... Oregon pitchers Cal Scolari and Will Sanford will win this series in two games; they are hot right now and are peaking at the perfect time. They will hold the Longhorn batters in the feed-lot, while Oregon batters will pick away and score enough to win. I see 4-2 kind of scores in this... Our entire pitching staff only gave up ONE RUN average per game in the Eugene Regional. If they can keep that up--and with our superb batters.....

Good thing the Big-10 added the West Coast teams, as their only representation in the Baseball Super-Regionals is from Oregon and USC!

Steven A was thinking that the field needs to be reseeded, and there is a very good case for that. Consider all the national seeds that went down over the weekend: No. 1 UCLA lost to St. Mary's twice, who then lost the Regional to Cal Poly. (Who beat us last year in our regional) No. 2 Georgia Tech lost to Oklahoma, who won the Regional. No. 8 Florida lost to Troy, who won the Regional. No. 9 Southern Miss lost to Little Rock, who won the Regional. No. 10 Florida State lost to St. Johns, who won the Regional. No. 12 Texas A&M lost to USC, who won the Regional. No. 13 Nebraska lost to Ole Miss, who won the Regional. Good gosh, seven of the seeded hosts lost their Regional? Half of the top eight who were predicted to be in the CWS? I cannot recall seeing that before... If Oregon can win this weekend and get to the College World Series--it opens up more opportunity for Our Beloved Ducks! And I believe that our starting pitchers are playing their best of the year right now, thus Oregon can beat Texas in Austin! We CAN Do It!

In their three games this weekend winning 14-2, 4-0, and 4-1....Our Beloved Ducks only gave up three runs over the whole weekend? In a Regional Playoff, and not some weak non-conference chump? An average of only ONE RUN per game? Nobody saw this coming! It was an incredible performance by both the starters, and the relievers to keep the games in reach until Duck batters could get to the opposing relievers in the late innings. It was notable that Will Sanford went six and a third innings, not five, and Miles Gosztola went seven innings last night; it is so key because the truth is that our bullpen is not deep with reliable pitchers. Most of the Oregon team is made up of high school players recruited and developed at Oregon, but the exemption is at pitcher. Transfers Cal Scolari, Miles Gosztola, Luke Morgan and Devin Bell has been crucial to Oregon's success. Our weakness has been pitching over the recent years, and while we have a good nucleus, but are not a deep bullpen...yet. The growth and development of the pitchers by new pitching coach Matt Flores--happening so quickly, is astonishing. I wrote off Will Sanford after last year, hoping he would return as a reliever that would improve into something decent. Now he is one of the nation's best, as he and all the pitchers are hitting their best at precisely the right time. Cal Scolari The development of Miles Gosztola over the season...from shaky to stud last night has been stunning. The resurgence of Cal Scolari again has come at the perfect time, as I think he and Sanford could win the series in Austin this next weekend. Tanner Bradley was just another freshman last year who pitched on occasion; this year he has become an elite reliever and shouts becoming a mainstay starter next year. The stout Luke Morgan out of Grants Pass has progressed SO MUCH from being shelled his first time or two out on the hill, to where he is now a reliever we can turn to in high-leverage situations. Toby Twist saved the middle game the Regional, and he has recovered from a near two-year injury and progressed into a valuable reliever at key moments. Keep in mind that two relievers that won a ton of games for us last year...Ryan Featherston, and Ian Umlandt were lost for this season due to injury. I sure wish we had them to complete the depth, but the good news is that it gave development time for other pitchers to emerge. The result is that we lost games we shouldn't have earlier in the season as these young pitchers were learning, but now they are helping us win at the time it matters most. It hasn't been perfect, as we have a couple of pitchers take a step back this year, just as Sanford did last year. But they can turn it around for next year as others have done... Finally, we have a boatload of freshman pitchers that show a ton of promise and raw talent. The future looks bright! Preach it!

The No. 11 UO baseball team gave a third straight sellout crowd at PK Park everything it deserved on Sunday night, punching its ticket to the next round of the postseason with a 4-1 win over in-state rival Oregon State. “We were really blessed tonight,” head coach Mark Wasikowski said. “The blessings are countless. To be around these guys, this team is a very special team. The team that we played tonight is an outstanding program, as we all know, and we have respect for that, and we really embraced the opportunity to be able to take the hardest path." “I think they've embraced that to go up against a very, very historically strong program and do it here at PK Park, where the fans were just unbelievable.” More than 25,000 total fans flocked to PK Park across six games of the NCAA Regional, which featured three Pacific Northwest teams and former conference rivals in Oregon, Oregon State and Washington State. The weekend came to a crescendo on Sunday night, after OSU defeated the Cougars to set up the first-ever Ducks vs. Beavers postseason matchup in the regional final, and the Ducks emerged victorious. Miles Gosztola “It's a fantastic feeling to move on, regardless of who we play,” starting pitcher Miles Gosztola said. “I think Waz has done a fantastic job of coaching our mentality, not necessarily to play against the opponent, but to play against the game itself. It's a great feeling to beat the team down the road, along with Washington State, two phenomenal clubs. They had great years, and honestly, it's a great feeling to move on and represent Oregon.” A decisive three-run seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie secured Oregon’s third Super Regional bid in the last four years, and fourth in program history. The Ducks will move on to face No. 6 seed Texas in the NCAA Austin Super Regional next weekend, with dates and times for the three-game series still to be determined. “Being a part of this place is really special,” senior Drew Smith said. “It's deeper than just family … This has been the greatest four years of my life, and I don't plan on it ending anytime soon.” That seventh inning was a perfect demonstration of the impact of the home crowd, after the Ducks loaded the bases with one out and prompted OSU to turn to star closer Albert Roblez. The junior lefty got two quick outs after a leadoff single, but a walk and a base hit gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead. The Ducks picked their starter up in the top of the third, tying the game at one run apiece after Jack Brooks singled and came in to score on an RBI base knock to the opposite field by Drew Smith. “I was basically just doing my job, get on base, and I got teammates around me like Drew Smith, who hit me home,” Brooks said. “But I'm just doing my job to get on base. Amen...all through the Regional. So many young-gun pitchers in Eugene have progressed through the season to become important now. And....with all the abuse I enjoy heaping upon the Beavers--they were clearly a very good team. They just keep rolling out pitchers with great ERAs, and their hurling depth is amazing.
