The simple truth is that Brock Thomas has no business being out on the field in a game like that, he doesn't have the arm, he doesn't have the athleticism, it's a nice idea that they local kid can play, but it's obvious that if you have a O-line like ours, you can't start a guy who can barely throw the ball 20 yards. Raiola isn't perfect, but he could at least zip the ball where it needed to go and the defense at least had to entertain the idea that he could legitimately throw the ball down the field without it wobbling. We should be playing Smith Jr. over Thomas, you have to go with upside considering this is no longer a season where we are going to the playoff, maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I don't see how we go undefeated the rest of the year with this offensive line and this OC.

All of those OCs you mentioned are much better and had much better track records before becoming the OC than Mehringer. That's why he was such a horrible pick. If we're talking about a school like Minnesota, N.C State or another mid level Power 4 conference I could understand hiring Mehringer, but at Oregon you need to have a track record before you start calling plays. Dillingham and Stein we're young, but they at least had shown that they could run a successful attack, Drew had done none of that. I know you're emphasizing that Mehringer is a horrible hire, I'm just saying he's probably the worst OC hire Oregon has gone with ever when you think about how underprepared he is.

I just don't get why it took this long to make the change, it's inexcusable, Thomas has shown no ability to drive the ball, at least Raiola has proven he can win at this level, it's simply insane that Lanning waited this long simply because he likes Thomas as a former walk on. If I was defensive player I would be pissed. We can not throw these screen passes, it makes no sense whatsoever.

Fire Terry, it has to be done, can not develop talent, those that talk about the Joe Moore award ignore that it's built on transfers, he can't develop his own recruits.

Let's just focused on not being embarrassed first. Watching football today makes really hope we start to include the QB as a runner, whoever is the QB next year, we have to get more athletic at the position, need a guy like Nix who can make something happen when the O-line breaks down.

It's coaching, it comes down to coaching, Terry should be fired...today! He hasn't developed lineman at all, it's as simple as that. I don't buy any of this stuff about NIL being problem, it's not a problem at Ohio St., it's not a problem at Georgia, why should it be a problem here. We have a lot of coaches who just aren't very good at developing talent. I would say the QB, O-line, LBs, and both coordinators should be on the hot seat.

Would have no problem with that, I don't want anybody to think I'm a fan of Mehringer, I just don't think I have an idea of his talent since the O-line has been such a disaster, hard to call anything when the line isn't making any holes or holding up in pass protect.

I just don't think that he's the problem, I agree he hasn't been good, but Terry has had years to show he can develop his own lineman, and the result is the worst O-line I can ever remember for Oregon. It's atrocious, everything starts with them, they can't run block, they can't pass block, they get confused easily, they haven't shown any development at all. Last year we had Pregnon (transfer), Harkey (transfer), World (transfer), and while Harkey and World weren't outstanding, they at least were serviceable, Pregnon was a stud. Everyone other than maybe Pancho has been abysmal.

Lanning is too nice, has to pull Raiola, has to fire Terry.

It's not the coordinator (he's not been good though), it's the fact that Terry can't develop lineman, worst O-line in 20 years.

It's an exciting game, our backs are against the wall for basically the rest of the season, UCLA is a very good team, I think the amount of hype is just about right for what they have done, it isn't overblown like Mississippi St. was. I expect both teams to come out with a lot of fire, and I think Duck fans have been picked up by the game last week, I know for myself, I'm no longer worrying about a national title, more looking for effort, how clean we play, how do we improve, more the little things than the big picture.

Honestly this is the perfect time for a bye, allows us to give all the snaps to Raiola, prepare for a really inventive offense, and a general reset after the adversity of the first 4 weeks. Wish we had a bye later in the year though since it's going to be a long stretch of games to end the regular season.

Social Media is disgusting anyways, but it's always startling to see how many people on X would agree with Simms that it was somehow Moore's fault. I think Moore slid a little late compared to most QB slides, but the USC defender one hundred percent knew what he was doing, the forearm to the head says it all, as well as the reaction.

I feel better. Some of this is coming to terms with what this Oregon team is. I just don't think it's a team that will be a championship contender. It may be a team that improves through the season, it may end up winning 10+ games, but I don't see a team that will be a major contender for the natty. I could be totally wrong, maybe the O-line improves more than I think they will, Raiola might be "The" guy, the defense might lock it in, we obviously have talent. I just think for myself, I have lowered my expectations, and I'm more focusing on things like how much this team improves, can I see the coordinators improve (Mehringer was much better tonight!), is the effort there, can this team become more disciplined and control the things that they can control (penalties, effort, technique, etc.) I don't know if this is true for others, but I honestly think I've had more fun when I'm not worrying about things like championships, last two years I've been super critical about every little thing, tonight while I might have bellyached about some defensive things. I honestly had more fun watching tonight because I just wanted to win the game and play exciting football.

My thoughts are that Raiola is a very fun QB to watch. He can move around, he is aggressive in his decision making, and he has a bit more swagger to his game. I think he's going to be very very successful, we'll see a few INTs occasionally, but we'll also see more big plays, I hate the decision that Lanning might have if Moore is able to come back at some point. Mehringer called a better game today, some of that is simple improved play by the O-line in pass protect, but the timing of his screen game was better, he stuck to the run game just enough while not getting stubborn about it. O-line will be a work in progress for the entire season, I don't think they'll ever get there to a point where it looks like a usual Oregon O-line, but they may improve to a point where they at least become competent enough to give us a chance. I don't think the run game will ever get to the point where we run over teams. We may need to go to a 55 or 60 percent passing team, that's where our strength is. Defense is still a disappointment, some of it is scheme, some of it is communication, some is talent, and some is effort (this is becoming less of an issue though). We just can't seem to lock it in for other than a few plays. D-line isn't dominant, LBs are not 1st or 2nd day talents I think, and the DBs are good, but they aren't consistent all the time. Today it was as much Oregon as it was USC, Maiava is really really good, and their receivers are about the only thing that has been consistent over the last 10 or so years.
