The fact of the matter is that Our Beloved Ducks needed Boise State to play that well. It's all out in the open now, the things need to be worked on. Also the "national title talk" is now gone, and the jinx that comes with it. My hope is that they have a hard week of practice and are determined to make amends.

I don't bet ... and I wouldn't bet on the Ducks because Dan Lanning does not give a crap about the spread. He only cares about the win. I think here even if the Ducks did blow out the Broncos and the reserves did get some play, Boise State probably would have back-door covered anyways. Lanning would have seen he had the game under control and was giving his reserves valuable reps. Betting on a Lanning team to cover the spread is a risky proposition.

Boise was seeded 3rd in the 2024-25 PO. I think Boise State will finish in the Top-25, but not in the Top 10. As Charles noted, until OBD wins a Natty, the Ducks are low-flying targets. Oregon defeated a team ranked 28th in the preseason AP Poll that lost to Oregon and moved up to 26th in the latest spot, while OBD dropped four spots. Logical, right? Matt Hayes needs to write something negative; that's his forte. He could write about Rutgers ' faceplant, but who gives a whip about Rutgers? Texas destroyed an inept UTEP and moved up one spot in the AP. USC is 2-0 with wins over two teams better than UTEP and remains ranked 14th behind four 1-0 SEC teams that consumed cupcakes in Week 1. As I noted in another post, the AP Poll will not matter when the final PO committee ranking is revealed on 12/6/26, but the PO committee rankings are as subjective as are the Coaches and AP Polls. Another thing that led to the critique of Oregon's performance was the ridiculous -24.5 spread. I'm true to my school, but I knew my wallet would be hurt by not taking Boise and the points. Yes, OK State and its new 91 players lost at Tulane on Saturday, but a line of Oregon -22.5 playing in Boone Pickens Stadium also sets up Dan and the team for ridicule. But positive or negative, teams aren't dumped on or praised if they're not a team, like OBD, that is followed coast-to-coast. Lasso the Cowboys! Paste the Paddle People!

For the life of me, I don't know why they don't mix in more fake screen passes where one of the blockers ends up running a slant or go route behind the charging defense. This at least keeps them honest.

Polls are meaningless except for talking points for talking heads or conference "pimps", to justify their positions regarding said conferences. True, at the end of the season "one particular poll" DOES in fact have meaning and as we have seen in the playoff era, they don't really care or adhere to the other "ole timey" polls rankings. (The super secret, star chamberish processes that they do adhere to is still one of the universes greatest unsolved mysteries....but that's a topic for another thread!) If Boise St. Runs the table in the "new' PAC, then this win will only be viewed as a positive for OBD's SOS. But, don't be surprised when Boise St. Once again visits Autzen in November as the G-6 representative. (Those star chamber mofo's love to "setup" conflicts in the playoffs as this.) Anyway. Rather have a contested win like this one was, than a contested (controversial) win against vastly inferior opponent ala Michigan/W. Michigan. Which gave the talking heads more "meat" to talk about than OR/B.ST. BRING ON THE POKES!!! GO DUCKS!

We saw it almost immediately after Oregon’s 34-27 win over Boise State. There were national conversations moving the Ducks from one of the best teams in the country to something closer to a playoff question mark, as though four quarters in early September had suddenly revealed everything we needed to know about the next three months. Interesting in trying to track this "efficiency" approach, ATQ found some interesting offensive numbers in its regular season review (only non-garbage time snaps excluding all FCS games). • Oregon rarely takes shots on 2nd and short. In 29 counting plays, it rushed 15 times and threw 14 times. It completed only 3 passes of 10 or more yards on 2nd and short, yielding just 5.85 adjusted ypp. • Oregon was much more likely to throw for big plays on 3rd and short (probably already deciding to go on 4th if necessary). In 38 counting plays, it ran 24 times and threw 14 times. It completed 6 of those 14 passes for 10 or more yards, yielding 14.4 adjusted ypp. • While overall successful on 58% of offensive plays, screen passes were only successful 42% of the time with only a 2% explosive rate and only 4.88 adjusted ypp, compared to overall a 17.5% explosive rate and 7.3 adjusted ypp. Good news maybe is its overall use of all types of screens was down in 2025 from 2024 to 9.5% of offensive snaps (which was about average in FBS football). Bad news was screens in 2025 were even worse in success rate than 2024. This does seem to lead to some credence to the fan idea that while efficiency offense might call for these type plays in certain downs and distances, opponents seem to be sniffing them out and being prepared. Also, if you are watching the offense and you see them in 3rd and medium (3rd and 4 to 7 yards), its probably bad news. By far the offense's worse down and distance at only 28.6% success and only 5.18 adjusted ypp and 9.5% explosives. Makes the stakes of both throwing vertical on 2nd and 6th with an incompletion or running a stuffed bubble screen both very bad for sustaining drives from that down and distance.

The problem with Boise State is that they pretty consistently have a very good football team. We've played them 5 times in the last 18 years with an average point differential of 7: 2008 - UO loss. BSU ends season ranked #11 2009 - UO loss. BSU ends season ranked #4 2017 - UO loss (because it was the Taggert year). BSU ends season ranked #22 2024 - UO wins. BSU ends season ranked #8 2026 - UO wins. My prediction is that BSU ends the season ranked Top-10. Those Broncos were tackling machines this past Saturday. I expect BSU to run the table through their regular season schedule and end up being ranked in the Top-10 again by the end of the season. Our 7-point win will only look better and better as the season progresses.

WE dont have to worry about playing Boise St for some time. We have some beginning of the season cupcakes over the next few years.

Fine, but why did UGA, after defeating a nothing-burger team, move up to 2nd instead of LSU that blew out No. 26 Clemson? Why isn't Ole Miss in the Top 5 with a neutral-site win against a Top-25 opponent? Why is 2-0 USC ranked 14th, behind 10 A&M, 11 Oklahoma, and 12 Alabama, all 1-0 with a win against similar or lesser competition? Texas Tech struggled against an FCS opponent and is ranked 13th? Miami traveled across the country and blew out a Power 4 opponent. Miami remains ranked 7th? If OBD crushed Portland State on Saturday, it would have stayed ranked 2nd. It's the AP Poll, so no big deal. However, the PO Committee does the same stuff. It should not have taken until the final ranking to rank 2-loss Miami ahead of a 2-loss Notre Dame team it defeated, especially since ND played four games against G6 competition. There is too much difference between the strength of schedules and too few game data points to objectively determine the best teams. Why the PO should go to a 24-team field.

This win against Boise State will likely count as a win against a ranked opponent by season’s end. Looking at Oregon’s schedule, they have only three ranked opponents left on the schedule. Of course, that may change by season’s end. They will want those ranked wins at the end of the season when they’re being measured against other teams for playoff spots.
